Wow! it sounds so good!! I love the low tuning!
This snare is cute. Something special about this snare. Has a nice slap to it that would be great for modern jazz
I usually don’t like low tunings on my snares, hell I barely like medium tunings, but this thing sounds amazing with that low tuning.
It’s amazing how different it sounds to the same 5.5” model ..
this snare will be in my next wishlist for sure.
Starting off 2021 right!!! Cant wait to pick one of these up
I've been a long time Tama fan for years but when I see things like this I have to call it out. The SLP line is supposed to compete against Pearl Sensitone, Mapex Black Panther and other affordable import snare drums. The SLP Dynamic Bronze is a Chinese manufactured drum. That's not to say it is inferior. It probably is not. Tama does make some relatively good products out of their Chinese facility. However, all of the parts are mass produced, cost effective to manufacture and readily available. Tama's street price for this drum is $629.99. For comparison a 5x14 Gretsch USA model number G4160B goes for $649. The specs on the SLP and Gretsch are close. The shell gauges are almost the same, both have die cast hoops and 8 lugs etc. The only noticeable difference is the shell finish. The hardware on the Gretsch model also appears more robust compared to this particular SLP. I will say from experience that the strainer on this bronze SLP is about the same as on Tama's very basic $150 snare drums. It is not built to last. Before anyone wants to hate on me, I do realize that even USA drums have imported parts on them; but nevertheless, the street prices should not be this close. We're talking a difference of $20. This SLP bronze drum should be $300 or maybe $325 out the door. Tama, you should not be passing off lower end gear with higher price tags just to see if you can get away with it. You have to respect your customers and not take advantage of them. Stay within the market value.
Hey... slow down here. This is seamless brass shell. Literally none of aforementioned competition makes seamless brass shells anywhere close to that price... except Gretsch, which as you mentioned is... actually pricier for the same quality? So your point IS that Chinese made is inferior, but you don't wanna say it, is what I get from this. The price of seamless bronze is completely insane no matter what - the Pearl Phosphor bronze that is NOT seamless and is not available right now *was* was the price of this Tama. So clearly Gretsch is cutting corners AND lying on imported parts, while Tama is clear about the fact this is manufactured in China. And - so what?? Do the Chinese artisan be less skilled than the Japanese artisan? I mean, probably the Star drums are made by only the best of the best, but I can testify that Chinese made Tama drums are absolutely amazing for the price. I own two silverstar kits, still can't believe the small snare that came with one of them - and the strainer is nothing short of excellent. Rock solid - actually might be the best I have and I get like artwood snares so...
yeah. I really don't get your point : in the end, if Tama should reduce their price point, then so should Gretsch, especially since they're lying to customers. Tama is making higher end gear at a great price point, I really don't believe you have tried those if you say this. Gretsch should stop lying their customers. Full stop.
Matter of fact, you turned me off Gretsch very seriously. If I'm willing to pay extra to get it made more locally, it should NOT be made with imported parts whatsoever. Gretsch should stop saying it's a USA custom. As far as inflation goes, this is pretty much the smallest price you can get a seamless brass shells to the market anyway, so...
Man that slp snare sounds snappy and that crack....wow! I wish it would come in a 7x13.
Yes. Ill be all over that.
I think I can love this Drum!
Nice play-though at the end.
i love the high tuning
WOW great sound, mostly the high tuning : I love / need it !!!
This thing spanks. Already preordered mine from Sweetwater.
Ok cool, but we don't know how much sound processing they used on those mics. If you are demoing a snare with a full drum kit, I think the best way would be to use only room microphones to capture the overall sound of the drums together, and of course no sound processing whatsoever. Anyway, it's a really looking good snare and I'm sure it has a killing sound like everything else they do, I owned a superstar hyper drive birch before and today I own 2 starclassics (B\B and Maple), 2 club jams (club jam and club jam mini), a SLP duo snare and my new starclassic maple snare 14" x 6.5" it's about to arrive! I'm really happy with their products.
I thought I was a Tama fanatic
You got me beat by a mile
I'm a proud owner of a 7pc Starclassic Maple kit(Burgundy lacquer)& a 7pc Superstar Maple kit(Dark Blue Abolone wrap).
Ik how you feel when you said your waiting on your new Snare, I just got a SLP spotted gum snare for X-mas
Thank you for bringing this back😭
@@jsullivan2112 it’s the same material, that’s what I meant. Just a different size
@@jsullivan2112 😂😂Thats great you want the original all I’m saying is thank you tama for bringing back a snare in this material. This sounds phenomenal to me I will certainly grab one as soon as it comes out!
@@jsullivan2112 in fact if you want the original I have a friend selling one let me know if you’d like it.
@@jsullivan2112 yeah man! I can get you into contact with him if you want!
@@jsullivan2112 yeah he’s willing to go through reverb he’s selling it for $700
Who's the drummer? I really like his feel. Very quirky.
Nice sound, but we also need this in 6,5 "and 5,5" depth with the Tama MLS50B Linear-Drive Butt-End pls
5.5" Already exists, has for a long time. I have one and it sounds fantastic. The better Throw-off and Butt-Plate actually have the same screw spacing as the ones that come with this snare. So if you're very passionate about having those nicer features, you can buy them and screw them right on! I do agree though a 6.5" version would be awesome.
@@sammykerns4397 the 5.5 was sadly discontinued years ago, and I kick myself every day for not picking up one
@@danialdevostmusic
I bought the 5.5” last year and it’s the favourite of my 10 snares.
This new one sounds good too, but it’s more expensive..
I wonder why 🤔
I love mine
Sounds great!
Why did Tama get rid of the 14x5.5 version? Wish they'd bring it back.
Sounds great! Make a 14x6.5 version too!
I agree plus at the same price point.
Sure wish they would’ve just brought the original back and also made a 6.5 x 14 those would’ve sold a lot better than this one
That’s what I was hoping for. 14 X 6.5 with Starclassic lugs and 10 hole diecast hoops.
yesss!
I think this might be more expensive than the 5.5”, which I still prefer.
Similar price to the Ludwig Carl Palmer Venus brass snare..
Winning Horse!
Very very Nice. But why no
Tama MLS50B Linear-Drive Butt-End
as standard option?
Thats what I love on my old sms1455 starclassic maple snare. You don’t see many snares with a throw off mechanism and tunable butt end at the other side of the strainer wires. Tama could / would you explain why?
Tama doesn’t install the Linear Drive throwoff on the metal shelled SLP snares. Only the wood shelled SLP snares get it. It’s been like this since day #1 of the SLP line in 2012. No surprises at all. You can install your own since the hole spacing is the same.
Thanks for the answer. What could be the reason? Weaker construction / Shell bending? Or isn't there any explanation for it.
@@bhwhendriks6989Nothing to do with strength of the shells. It must be a cost issue. The standard throwoff setups costs approximately $40 less than the LS. All Starphonic metal shelled snares get the Linear Throwoff. All STAR metal shelled snares gas the LDS. The 40th Anniversary Bell Brass has it. I find it odd that Tama will put the Linear Drive on a $300 wood shelled SLP but not on a $550 metal shelled SLP. The older equivalent the MUS80 was on Starclassic and Warlord metal snares and is currently used on metal shelled Signatures if they were designed before 2012 when the Linear throwoff was introduced. Check out the catalogs on Tama.com They have an archive that goes back to the 70's.
@@Assimilator702 indeed I have the old MUS80A - B system
The Drums is the New Tama Performer with 22x18 Bass Drum with tom holder plate!?!?...Can You write the Drums Size? Thank you for This New Models...
10x7, 12x8, 14x12, 16x14, 22x16, 14 x 6.5 snare.
@@Assimilator702 Thank You!!!
Please don't stop selling this one
They brought it back again huh? Just an inch shorter not bad sounds real good
I was hoping for a 14 X 6.5 but this is nice. I wish it had 10 lugs though.
@@Assimilator702 If it came out as a 6.5"deep I would be more inclined to jump on it real quick though I personally think shallower snares like this one are fine with 8 lugs since there isn't much air moving between it
@@ZXMaverick 10 lugs puts a more even stretch on the head and gives more precise tuning and more focus. 8 lugs is fine on 13” but I prefer 10 lugs on a 14”. The only exceptions I would make are for some of the Star snares. I own the 14 x 5.5 SLP Bronze and it’s a sweet snare but the finish in this one is real nice. It’s $550 though. That’s kind of steep considering the previous model sold for $399.
@@Assimilator702 that's what I dont understand. why would you charge more for less drum?
@@jermss_ Many factors, raw material prices, labor, and off course profitability margins.
I want one of these but at 5.5" or 6.5" depths
@@jsullivan2112 I have this snare, and I think this is a better demo:

There is already a 5.5” Tama SLP in bronze...it’s a great snare, but is being discontinued for this one.
I don’t know why they just don’t keep both.
This or the Carl Palmer Ludwig VENUS….?
I think this might be better finished..
when will this be available??
I’m thinking March/April like all the new additions at the beginning of each year. The last few years drums that were estimated to be available in Feb weren’t available until April.
I rather have a piccolo or a soprano snare.
I wonder why it’s more expensive , than the previous 5.5” model.
