No.... the US politicians are killing the car market
Yes China can make cheaper parts, but they don't last or perform well like OEM. I GUESS IT DOES MEAN " PAY ME NOW, OR PAY ME LATER "!
Hey Scotty. I'm a machinist that makes bearings. After the heat treat process, they normally have a minimum tolerance of RH 60 (give or take, depends on the bearing). They usually fall in between 62 - 63. I won't go into what the RH scale means but they are *extremely* hard steel and certainly not the 'softest portion of the engine' as you stated at around 4:00.
Hey Scotty, how about removing the 2 trash bags worth of leaves below the windshield. It's very distracting 😂😂😂
Went to show my boyfriend your channel because he’s been a mechanic for 12 years and I told him you can do anything you want give advice on CZcams but social media isn’t his thing. I said “ you have to watch this guy Scotty, he has 2 million followers!” Well I haven’t watched in a couple years I’m so excited to you are almost at 7mil!!! Keep it up my friend you are awesomeee! And authenticity yourself!!! Reminds me of my dad who I miss dearly! Good advice to all the ladies, date a mechanic 😂❤❤
Or the V6`s that DO NOT have VCM, these engines are bullet proof & tons of power (very fun engines), but the VCM system is crap...its not Honda`s fault, it the environmentalists who want cleaner air.
you are a sweetheart ❤️☮️👊🏽💯
My grandmother had 1972 orange civic 4 speed immaculate still had plastic on inside door trim panels always garaged gave to her grandson who destroyed it i was gutted 😢
I bought my Earth Dreams 1.5 liter CRV in 2017. Yes, I smell the gasoline in the oil, and while it concerned me when the car was new, I no longer have concerns as at 90,000 miles I use no oil between changes and continually get over 37 mpg. I use only Honda oil filters and full synthetic Castrol 0w-20. I did install a oil catch can in the vacuum line between the PCV valve and the intake manifold, but I don't catch any oil, mostly just a small amount of gas in the winter. During summer, it gets hot enough apparently to boil off the small amount of gas in the catch can. I have had no problems whatsoever with the vehicle in the past 7 years and have no interest in getting rid of it.
My 1.5turbo engine in my 2022 Honda Accord Sport Special Edition gets excellent gas mileage and it has plenty of power when I need it, especially on the highway. I bought it new two years ago (brand new btw) and so far, so good with this car and engine. Hopefully I can keep driving it for the next 10+ years. I love it. 😍👍
Honda should go back to what made them great, small naturally aspirated engines with manual transmission
yes!! they were great on gas.i would say they were probably lighter too
Not many people would buy it.
Sure. Car people wish that is what they made but anyone who isn’t a car person would hate it. K
Motorcycles.
They won’t sell
I agree
Time to start recommending Mazdas with real automatic transmissions and 2.5 non-turbo 4-cyl engines.
I got a 24 CX-30 a couple months ago so far so good at 2k 🤙 my only concern was the cylinder deactivation tbh but I haven't heard anything bad about the n/a motors and I'm averaging 34.1 mpg can't complain about that
@@Timmysaysskate Are there trim levels that don't have the cylinder deactivation? 🤔
@@seanthompson8071 I'm pretty sure the "Skyactiv" technology is used on all there cars even the Miata
@@Timmysaysskate 😒
@@seanthompson8071Yes, I have a 2024 CX-5 turbo. No cylinder deactivation on the turbo models. Also no auto stop/start on it either.
Have a 2018 accord 1.5t with 100k miles and have had no issues with the car what so ever.
Thanks for the good show and info
You’re right Scotty, here in New Zealand we drive on the opposite side of the road from you, I’ve had to replace struts on the rough side, our left, I like your show, watch it all the time, cheers.
My 1.5L 2016 civic has 220 km on it, here in Canada, car has not skipped a beat. If anything, the AC keeps crapping out, keeps getting fixed under warranty. But the engine? Regular oil changes, regular filter changes and the car has been good to me. I don't doubt Scotty, but mine has been an excellent car..
My AC went out do you know what the problem was on yours ?
I had Honda CRV 2021 with Earth Dream Turbo engine has problem what Scott said. Oil dilation and even we could smell gasoline inside cabin. The engine oil filled with gasoline. The level was filled up and even over filled. I sold it immediately
My wife has a 2010 CRV and she's now on her third replacement for the AC compressor. I don't know who's making them but put 3 years for a replacement of your AC and it's not even all that hot in British Columbia
Some people think they need a new A/c compressor because it stops getting cold while cars going uphill or accelerating! The truth is that it’s NORMAL!!!
A/C pulls so much power from the engine that if your really hard foot on the gas the ac will blow warm air cuz it gets shut off to give the engine more power!! But once you level out the foot off the gas pedal the a/c will come blowing cold again!
The engine you have isn’t the earthdream naturally aspirated
Scotty I caught a guy staring j @ my car.( 2018 Civic SI) He had 1 also. His was the same car from college.( 22 years old) He said he has made hardly no repairs.Oil changes n normal maintenance. He said he ordered a brand new Civic SI! We parted ways n what a great feeling to know they are still driving after 22 years!( TRUE STORY)😊❤❤❤
The 1 thing I love about the Toyota Prius CVT trans is the more POWER button! And yes it most def makes a huge difference from stop to go quickly..with that more power on when u accelerate from dead stop. And the CVT seems more quiet also!
I still prefer the manual transmission. But Honda did away with those on the accord in 2019 and the base model civic in 2022..
Now the racing/sporty version of the civic is only one that has manual by request.
Other wise it comes with trip tonic paddle steering wheel shifter automatic…
I almost bought a Honda Accord, but when I drove it the transmission was clunky,I know everyone knocks Nissans, but I bought a Nissan Altima, let it go after 210k, NO problems, except the rear defroster stopped working 😅
I gave up on the junk hondas bought a nissan runs like a top
Not bad for a Renault Laguna in Nissan dress.
Which year of Altima did you get?
My old Toyota Forunner V6 3litre had a timing belt and non-interference engine, ran like a clock, changed the first timing belt at around 200k still running that belt at 400k, timing belts are ok. Everyone raves about timing chains being better but theres a lot of Chinesium chains that dont last and break, then youve got big trouble.
Facts my civic 200 k on belt crv 2.4 100k timing chain broke
i have honda with earth technology don't have problem at all with 140k on it
Same here. The problem was with turbos I have heard. My 2017 Fit , no turbo, has been flawless.
@@lot2196 My son bought his FIT with 120K miles for only $8K and he loves it! LOL Still runs like a top 👍
@@lot2196 Great car
The ATV I owned had a CVT, tons of belt heat made me hot. It always roared, never again, hated it.
My old 94 Plymouth Voyagur had tons of space due to it being a rectangle with squared off rear end and open area under the two rear bench seats. New vans dont have that under seat space due to the way the seats are made. I used to haul several 6x6 8 ft on top of the two rear bench seats. Very versatile vehicle.
So I worked at a Honda dealership and as a detailer we see all sorts of records that come with trade ins and on a new 2022 Honda 1.5 they had already replaced a headgasket at 15k miles which apparently was common as most trade in’s carried the same paperwork and receipts 😂
Well we just took a chance on a new Rogue. I’m pleasantly surprised at the power from this 3 cylinder engine and we got 36mpg between highway and city on the first tank!
We got rid of our 18 Sierra because I know from you that issues are a 100% going to happen.
And after watching your video on driving the Rogue, the dealer offered a lifetime power train warranty!
I still have my 04 Grand Marquis, 78 Thunderbird and 76 Mark IV to drive
Change the oil every 3k miles. Supposedly, the dilution problem was mainly with the 1.5 turbo engines.
There's always TOO MUCH slippage in a CVT transmission. Don't buy a car with one, or any car with a twin turbo engine. I guess now, avoid the Earth Dream engine in Hondas. Never buy a car with an engine cylinder deactivation system, or one with the stop engine feature that activates when you come to a stop. All bad features.
@@user-pq9ji7kt4lcvt’s were made because automatics had a bad rep already since manuals were dominating the market.. so they had to make something absolutely worse to make us appreciate standard automatics again 😂 bro it’s simple
Never buy ANY car with a turbocharged engine period.
@@sct913even a quad turbo bugatti?
@@sct913 yeah build your own turbo system
@@tropicalsnow OK, there ARE exceptions.
I never really liked CV transmissions in mini-bikes and go-karts, I definitely don't want one in my car.
Yeah I agree - my Accord has the real deal 5 speed automatic 😊
Bought an ATV with that snowmobile CVT junk, it made my leg hot and roared, never again. I will get a Honda SXS some day.
@@melissasmess2773Get a CRF300 instead👍
9:35 Revving it's tits off and still no action, people look at you weird like what are you trying to do??? Bad for towing and cannot be tuned. A transmission for slaves and people that like to be told how to drive their cars.
Polaris 4 wheelers is where I first experienced the hatred for cvt transmissions
those leafs are going to play havoc
Earth dreams w/o turbo doesn’t have this oil delusion issue the ones that are turbo definitely do have this problem!! Machanic even try to tell owners that they have blown head gaskets and charge them an arm and a leg for a job that cost about half as much!!!
Even Honda dealers will tell customers that it’s a head gasket problem and that it’s not covered under warranty because gaskets are not covered under the warranty and fine print !!!! But the truth is, it’s the piston rings and it’s an engine design issue which should be covered under the warranty and the manufacturer for the design flaw!!!
Scotty I wasn't clear, do you like the CVT transmission? 🤣
He's not a motorboat enjoyer.
Even my 2008 Toyota Yaris has a real transmission. CVT= crap 😂
They're great when they're well-designed and integrated. Sentras suck not because of their CVTs but because they were terribly integrated. They overheat.
@@user-pq9ji7kt4lSubaru also had a lot of trouble with blowing head gaskets, not as much these days but it's still somewhat prevalent
My 2014 Mitsubishi outlander has a CVT transmission and has had no issues so far in 10 years..
It reminds me of a 62 falcon, you stomp the gas and it makes more noise, but doesn't go any faster.
There is a good video here on YT from the Porsche Club of America that says most oil dilution problems can be traced to leaking fuel injectors. It causes cylinder scoring in the flat 6 engines in Porsches. They recommend using a good fuel system and injector cleaner regularly and only using top tier fuels to keep the injectors clean.
Yes, Lake Speed Jr says use synthetic, cut oil intervals and use injector cleaner with PEA detergent
You also have modern cars programmed to dump a ton of fuel right after startup to heat up the catalytic convertor. So that could be contributing to oil dilution on short/cold trips.
those dry leaves at the corners driving my ocd up the wall...😂
I'm Ocd and noticed that too 😂
Not his car. He's a mechanic not a detailer.
electronic parking brake is ok you dont need to touch it just leave it on and when you park just hold brake pedal extra 1.5 seconds and it sets in .
Shouldn't be electric - this is a SAFETY item, you need it work whether you have electricity to it or not -
If the battery is dead good luck moving it.
Always prefill the oiil filter!
No need. Never did that and car ran 300k miles and engine run fine.
@@ayayoutuber See the Motor Oil Geek (Lake Speed jr).
I wish Scotty was still in Houston
I wonder if a manual transmission in the same civic would get as good mileage as the CVT assuming you drive them similarly. I have driven manuals all my life and my last vehicle was a choice between a RAV4 and a Subaru Forester. I ended going with the Subaru because it still has 3 pedals and it's just more fun to drive, for me anyway.
I hope I never wreck it as I can't replace it now.
2020 Chevy Malibu CVT only lasted 63k on my car. Warranty helped me out on that one. Getting a different car soon.
Had first bought an 03 Honda Odessey for the wife only because it had a DVD player to entertain the kids. Wasn't aware of all the issues then but I gave it basic maintenance and it was a great van. Put about 86k when wife sold it to a friend. She regretted it later and i purchased an 06 Odessey for her. Really had about the same results, better than average fuel mileage, few maintenance problems (only changed the radiator) and kept up the basic maintenance. I was surprised after watching this section on the Odessey of the issues. I guess being somewhat ignorant of things cause no issues. If there's another Odessey in my future, I'm gonna check all the points Scotty mentioned.
I had a 2018 honda accord exl 1.5t.
Vehicle overheated with all dash lights on.
Engine blown had to be rebuilt, new turbos and radiator.
Gas and coolant in engine.
Engine had to be rebuilt, radiator, fuel injectors, and turbo replaced.
This happened regardless of all scheduled maintenance being done on time at Honda.
10,000 usd later(7000.00) covered by Honda Care.
I traded the vehicle in immediately.
Would stay from any Honda with a 1.5t.
A younger Scotty means throw back episode.
That’s why I got a 2016 with 2.0 NA and manual transmission. Haven’t had anything wrong on drivetrain EXCEPT the AC. Honda needs to improve their AC design since they leak toooooo fast.
Bro I got the exact same car at 183k it’s a tank
I've owned 2 Honda Fits a 09 Sport with the 5AT and my 2nd one is a 17 EX-L with the CVT I liked the original 5AT way better
Scotty what will it take for you to accept the Honda cvt transmission? i own a 2022 Honda Civic Sport with 2.0 liter fully aspirated 4 cylinder engine with a cvt transmission. it rides and feels great. i mostly drive it around town here in East Lansing, Michigan at lower speeds. when and how often do you recommend i drain and fill the transmission fluid
I had a 16 CRV Earth Dreams that had 180,000 miles before I traded it on a new one. Never lost any oil.
I unfortunately have a 2022 one of these engines, but honda gave me a 10 year warranty and I change the oil every 3k miles. I hope this is enough protection.
use a c o n d o m
Scotty, I went through this video and the transcript and I just can't find where you say which engine to avoid in Honda. What years and what engines should I avoid?
I ha 2017 CRV And I am very happy with it. I don’t smell gas when I pull the old stick. I’ll replace the oil every 5000 miles. He got 70,000 miles on it and he works like a champ. Maybe just because I live in South Florida.
Replaced the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles. I have no complaints, so I don’t know what you’re talking about Scott
I think because the 2016-2020 Honda’s reliability wasn’t the same as the previous cars. These issues occur with other manufacturers regularly. I guess it goes against their image of being a super reliable car.
My 1.5T Civic 2018 is still running like a champ but these Hondas do need more maintenance than previous gen’s.
Ive put 650k on two Odyssey vans. I have no issue with the timing belt. Its usually time to change the water pump and check our the tensioners and oil pump anyway. But I only buy Honda or Toyota…
You are a sigh, Scotty! 🌟
I am always amased, when you have a different vehicle, in which you view, all the favourable conditions, and unfavorable conditions ~ that you are talking about. You simply amase me, Scotty. 🌟
Well Done ! Very educational 🌟🧡🌟. Kindly, artchem 1
Nothing wrong with changing the timing belts, Water pump and other few things every 100,000 miles, Way less money time and labor over bad chain's, Hell Toyota can't even build the new V6 right last time I checked, All I'm saying Toyota has Quality control problems just as many or more last time I checked, I think You missed a Toyota Vehicle or two, Haven't seen real problems coming from Toyota yet on your channel, Maybe check the forum's a little once in while 😮.😁
Probably cause Toyota takes care of the problem 🙃
Dude said check the forums he’s a keyboard warrior.
Timing belt are simple, I can even DiY top overhaul.
Manual transmission is the way to go..😊
That's wat I have done i have 309k on my 2015 mdx new timing belt every 100k miles! Just to b sure
The oil dilution issue with Honda is mainly on the turbo engines
My moms 2016 Honda pilot has 165k miles and it doesn’t get gas in its oil
😺 I popped in a SMART VCM device from Quebec, and now run full time on six cylinders. It is zippy, and I love it!
Tip: The middle row seats are removable, so take them out unless you need to carry six or seven passengers! Less weight means better mileage!
The diesel model 1.6 is amazing i had 2. My friend done over 100k miles like 160k km. Beofre the first major issue and fhat was just the cat needed a clean..... U cant beat honda
Put a sleeping Mexican badge over the Honda logo and you’ll get two thumbs up from Scotty lol
I bring my wife along when I am using the air conditioner. Her yaking drowns out the compressor noise.
Maybe an oil catch can for the earth dreams engines?
The fix on the CVT transmission is buy the car with a manual transmission.
2018 accord 1.5t. Head Gasket at 110k miles. That’s the issue with the 1.5’s.
Whats better a Camry,ir an Accord? And which engine?
Not keen on the high revs in that CVT 😢😢😢
The best choice for buying a car, is the manual transmission. Better than EV, indeed or any automatic.
High efficiency engines run just as hot as old designs. Dont produce as much heat because they are more efficient. Have quit expecting Scotty to understand such distinction.
Actually, one needs to be hotter to be more efficient.
How much gasoline in oil before harm?
I won't lie, seeing Scotty not pre-fill that filter hurts me🥲
I wish I could take my car to you all the time to get it fixed lol
Keep looking at the new rav4 but when I read it’s got the cvt it makes me look away, I’ll stick with my manual shift Rav 4 it’ll probably out last me anyway 😊
I had my leather seats reupholstered. I’m not a cheapskate.
Iv had like 20 different cars during the years. Everything from Mercedes S class/Bmw M3/ Caddilac northstar. All way down to VW Lupo 3L.. But never had any major issues. I guess im just lucky 😂
You must not keep them long enough to have issues. Some of us drive our vehicles until they die. However, every Honda and Toyota I have ever purchased is still on the road (I give my cars to family members after about 15 years). I have had to "retire" a Ford, Mazda, and Hyundai because they became unrepairable.
My Toyota CHR's transmission was terrible. Thank goodness I leased it. Never let your significant other choose your car payment.
High Revolution engines wear out much faster then engines with regular automatic transmissions .
Those early 2000’s Odysseys actually were very good for their time. Compared to the Ford Aerostars and Chevy minivans they were much better.
Even today they still look and feel somewhat modern too. My friend had one with a retrofitted headunit with carplay and stuff, it was a pretty nice van. His transmission went at 300k, but hey can't beat it still.
I think they use the jatco cvt trans not the best just keep up with the fluid changes and it may be ok 😢
Just because i saw your video im going to buy a honda now
Gee Scotty, my Chevy Cruze has direct inject and a turbo and it doesn’t have any oil dilution problems.
On a diesel engine high psi was developed 50 years ago. If Honda were "burning lean" or in a correct 14 to ratio it would have burned all the fuel. Not sent unburned gas to the oil pan. Wasted fuel in the pan leads to dry engine bearings, scored cylinder walls. Sue the hell out of Honda if you have one.
Holden Equinox socks. Costs me thousands every week on breakdowns. It just dies. No electricity. The garage just loves lending mechanical insurance. 😢. I think I'm duped.
Lots of Gdi system on Hyundai engines too. Is the GDI system also something crap on those cars? Hunday i30 etc ? Don't think mazda has Gdi technology...?
Just asking if i somtime should by somthing other then the Corolla i drive... 😁
Scotty I just got a 1990 Honda accord with 160k miles on it from my grandparents for $1000 and it’s my first car, they drove very slow never got pulled over at all, it’s also been sitting for a year in their garage, what problems should I look for first ?
I would ask on a honda accord forum
Wait for it, wait for it....I love it when Scotty takes off the stupid beauty covers!
Scotty i got a tesla car, but its a hot wheels, what do u think of it
Not surprise L15 turbo CVT. A Honda fit boost to 200hp, anything wear faster, the gas mileage are not even good compared to k20.
He said "please" 😄
I had to do oil change on my 2 Crv at 3000 miles because the oil was very dark and it was smelling like hell. Bring them to the dealer, they did software update, did absolutely nothing. The guy told me not to worry i still have warranty. Told him that both engine won't last very long with the kind of maintenance they propose and that they are likely to die soon after the warranty expire
Guy laugh at me and told me i wasn't an expert and that i should trust Honda and to do oil change the way they recommend and that the gaz smell is normal on both crv loll
Brought back the 2 CRV, Honda lost me as a client for life. I've been an hardcore fan of honda engine all my life but these modern engines aren't made to last, better stick with old school honda engine
Regarding the Civic; yes, I'm a driver which is why I wouldn't even buy the Civic with an automatic tranny, regardless of type.. I want a manual clutch, especially in the civic. It would have been even less money.
And people still defend on modern Hondas and yet they are good as they say. Bro those days are gone. They don’t make good quality as they used to.
Idk I buy cheap oil for my old 220k mile 2010 elantra and it clicks more then the purple stuff. So I spend money on the purple stuff.
What the hell was on the steering wheel of the 2nd Honda ace bandage 🩹🩹🩹
i think the car was broken and is still healing ;-)
What’s a good car with good AC?
You are wrong. A lot of brands are using timing belts. There is even timing belts that's soaked in oil like ecoboost and Peugeot engines.
Sooo… does Scotty like CVTs? I don’t recall him mentioning it in the video…
My 2015 Accord high pressure fuel pump failed at 40k miles. $800 for the part and replace it yourself or $1,200 and take it to a mechanic.
I just wish these car companys would listen to the people on what they want in a new car no turbo,s no cvts thank you😮
What ever happened to manual transmissions? They just don't make them anymore? 😞
I like a manual Emergency Brake, as a backup, if the brakes go out, which has saved me a couple of times.
Hi, I wanted to know if you can help find a inexpensive scan tool for my 2012 s550 4matic w221 mercedes that can reset ac code. I'm disable with limited income can you please help thank you
I’m trading my Taco for a used Tesla. Which model do you recommend Scotty?? I want one that works well in a cold state like North Dakota.
Don't do it. Tesla suck!
I'm really from the dark ages. All the vehicles that I worked on all those years ago had nothing but timing chains; fours, sixes, or eights, it didn't matter. All timing chains.
Nothing about a new Civic makes me want one over their previous vehicles... CVT's are garbage...
You should really not take off fast with these CVT's. I never do with my 12' Altima CVT and not doing so has probably been a factor in this transmission lasting 13 years so far.

How many FREE Cars do you think Honda has given me seeing as how we are 'Brothers'. Hope you guessed None. :(
My earth dream had run for 6 years and nothing had happend to the engine. No fuel in oil, run smooth. Just change your oil every 5k instead of 10k. Change cvt fkuid every 30k and no problem either. The ac did busted ..so that is a known issue.
Not a problem for years now!
My Hyundai sonata have oil consumption what is the problem..?
