I love how H20 took advantage of filming almost all scenes outside, nice change of aesthetics compared to how all shows now are filmed on cheesy looking sets 24/7
It had the most authentic sets for indoors too, but it's good they didn't have the fake grass on a patio for outside scenes
I agree! Australian television is always way behind American television as far as budget but they are super creative and it's nice to watch a show that isn't aggressively over-produced like all American ones.

You were talking about not knowing what the 'fantasy' of this show was. There were two, based on the experience of myself and my sisters!
1) Most girls have a mermaid phase. We like the magic, the idea of breathing underwater, having cool powers, etc. Mermaids are just neat!
2) There was a sense of sisterhood in the show between the friends, and I think everyone wants that kind of friendship in their life. A group that knows you flaws and all, are still your friends anyway, and always has your back.

I absolutely love this show. It’s my comfort show. I did not watch it as a child, embarrassingly enough, I found it at the ripe age of 23, (last October) and as a mermaid girl I became obsessed.
I grew up LOVING Barbie Mermaidia, the little mermaid, and movies like Aqua Marine.
So this movie just like… made me feel like I was a kid again, which is a hard to reach and wonderful feeling.
It’s cute, quirky, and light hearted. Also funny!

they really did crappy writing on s3 zane. i read somewhere that burgess abernathy was or at least seemed disappointed with what they did with zane because zane did all this character growth for him to revert back basically into what he'd been before meeting/falling in love with rikki.
like...he should have had a side quest or something, secretly protecting the girls from the plotting of his father bc (as it seems many people forget) his dad knows their secret and it would have really made for a good finishing arc if the reason zane seemed not care with the internal mermaid drama of the comet and etc (i forget a lot about s3) because we got to see him passionately defending and fighting for the girls' safety. like there were lots of threats far closer to home than that comet that they never would have seen because they were trying to save the world.
someone said it would have made for a good season to have this happen where we see more development of harrison and zane and how zane won't be like his father and his dad, stuck in his business ways, won't change except maybe for the idea that if he doesn't, zane will cut ties with him completely. or not. like harrison still tries to do some business thing with the island and simultaneously thrust the girls into the spotlight and zane figures out another way to save them.
which would give us a reason not to be pissed at his character reverting bc he would be acting under stress idk tho

The spin off/sequel had better looking tails to me. Im not sure what the inspiration was, but the H20 tails looked like those snakes you find in the desert. Very dry and textured. In the Mako Mermaids, they added some red stripes in there. And somehow it made it look more like tropical fish.

I seriously have to say that the dubbing works miracles, the bad acting is not so noticeable, or at least it hides it well. I think that almost always the dubbing in Spanish is good at hiding that, or at least in television series.
I remember watching her on TV when she was 6 and now my 3-5 year old nieces discover this show so the whole family is watching it, and my hatred for Charlotte has returned.
I don't think it's the acting if the dub makes it sound better, i think it's the script the actors were given to work with. I also think they're great actors. You can have really talented actors but if the script makes them say stupid lines... then it's not the actor's fault, it's the writers'. Emma and Cleo were great in The Vampire Diaries.

The impact this show had on my generation when we were kids, omg. We would play with my friends pretending to turn/be mermaids for years, seriously. To this day my peers know the show when someone mentions it. I’m 20 but I still sometime go “Hey, you want me to turn to a mermaid in the middle of [whatever]?!” when someone spills some water on me and most of the YAs get the reference because it was so popular and iconic here (in Slovakia).

I loved this show so much! I think it was also popular because sit wasn't typical in the sense that it wasn't just about the romance even though there was a lot of it. Then she gets super nervous about being a mermaid cuz she hates the water, but Emma and Ricky show her that there’s nothing to fear because she can breathe underwater so then she learns to swim

H2O just add water has a sequel series called Mako Mermaids. It’s okay but not as good as the original series which in fact got an animated version of it called H2O Mermaid adventure but still didn’t do better than the original but got higher rating than mako mermaids.

@@andsprite ok so basically, the mean girl of season 1, Miriam, sneaks into the cOoL hAngOuT pLaCe, the juicenet, and she sneaks into the freezer, and since Emma works there she freezes Miriam by accident, and they have to figure out how to revive her until Emma's boss comes back for work, so yea its pretty complicated , but ARMYYY💜💜💜💜💜💜, btw the whole episode is on the h2o yt channel, so you can just watch it on there

I've always thought Charlotte was the absolute most horrible and unlikeable character of any show ever. Like it was a deep, deep hatred.
Actually, it's not true. She was NOT horrible at all.
At first, she was really nice and friendly. Yes, she liked Lewis obviously, but she even ASKED Cleo if they really did break up. Cleo was all jealous and mean and childish to her from the start and did a lot of stupid horrible shit to her.
Yes, Charlotte got interested in the whole mermaid thing - but hey, she's allowed to be. She tried to fit in, but girls, again, were really mean to her and didn't want her around.
Then it felt really forced like writers decided - oh, let's make Charlotte this horrible villain, and Cleo is a poor victim of her abuse!
Trust me, I hated her too when I was a kid. Then, lately I rewatched the show and felt much more disgusted by the mermaids' behaviour than her.
Oh yeah, also Lewis was horrible, like - spitting a coffee on her face and clothes when surrounded by people (he tried to know if she was a mermaid now, but that was the rudest thing to even do to your GF), or when she threw him a party like she wanted, he couldn't tell her that he really didn't like it, and in the end kinda humiliated her.
It's all in the writing, you see.
@@smart.but.stupid Ok actually the girls tried to include Charlotte and be nice to her, mainly after she turned into a mermaid. Charlotte was the one who decided to act all higher up and look down on the girls which led to her being the mean one, and the girls rightfully stopped being nice to her after that change because it rude and selfish. Charlotte literally said that she doesn't need their help bcuz she's better than them....
@@dancingsun2 actually, if you look up the episode, they were NOT nice to her when she became the mermaid. They always disliked her and she felt it. Then there was that moment where they bonded as a volleyball team, but Charlotte said she had now all the three powers and girls were really bitter about it.
Yes, she became more proud of herself, but it really was out of nowhere, as if the writers just decided that was a good idea. She was a decent person before, and the mermaids were basically hating on her and behind her back.
Also, she was the one apologizing in the end. Again.
