Bob for President!
Thanks Bob from Bosch! Come back anytime :) People may moan about a whole video basically being an ad but personally I will always welcome good knowledge from experts regardless of the products they're experts in. These are the guys that hold all the little gems of knowledge and experience that you won't read in any instruction manual. A nice video Matt, no harm in more of the same. Especially Bob
Bob should be a weekly guest!
I bought one of these about a year ago, my wallet had to go for rehab, but my lungs have been grateful. They are really expensive, but how much cheaper than a Lung Transplant? Not worried about Matt selling out, he's lucky to have a sponsor which he's open about and the facts conveyed tell you what to ask about if looking at alternatives. There are few M class that are cheaper, but plenty that are much much more expensive, if you have the money or value your lungs go and get one.
Matt, if you do ever get a hair cut, remove the bag before hoovering up, the shaggy fleece will help protect that filter!
Finally someone is clearly explaining how this machine has to be setup. Thanks!
In before the sellout comments. This is a great piece of content in my opinion. I learned a lot about the engineering that went into this product, and an option for dust collection I haven't considered before. I have seen a lot of pros talking about the evolution of their tools through their careers lately. I appreciate getting a look into why you have chosen to partner with specific tool companies and how their systems have affected your work flow. I imagine places like Axeminster and Rycotewood spoil you a little bit while you're in school. Seeing you take off on your own and, making choices based on budget, value to your work flow, and the quality of tool's results has really helped me reframe the way I look at purchasing my own equipment. My work is a hobby, which doesn't change the level of work I want to achieve but has a major influence on how much I can spend. Thanks for putting out this kind of stuff!
Cheers Nic! Glad it is of use to you!
Best explanation of the Bosch GSM 35 m ever...thanx and regards from good old germany!😅
This was a fun one, Bob nailed it I must say
Thanks for the review Matt, with the assistance of Bobsch, have been considering getting one of these and now Im convinced its a invaluable piece of kit. Cheers
Thank you very much Bob and Matt for this interesting video and for so much informations. I come from Germany and I like all your videos on your side.
Nice shirt, great young blacksmith.
Great video Matt 👍 enjoyed your dovetail demo at the weekend nice to meet you!👊
So in this video it was mentioned that all their L class hoovers use m class filters. And when using a fleece hoover bag you don't need the afc function. So therefore an l class hoover would be sufficient as long as I use a fleece bag which I have always done. Am I right in what I'm thinking? Great video btw
Great video Matt. Truly enjoyed Mr. Law and his presentation. It has convinced me to take a deeper look at Bosch as my platform. I know that's not what you intended. Just a good side effect. Please keep the great content coming!
Got to love Bob's cheeky smile!
😂
I have a GAS50, over 15 years old now and still going strong - which has a switch position for cleaning the filters (good to know they thought of it back then!). I now have two Festool extractors, which are exceptional as they work up to the bag (replaceable or long life) being 100% full. So when you do your test of this unit can you check what the extraction\performance is like when the bag is near full. Good video, almost impartial from Bob, which is refreshing! Oh - I also use my GAS50 for liquid - exceptional - really is great, no need to remove the filters (which are still the original ones!!!). Thanks
Very nice video and lots of details about a extractor, cheers¡
Thanks Matt. After using a small domestic vacuum cleaner for years and sometimes thinking about getting a proper device for the job; your piece here has tipped me over the edge and I have just bought a proper extractor - from Axminster of course!!
Really useful watch and convinced me to buy one. I particularly loved the honesty and not the party line from Bob
Amazing video! We all love unboxing, but an unboxing with a brand trainer is way better! They are technical people with heaps of knowledge; knowledge not even written in manuals! Keep them coming Matt! Amazing!!! Cheers from Sydney, Australia
No bags needed if you use a cyclone set up. Works for me. I do enjoy your videos Matt and have learnt a lot from them. Thanks.
Very informative and honest video.
Matt, have you looked into using a cyclone dust collector in line with this to stop it filling up so quickly? I'd be interested in you doing an episode on them!
I've had this hoover for about 3 years, brilliant machine. I use the L box lox clipped on top for the hose accsessories.
Great video in all regards! Thank you!
Thx. Far best explanation and review of Bosch 35 M AFC available on web. All the deatails included. Going to buy it!
Thanks Matt great work!
Yes, the video was helpful. While I have a Festool Dust Extractor next year I may add another vac to my shop so this gave me some important information.
thank you for explaining that backshoot and the fleece bags :)
Thanks for the video Matt, glad to see healthier dust collection systems. Hope I can find something like that in the US.
Pretty sure the 18v M class is coming soon. Good foresight Bob
Oh look a smiley face, lovely ... throws it on the floor. :D
Nice videos Matt, keep up the good work!
Matt thank you I learned a lot.
Ordered mine today having seen your video!
I have this hoover, an have it connected to my boschtrack saw etc, i use the fleece bag an it isn't full or hose isn't blocked but always beeps when it turns on
Thank you very much, you persuaded me to buy one.
Willy from Belgium.
😷😷😷😷😷😷
Nice one Matt and thanks Bob 👍👍👍👍
Cheers Brian :)
Hi Matt, trying to decide on this vacuum or a Makita M class. You mention at t he end of the video you would have a user review, did you complete this as I'd be keen to watch it. I checked your list but could only see this video, with a few handy tips thrown in.
I like Bob, he seems to be a nice guy, you should definitely have him back. I’m heavily invested in Festool, but I do have plenty of non-Festool equipment too. So, if you and Bob want to convince me to buy that 12V Palm router, that’ll be an interesting vid😉
Funny, mine has a big sticker on the back that says
- don't sit on it
- 1lboxx max
- 15kg max
These look a great machine but I am concerned by the filter cleaning as it seems to be such a problem that it is turned off (noise and constant turning off the suction). If I am hoovering fine brick dust will it go through the fabric bag and block the filter?
what brand of shoes do you wear? Are they protective shoes with a steel nose?
Great to learn all about this for safety purposes!
I learnt so much too!
Good info, thanks
hey Matt,
i recently got the bosch get 75-150 sanding some planks off paint to build a desk and i've been using the household vac, which i think i might have cast unusable, i now want to get the best filter vac, would you know to which HEPA this M scale relates ? or which one is the safest ?
thanks
Matt, you should've asked Bob if Bosch make shop air cleaners. Ever since I hung one from the ceiling of my shop it has drastically cut down the amount of crap that gets up into the air after using a circular saw, router or sander. If the sunlight is right you get to watch the cloud of small particles get pulled and go away.
Great to learn.
i wonder if it’s still okay to use with silica dust,
wanna use it after the bathroom renovation but some bosch guy said the only H class will work.
Hi Matt Bosch should really take well care of you.. You made me buy the miter saw, router and now am trying to buy this shop vac unit.. But i have a question.. Can I easily and safely use it with my GCM12 GDL miter saw? And if so is the amount of CFM going to be decent for this setup?
THE BOSS FROM BOSCH IS VERY ENTERTAINING & VERY NICELY PUT YOU IN YOUR PLACE, MATT...LOL...AND W/THAT...BOB'S YOUR UNCLE!...;)
Hi Matt, just wondering if you (or any of your subscribers) could clarify something for me please. The maximum voltage for auto start is shown on your machine as 1800w. I have the Bosch 350-254 mitre saw which is 1800w, but do I need to have any headroom with the extractor I use? I’ve read the manual for this extractor and it says 2200w for the auto start but that it’ll vary by country. Just want to ensure this will indeed work with my mitre saw before spending on it. Any help would be appreciated from anyone. TIA.
Any comparison to similar Karcher cleaners?
Hola estimado...saludos desde Chile...una pregunta. Cuanto tiempo se puede usar sin parar la aspiradora tengo mucho que lijar...y no se cuanto tiempo puedo tenerla en funcionamiento sin que se queme?..!!!
Great fun - Bob's cool; I'm with all the others suggesting Bob comes back and does as regular piece; ok so it might end up a bit "mono-manufacturer-ish" (is that a word?) but it's worth it :D
do I have to press that button every each time when I don't want to use that AFC option?!
Is it good for carpets in home use ?
Not sure if you've shared this before, but I'm dying to know what speaker you have in your shop.
Thanks bob, I had my 55L unit just few days back and I was a bit reluctant to study on my on as there are lot of buttons and knobs on the unit. You gave a very good illustration and insight. But among do's and dont's, it is printed in the manual, not to sit on the unit.....!. Any way I wont ming following you. I would love if you give practical demonstration as well. Thanks
Aye bob did one of these demonstrations in my college joinery class
If I had my eyes closed I would of thought Michael Cain was workin for Bosch and out of the movie buisness
Matt, thanks for the great video. I guess a "ShopVac" is not just a shop vac, huh. Very informative.
Matt must be the most polite dude in the wood working world,,, every vacuum (err, extractor) seller that knocks on my door sees the shot gun,,, but hey, if a ''witty'', elderly guy had given me a free vacuum (+ a tour) maybe I'd change too ....
Nowhere do I find, from the video or Bosch North America, specs for noise levels. Tell Bob that, at least here in the USA, when I was selling both the Fein and Festool vacs, that that issue was more than once the determinative factor for choice of the Fein over Festool.
Now going to see how much !
If i am understanding this correctly. If you install a fleece bag to any dust extractor the dust would never reach the filter?! If this is correct what are the benefits of buying an M class over an L class.
Great video just bought one and was wondering why the hell it was backfiring lol😂
A very informative video. I always wondered what the difference between an L and M dust extractor was. A clear and simple explanation from Bob covered this nicely. If I decide to buy one of these I would also junk the plastic bag in favour of the fleece bags. Having said that, I reckon if you were sanding or working with filler or plasterboard it would get through the bag. The secondary M class filter should take care of most of this though.
The M class devices also have an alarm for when they're full or lose the ability to filter e.g. carcinogens. The point of an M is that everyone on the building site is protected from carcinogens and dangerous particles.
The L class devices are cheaper because they're less smart; they have no alarm. They will happily let you continue working around them/using them when full, even with dangerous particles entering your lungs.
I decided in the past that £240 was right for my hoover choice (Makita VC3011L which is L class - and cheaper these days) but this M class looks like such a more advanced design.
Since it will protect my lungs better too - I'm seriously considering upgrading...
Bob, Tell MR Bosh that a dust extractor that is built in to a sustainer to stack in the van would be good. MR Makita might want to take note as well. Festal have nailed it .
Please review on the gex 150 turbo sander.
One question... I have the same one but was wondering if you have to take the filter out when you suck water?
Nope, I'm pretty sure you leave it in there!
Very well done and informative. I think you and Bob struck a good balance between selling and informative. Dust collection is an issue we all need to give more consideration to.
I know there will be many who will take this as a sellout video, but I disagree. Bosch is obviously trying to use Matt's channel to garner customers, but they make fantastic products. I have a few of their tools, I'd love to be able to afford to fill my shop with them. I like that they're willing to invest their time to give us a breakdown of their dust collector. Proper dust collection is essential to our safety as woodworkers. I admit I have no proper dust collection system, merely a shop vac and a fan. I use hand tools whenever feasible for this reason. I'm shopping around and will eventually own a dust collection system, and by their grand intervention Bosch is on my shopping list.
Interesting indeed, any chance of it thinning out that mane of yours Matt, or is it your winter plumage😊? ( by the way I’m only jealous, not much left on top these days)
Not a chance! As you said, it's my winter coat.
Matt, are you still using this? Trying to decide between this and the Festool. Seems like you get a lot more capacity for the money with the Bosch.
Hey Matt, looks like you might know that Alex is moving to Montana. Just like you moved across town. BTW great vid!
I’ve had this GAS Extractor for 5 years and it’s been great, apart from one really really annoying feature. It beeps too much. It beeps, I’m assuming when there’s too much restriction to the suction, maybe to let you know something is stuck in the hose, or the filter needs washing/replacing. The problem is it beeps even when it’s a new filter and there’s no obstructions. It beeps when using a sander, it beeps when there is still good suction, and the suction/power settings have been changed. I want to know how I can remove the beep, because it’s not needed, I feel like smashing it up when it goes on & on. If it loses suction I will be able to tell, I don’t need a beep.
My friend has the festool equivalent which doesn’t beep. I think I will be changing to this soon.
if you have access to the PCB (circuit board), the beeper can be safely silenced with a hot glue gun. Thats what I did with my mocca-coffee-maker, works great
I noticed a few wincing at the price, this machine is quite a bit cheaper than the Festool M rated machines I own.
What price do we put on a healthy set of lungs?
When you see somebody dying from disease brought on by silica dust, or hardwood dust inhalation, these machines suddenly become very reasonably priced.
Bob came to my college to show off there track saw
Why not use the plastic bag for wet-vacuuming?
They just need to re-think that name
Gas m extractor, gasm extractor.
It's that good.
I couldn’t find this available for sale anywhere in Australia :(
Find your local Bosch distributor. I'm sure they could get their hands on one.
Same I am in Australia also. Bosch seems to be depriving aussie with all there gear. I own the gkt55 and the Gof router, however I cant ever complete a system as festool you can. Come on bosch get a move on. Bring the vacs to Australia. Design a cyclone like festool.
Good old Bob
Having got back off the floor after looking to see how much these cost, I can see why you thought it not unreasonable to let Bob have 20 minutes on your channel after Bosch gave you one for free 😂. Seriously though, I have no issue with the video as you were pretty transparent about it. Only quibble would be the title as it is not a true unboxjng as you have had one for a while and I guess that is one Bob brought with him. Unless of course that is a second free one and there is a very tasty giva away coming up 😂.
Now back to the multi function table build please Matt!
I was wondering how this unit goes connecting to the festool domino? Good video, keep it up 👍🏻
Straight onto it; even with Festools new connection system on all of their tools.
Matt Estlea awesome, thank you
Top banana. Now I just have to fill up the piggy bank a few times 🤓
we are pushing very hard for m class extractors.....because an m class filter costs 30 quid and we double the price of the extractor.....
00:46 NO BOB, HOLD IT TOGETHER
😂😂😂😂
Anyone used one of these with a Festool Domino? If so, any particular adapter?
I use it with a domino all the time. No adapter needed. Attaches straight onto it :)
@@MattEstlea Awesome. Welp, I guess I know what I'm buying myself this weekend then! ;) - is it weird to be this excited about a dust extractor?
@@MattEstlea Awesome. I just bought one today. Love it! :)
Auto power by Bluetooth when using cordless tools ?
Mentioned that on the Bosch/Bob forum about a year ago. It makes sense as Bosch are making their new tools "connected" (bluetooth), not to mention cordless. They said they'd pass the idea on to design HQ but there's been no sign of anything like it yet. Come on Bosch!!
Great video. The instructions provided don’t explain the different bags and the interaction with the filter very well
So I finally invested in my own GAS 35 M AFC and did not receive a Brush Nozzle 6:31
I am so disappointed after Bob’s hype!
They can encourage that by reducing the price of such articles xD
I use a karcher but at the same time dont produce nearly as much dust as a regular woodworker would.
A blue hose, is that a selling point ?
Hope you made Bob a cup of tea? 😉
I did offer 😚
First
I'll be honest i'm that idiot who left the red tab open and then wonders why router chips are going down my sleeves!
I just watched a 20 minute video about a vacuum I'll never buy
Nice machine, but I nearly passed out when I checked the price. At 70 years old I'll do without it.
Second
