The tip that helped me started hitting my 3 wood solidly was that given by Ian Woosnam. He said something like think of the 3w swing like a door opening and closing on its hinges, and imagine your head as the hinges. This really helps solid contact and the length of the club gives plenty of clubhead speed without much effort or lateral shift.

A discussion of ball position would be good to add to this vid....as you said, most amateurs try to hit it like a driver but IMHO it should be more like a 3 or 4 iron ball position.
One thing that helped me was when my instructor told me "clip it to rip it" - when I applied that principle to my fairway woods I started hitting more consistent, accurate and longer fairway woods, off the Tee and off the deck.
This video is 2 years old and sure would like to see an updated version with included ball position for various shots from the rough and short grass.
    Thanks for the videos guys

Love fairway woods although often get punished. Very few golf shots surpass the feeling of a good fairway wood shot. Just yesterday have taken to playing 7,5,3 woods off the tee box in a casual round of golf. Purpose is to ensure i get more practice with them and longer irons into the green.

Love the telescopic view of the clubhead and ball. Now if only the ball was that big. :D

Love it! 4 woods are the best clubs out there the fewest people play!

My dad is the same. The movements will be the same, but your feels will most likely be unique
