@@camez2345 Mmmm,... not necessarily. Reading the _entirety_ of @Mel post: Statement in essence admits to not being able to recall other flapping sound _"perhaps"_ actually heard at some earlier or later time. 🤓
What a fluffy birdy bottom! I love hearing her talons clicking around on the bathtub. My parrot takes a similar sort of bath, except Mr. Feathers makes a FAR greater mess. 💚💛🧡
Nah, he probably got most of her feathers wet, we just can tell that well because even non aquatic birds produce oils (from their butts) which they spread on their feathers to keep them clean and insulated, which also makes them not appear wet. It's not as impressive as watching beads of water roll off a duck's back, but it's similar. It's the downy feathers that usually show a bird just had a bath. And yes, I've spent a lot of time watching my budgies bathe.
This is something I’ve learned just in the past year: birds are able to “push out” their downy under-feathers at will for washing and for “showing” (a kind of exhibition). That is what this owl was doing. Pretty cool, isn’t it?
Actually, under their outer plumage, most owls are fluffy. It enables them to fly very quietly. The discs of feathers around their eyes are to gather and focus sounds to their ears, which are set farther forward than most other birds and have a row of small feathers behind them which are offset from each other on the different ears. This enables them to pinpoint the direction from which sounds come very precisely, a pretty good trick for a predator to have up its sleeve.
There's still room for improvement. Prior to the current remodels they had a polar bear that was clearly distressed and would constantly pace. Zoos need adequately sized enclosures for species to thrive in.
Really nice watching this cute bird taking a bath. I think he needs an upgrade to a full-size tub though because he did the best he could with the sparse water - he washed the important parts, LOL!
Aww, a young one. How lovely.. Nothing fancy needed, just a couple of pints of fresh water daily. A bit of copper piping helps to stop green algae & wont harm the wildlife at all.. Thank you for this!! 🦉💚
I never saw anything like this. Never thought of owls taking bath in water. So very fluffy what a lovely feather array. I live at creek with lots of trees and a field and etc. So I get to hear owls at night
So cute, little owls. I'm always in awe for an owl when I see one. They've got this energy around them that is very special. Did you notice that the shaking of feathers isn't audible at all, just the splashing of water? Owl feathers are so constructed that you don't hear them in flight. That's how they can catch their prey. I've experienced once, in a remote forest, that 3 owls came from behind me, when I walked on a path, flew right over my head, without a noise. I watched them fly into the forest, a magical sight!
I always love to see birds bathing. But owls are my favourite. Thank you for sharing this. So cute. Besides birds get never completely wet since they wouldnt be able to fly with wet feathers and couldnt escape.
I’ve always loved Owls. All sorts of Owls. Wish there were a rehab center nearer to me but I live far away from anyplace that does this where I could volunteer & learn rescue & rehab. Unfortunately I grew up in a very large poor family & realized early on that the few dreams I wanted to grow up & into becoming as an adult, was just not going to happen! But I certainly got to see the few selections that were Native Species in the Appalachian Mtns of Ky! Nothing better than sitting outside on a very dark night & hearing only the sounds of nature!
Utterly adorable. Thanks for posting. I have always thought owls to be very beautiful and cute too! I was a very keen watcher of Harry Potter movies for the owls appearing in them.

"They were tasty ducks too..."

Rub a dub dub, a cute owl in the tub.
Don’t you mean:
Rub a dub dub, “there’s” a cute owl in the tub.? Either way it is too much cuteness to deal with at 7:10 in the morning.
@@18SweetTeaRexes Why the need to correct her comment? This is social media, not school. Does it really matter how she said it? Lol 🤷🏻♀️
Good one, Janice!😁👍
@Janice Sullivan That's an adorable description!
Всмысле для меня, а не для совы
I love the big jump into the water, he is so cute.
I can honestly say that I have never seen an owl take a bath!
Heather deAvalon, look at bird bath
that's because their feathers aren't waterproof at all like other birds so they can't fly if they get too wet
I feel like this owl hasn't either lol
That is the first and perhaps the only time I've heard an owl's wings.
Quite the trick, since owls usually fly completely silently.
0:47 Lots of water getting on its wings. Perhaps some of the trapped water has upset the normal airflow across the wings (?)
Well, if it's the first time and you wrote the comment immediately after, then yeah, it's also the only time.

I guess birdy bottom is the only area to be cleaned. Rain will take care of the rest. It’s hard to fly with wet wings.

Yes, I call them pantaloons as well 🥰
This little guy likes his bath for sure. A really nice close up of him in action.
I felt a bit embarrassed, like I was invading his private moment. Imagine someone putting a camera by your butt while your standing in the tub 😂
