      This is one of those routines that looks easy but is actually very hard. Her moves are not as "flashy" and crowd-pleasing as, say, Biles' double pike or Liukin's arabesque, but that turn series is insanely difficult. Same with her dismount (gainer with a full twist) it doesn't look like much to the casual observer, but it's actually an E level skill. it's freaking HARD. It's worth noting that the D score here was actually 6.6, only marginally behind Biles.

    Her balance beam work reminds me of "romantic" era of gymnastics, mostly 60s with some touch of 70s. She doesnt have many acrobatic skills, even her dismount was nothing special, but she looks really elegant and sophisticated compared to Biles which had many acrobatic skills with a lot of bubbles and didnt look elegant on beam. I always like girls like Sanne and that type of gymnastic
    She is a new Caslavska or Bosakova on the beam.

    • @chooseyourpoison5105
      @chooseyourpoison5105 Před rokem +24

      Just pointing out, that was a Gainer dismount with a full twist, an E level skill, it was NOT "nothing special." Her mount was a round off 3/4 twisting back handspring onto beam, also an E skill. Wevers' routines may not have the spectacular "wow" crowd-pleasing factor of Biles', but her skills, especially her turns, are fiendishly difficult. It's worth noting that this routine had a difficulty value of 6.6, only just below that of Biles.

    • @keller109
      @keller109 Před rokem +9

      This. I really dislike Simone’s gymnastics. It lacks the grace, elegance and the precision required to perform a routine like this. Most of the “hard” skills she competes can be done by most elite gymnasts on the tramp. It’s all just about having enough power to be able to get enough height on the actual floor. … A routine like this? Most of them wouldn’t even be able to do it even on the low beam. And certainly not with flailing arms and pointed toes.

      @@chooseyourpoison5105I love her dismount-It’s so different from what you see other gymnasts compete. She’s one of my fave beam artists from the open-scoring era. Ponor is probably my favorite beam artist from the 2000s. I do miss the ‘80s & ‘90s when more gymnasts relied heavily on on strength & flexibility elements.

    • @grahamstrouse1165
      @grahamstrouse1165 Před rokem +3

      @@keller109Simone’s an absolutely power-house and an amazing tumbler-She won loads of medals by playing to her strengths & racking up bonus points doing big skills. That’s what the current system rewards. I would like to see some balance brought back to the sport, though. It annoys me that gymnasts today can sometimes podium on event finals with major errors and even occasionally falls because they’ve loaded up so much on difficulty. It was clear by the ‘90s & early ‘00s that the scoring system needed to be fixed but I feel like they overcorrected.

      She had a full twisting back handspring onto the beam, another one in combination with a leap, a full L turn-reverse turn-double turn- split leap FOUR element sequence, two aerial cartwheels in succession (one is hard enough let alone two combined which means changing direction TWICE), a TRIPLE turn which has only successfully been done by ONE other gymnast, and you think it was easy?! Or tell the other gymnasts to do a Triple pirouette, a double turn, reverse turn and another double. NONE of them I bet can do Sanne’s series. That’s the whole point of difficulty, maintaining balance, and awarding “those” points.

      @seanjenkins331 Před 3 lety +1

      @Emi Bellew How many gymnasts have torn an ACL doing a twist? If the scoring isn't subjective then why is the Yurchenko double pike listed at a lower start value than it was before Simone performed it in live competition? Rebecca Andrandae's vault, impressive tho has been performed before, had the same score as Simone's even tho a woman had never successfully performed that skill. The establishment has been against her since day 1

    • @seanjenkins331
      @seanjenkins331 Před 3 lety

      @Emi Bellew Not true. The highest point valued skill on the beam is still that triple back summersault Shawn Johnson does. So.... I'm not challenging your knowledge about gymnastics. I'm simply saying we all know Simone does the hardest stuff and challenges herself more than anyone else and when she messes up it's the end of the world.

      @@JustMe-px9qythe thing that is tough with that particular dismount is you have to get enough power to push off of only one foot, get far enough away from the beam and execute a full turn before landing. It requires intense precision because you can easily clip the beam with your head or shoulders in the process. It definitely does look simpler… but actually requires great timing and coordination.
