This was 100% stupidity and greed. Considering the reasons why people kill their own children or spouses I understand this Murderer had no care/empathy for another humans life. Getting to feel special by this online "relationship" and being set financially was all it took for her to kill and I know she would have done it again if asked before she got the fake 9 million and feel special to someone online.

Everyone talking about “I don’t want my daughter growing up thinking of me as a murderer” but not talking about “BECAUSE I DON’T SEE MYSELF AS ONE.”
This girl is so wrapped up in her own ego that she can’t even acknowledge that she’s committed murder, what an absolute monster.
People would literally do anything for money. This girl had no actual proof that a random man on the internet was actually going to pay her (she didn't even verify his identity), but she decided to plan and do the whole thing anyways. For me, the worst part is that she actually got to know Cynthia, saw she considered them friends, spent time with her, etc., just for... killing her. Like, the bond she created was not enough to make her change her mind. It's just horrible.
That shows me that she's both incredibly naive and VERY likely a sociopath, I'm fine with her being in jail for life. She would do nothing but traumatize if left in the general population.

I didn’t go to school with them, but I know people who did (I’m also from anchorage) and idk about you but it felt kind of weird to see this being discussed on true crime channels. This case is pretty recent and (as you know) pretty traumatic for the community, so seeing turned into a story for public entertainment value while people are still actively grieving and trying to put their lives back together doesn’t really sit well with me.
@@engf223 while yeah i think the timing is very off & that a video like this should have waited a bit, i think the message is helpful to the online community. it shows that you never really know who you're talking to & to be wary of the people you talk to online/in person. it helps prevent another event like this happening. which i really hope nothing like this happens again.
I went to school with Darin, if it helps any last time anyone heard from him was his adoptive mom (they disowned him btw) and it was to tell her about how he’s been getting beaten in prison. So hopefully they don’t kill him and just keep the beatings going, maybe tossing in a light shanking or two.

It amazes me how she played the victim but still expected the money. She couldn't convince me that she regrets anything except not getting the money and getting caught.
Denali is NOT Cynthia's best friend. No friend would do what she did to Cynthia. They wouldn't even think of it. They played that poor girl. I hope they all get what they deserve. Charge them all to the full extent of the law, the fact that they were young is really not an excuse.

There's a point when it stops being "she's young" and becomes "she's psychologically inept in some form".

I live in Anchorage and went to service high school with Cynthia, I used to see her in the halls exchanging glances and we even had a class together sophomore year. it's truly tragic what happened and I hope Brehmer and her accomplices rot in federal prison. RIP Cynthia

She had a disability too and adopted and a troubled past. Adopted family are good people.
Such a sad story overall. Hoffman's father's pain was felt all over Alaska. ❤
I grew up in Alaska and had relocated to the lower 48 before this happened... but I was close knit in the communities the girls shared and when I heard about this it destroyed me. Absolutely broke my heart. I'd interacted with both st local events and it just shook me.
I hope she's brought to justice.
I knew the guy, Darin, if it helps any he’s been getting consistently beat up in prison. His adoptive family disowned him after this happened but he called his mom to tell her about it. (She told my sister that works at a gas station she goes to, she’s open to talking about it usually)

The sad reality is that “cat fishing” existed before the internet. I know there are cases of people being duped into murder plots as victims or accomplices though newspaper personal adverts. Now, it’s just a lot easier to catfish on a more timely manner since online messaging via social media or texting is so instantaneous. Be cautious of who you are messaging on the internet and be careful how much of yourself you put out into digital platforms everyone! 💙
I went to school with Brehmer. I sat right next to her in Home Ec. and talked to her pretty much every day, even though I didn't want to because the things she would say made me uncomfortable. She went by Dakota. She was really talkative and overshared a lot about her home life, like the abuse that her dad put her family through. She consistently asked to be my friend but I always had a bad feeling about her and stayed away. It's crazy to look at her now knowing what she did, and where her choices led her
an old friend of mine was the best friend of the girl that was killed. i was there when they found out she died. it was horrible. we’re not friends anymore but i hope they’re doing okay

@@carrotisalie no, my friend was the childhood friend of cynthia. they knew each other since they were young I’m pretty sure. my friends and i had to comfort them when they told us about her friends disappearance, and when they informed us that she was killed, we didn’t know what to do. it was a really hard time. like i said we’re not friends anymore but i see their instagram posts sometimes and they seem to be doing alright
Aria has quickly become a favorite of mine. I love the research he does into these cases and the way he intertwined his own opinions and perspectives without pushing them on the viewer. ❤️
Have you seen his livestream vid when he hung out with ice Poseidon for a couple months and tried streaming himself? It's good stuff. Naturally some of ices edgy fans started calling themselves "Arian nation" as his viewers. I think most are trolls thinking immature stuff like that is funny but there were definitely racist scum lurking in that community and it had a dark underbelly that eventually destroyed ices career, not that he's some saint. I went to school with Denali (Dakota) and Caleb Leyland. Caleb was even a really close friend of mine in middle school, so seeing you guys talk about something that I was so close to is super strange. It's strange to be connected without having anything to do with it.

I feel this so hard. I didn't go to school with any of them but interacted with them and was friends with a lot of the community they were in. I remember hearing about what happened affecting me very deeply when it was still a very fresh case... and seeing it pop up on BFU is really chilling.
I’m also from anchorage and was in high school during this time. I know people who knew them, and I’m actually kind of uncomfortable with them making a video on this. It’s completely within their rights to do, but with true crime I think there needs to be an awareness that there is a point where it is too soon to pick out a case for public consumption and entertainment. I’m not sure this was even two years ago, people are still grieving and trying to put their lives back together. It’s one thing to report on a recent crime in a journalistic manner, but true crime has a layer of entertainment value added to it, which feels kind of inappropriate for very recent cases.

But I also think some good can come out of videos like this, creating awareness and letting people know about a family in need, multiple families who made need help from online communities. Denali was one of the worst people I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. She bullied my sister, she called my best friend fat, she emotionally manipulated people to feel bad for her, and started fights with people for no real reason other than attention. But she was also a rather normal bully, I never thought that it would get this far. I was happy when she left my school because it meant that people would be bullied less. It's a cautionary tale, and I think it can help to know this story and make it bigger. I do agree with you though, there is a difference between true crime and news media. Trying to find some good in a given situation is something I do, so here is what I believe is a very thin, almost impossibly thin silver lining on a giant tornado of a rain cloud.

I’m from Alaska and actually had a class with Denali, and it’s so crazy that all of this was happening right under so many peoples noses.
What was she like as a person?
@@MuhammadAhsan-qu1tt It's kind of hard to describe her because although I was in the same class as her, I didn't really spend much time with her. She's from a town in Alaska called Chugiak and most people from there are already not good in the head.

I had gone hiking a few days after this and there was still "evidence" and crime scene tape on the trail. We had no clue what had happened until later when it hit the news.
This was one of the crimes that shook the community.
And when it was on the news the girls has zero remorse.

I went to school with her, and she was very quiet and nice, when it happened back home everyone was very upset. She was sweet, and very shy. What they did shook Anchorage as a whole.
I am from Anchorage, and I remember seeing this on the news after it happened. Truly heartbreaking.

I don't watch crime content a lot anymore (after having my son recently I'm too emotional lol) but when I do it really makes me feel for the victims and their families. Idk, I think it just depends on if you view this as dark drama entertainment, or a retelling of a tragedy.

This shook our community and saddened everyone. A sweet girl just wanted to have friends and these people exploited her kindness. My kids went to school with the girls. Its terrifying as a mother of a disabled child someone could/would seek them out to harm them. Alaska needs the death penalty.

gotta say, this is a little bizarre for me. went to elementary school/middle school with dakota (what i knew her by back then).
