ashley miranda my family used to not lock our doors because our street was safe, it never had any break ins, assaults etc. So we thought it’d be okay to keep it unlocked, but then one day someone got in and attacked us, so we now lock our doors all the time no matter what.

Who did they insult
I feel like the Watcher was someone in the neighborhood who probably had a grudge against Maria. Maria grew up in this neighborhood, left, and wanted to come back. The Broaddus's were clearly targeted, and the fact that the person got so upset after the Broaddus's sent letters back to the neighborhood shows a deep personal investment and grudge. It's just so petty and sad. I wish the Broaddus's would've stayed in the neighborhood and just protect themselves. Once this story became viral, it's pretty clear in my opinion that whoever the stalker is has far more to lose than the Broaddus's if the truth plays out.

I remember watching this video years ago and learning about this case. Now, after watching the new loosely based Netflix series I decided to re-watch this video to separate fiction from fact. Great work guys!
I literally did the same thing lol, while watching it on Netflix I knew the story sounded familiar. Then I realized i heard it from buzzfeed some years ago lol.

“Loosely based” is an understatement
The series honestly is maddening to watch after having done research and stuff on the case. They know there's no true resolution so they're tying in other entirely unrelated true cases like the List murders and trying to claim it's based on a true story. If I don't think about the true story, it's an interesting show, however.
@@omowry2374 that's not really netflix fault though. the family said they didn't really want to be associated with the series and they wanted a lot of details to not be included in the story so netflix had free reign to make it however they wanted.

For those interested, my family has lived is Westfield for years. It’s a very safe and wealthy suburban town, but there are alot of old-Victorian style homes that have been occupied for years some of which were passed down and are now home to elder recluses who dislike the “yuppy” types moving into town. Developers try and purchase this Victorian era homes to build more modern houses but these lifers refuse to sell. The thing about that is “The Watcher” would mail out his letter and it will arrive the next day, and the mailman would deliver the letter to that mailbox. I think the best way is to open each mail and see where it was sent out from, but again it would be illegal to open someone else’s mail.

I been obsessed with this case since this episode and I’m so thrilled Netflix made a show about it.
The fact that he knows their names, but misspelled them is terrifying. That means that he didn’t look them up, but he HEARD them say the names. He wasn’t just trolling them from some computer 30 miles away, he was there, listening.
Actually, to me, the misspelling is the biggest red flag that they did it themselves. Like, that just screams, “Well, it couldn’t be us! See? They misspelled our name!”
I can’t make up my mind about if they did do it, but that particular detail is really suspicious.

I realize that this is probably a little detail that people probably won’t take much notice of, but… I think that was super nice of the Broaddus family to rent the house out to someone, but would let them move out if another letter arrived. I just think that it was nice that they gave the new people who lived there a way out. I can always appreciate an act of compassion.
