I love watching Kirby pack... I went to Cuba in 2007 with one backpack, tshirts and swim trunks. Drove around the island and every evening I'd smoke whatever cigar the locals had for me with an ice cold Cristal... enjoy your trip brother!

I've been to Cuba 5 or 6 times, mostly in Havana. Amazing city but definitely expect culture shock... particularly recently with the poverty. Enjoy and can't wait to see the footage and hear your comments.

So glad to see you again after the pandemic shenanigans. what do you lock your luggage with that is getting checked in. I love those spectators. I have a pair very similar that I bought in the mid 1980's at Salvatore Ferragamo's New York store before they moved to Fifth Avenue. I used to wear them in the summer with a very light ecru to cream suit made by an Italian brand that does not even exist anymore 100% linen called Stefanel. Your white linen suit reminded me of my wardrobe. Such great memories. Thanks for sharing and I hope that your vacation in Cuba went well with limited air condition and that heat and a third world country.

What a pleasure it is to take a pause from the speed and pressure of 21st century society to enjoy Kirby enthusing over custom coat hangers and a particular cut of collar.
I find myself smiling and nodding approval as he debates the intricacies of a certain stitch type or the texture of a quality neck tie.
I've even upped my game of late, purchasing better shoes and nicer shirts more often. So, thanks Mr.Allison, keep up the splendid quality of this channel.

Every suitcase now has an Apple AirTag and, ironically, they did lose something like three of the five pieces of luggage I checked! Luckily, they arrived to Cuba safely later that same day. 😅

I always wear chelseas or loafers when traveling, just for being able to take them off quickly at airport security.
It'll be quite a trip, particularly to Pinar del Rio. I'd also recommend side trips to the Hemingway estate just outside of Havana, Cojimar, site of Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea and Varadero. But, as said below, do prepare for some culture shock between tremendous history and it's sad neglect and decay.

Gentlemen, I know it's too difficult 😣, the collection of garments you are taking is also very thoughtful but i think you are too causes, I am talking about, when you are preparing for the worst case scenario. It's no fun if you are always in your comfort zone. I think it's necessary to make little mistake here and there, making you step outside of your pre made plans, to enjoy a new place and it's culture to the fullest.....................

You can never take enough socks and jocks when you travel. "I absolutely love this it's got stains all over it." So cool that your not so pretentious that you"ll still wear a favourite piece even if it's not in pristine condition. Ever tried saturating in pre-wash laundry spray and soaking in Napisan (a heavy duty stain removing product we have in Australia, I'm sure you have similar products in America).

I encourage you to please tip and tip well. It’s been a very difficult 5 years in Cuba and many people, even in Havana are enduring hardship. Do stay vigilant and safe. There has been an increase in thefts due to these hardships. Also recommended taking 2 phones, a large power bank, flashlight, and always keeping bottled water. Power outages are frequent.

I always enjoy tips on packing, and to see what you’ll be wearing where. Looking forward to the Cuba series, as it’s also on my bucket list. Question: do you not use a Dopp kit for toiletries? I always use one for my razors, deodorant, soap, toothbrush etc. It keeps everything together, and then I can keep together in the hotel room the things I don’t unpack in to the bathroom. I’m just curious if there’s a reason you prefer the ziploc bags, especially in checked luggage.

I haven’t used a Dopp kit since TSA has required toiletries to be put into tiny plastic bags, unfortunately.
@@kirbyallison yeah, I get that for carryon when you have liquids that must come out for security. But my Dopp kit is indispensable for me, especially for international travel where I pretty much always check a bag. In addition to shaving and toothbrush/paste etc, I always carry a small sewing kit (with an assortment of buttons!)and some first aid supplies…bandaids, aspirin, neosporin, alka seltzer, etc. Enjoy your trip. Again, looking forward to seeing more.

I took opera pumps for the gala dinner (didn't have them when packing in the office), but otherwise wore brown shoes.
Kirby fantastic video always enjoy watching but, why don't you use a toiletry bag for you shaving products and cologne or even your shoe shinning products? I'm just so nervous that something will break and it will ruin my suitcase or clothing.
I honestly need to get one. The problem is that when traveling domestically, TSA requires that all toiletries be in a plastic bag.
Imagine if the airline loses that piece of luggage with all of those items inside, I'm sweating just thinking about it

Interesting video. No formal shoes for the dinner suit? No bow tie cufflinks and studs? I find fragrance bottles tend to leak in checked bags due to the pressure change.
I took Cufflinks and studs for the gala dinner. And the dark brown pigskins are relatively formal.

Packing with hangers is a form of insanity. Also, I am jealous of how much room a large suitcase provides someone whose shoemaker doesn't have to use two sheets to trace his foot.

I can feel the pain already of wearing suit and tie when visiting a cigar factory in Cuba in summer. The guayabera and safari shirt might save you.

Rimowa - solid choice, but a bit surprised you haven't opted for Globe Trotter bespoke.
Although Globe Trotter makes beautiful luggage, it really isn't all that practical for traveling. As far as easy of travel is concerned and durability, I haven't found anything better than Rimowa. It's a complete pleasure to travel with. Makes travel just that much easier.

I’ve got to ask - I’ve now tried maybe half a dozen cigars… and generally, they all taste the same to me. Sure some are stronger than others, and I understand they’re supposed to have different flavor profiles, but more or less, all taste like smoke to me? Am I missing something? I know I’m not smoking the best stuff out there (why would I until I know it could be good…) but surely something in the 8$-$20 range has to be decent for a casual smoker… yet I remain frankly unimpressed. Am I missing something? Everything I find tells me this could be a decent hobby, but… I feel like I’m missing something. Any advice?

Thanks for this travel advice, Kirby. However it is not the luggage that is my present concern. What to drink with which cigar, now bothers me a little. Surely we all enjoy a rich heavy port tipple while savouring a similarly rich deeply flavoured cigar. My thoughts turn to when it is these lighter cigars which we are to enjoy. Perhaps a rough scotch, a boisterous bourbon or even a mouthwash beer, a full flavoured lager? Cheers and Bon Voyage and hope that you enjoy your trip. Do post a photograph or two for us to envy your good fortune. ( Remember to declare that box of cigars to customs or they will tax or confiscate.)

I didn’t take an umbrella. It didn’t rain during this trip. But when I was in Cuba last month, it pored the first few days.
