      I don’t think Henderson being part of the squad is necessarily bad, probably shouldn’t be starting though I agree. Maguire shouldn’t even be a part of the squad. Now, if I had that job with the current squad, I'd probably play 433, with Emre Can starting at LB pushing up into midfield alongside Kimmich at 6, allowing Gundogan and Wiryz to join the attacking line (very Man City) of Musiala/Brandt, Havertz & Sane/Gnabry. That gives a solid defense (back 3 of Schlotterbeck, Superman & Thiaw at notional RB) a midfield thst can control and a mobile attack - Havertz isn't a goalscoring 9 but his height and a bility to drop off should fashion chances for the rest.

    I'm not English but I'll say the following: Southgate has done a fine job taking England this far. He has galvanized the team, pulled them together and created a sense of belonging and self to a national team that lacked it before him. That work is commendable. But he is not the one that will take England further. He is too static, too slow to change, too conservative. He lacks the decisiveness, the daring attitude, the traits required to train a team into World Champions. And that is what England's aim should be with this crop of players they got.

With my friends who are girls it's so easy to talk with and believe them and help them out, but with these cases where you don't know any of the details or the people involved it is much more difficult.

      I'd argue Dunk has nailed himself as a starter until Tomori takes the chance, James over Walker. Think of the players missing from that starting line-up: Foden, Sterling, Mount, Eze, Wilson, Toney, Grealish, Abraham, Watkins, Barnes, March, SHaw, JWP, Trent, James, Trippier, Shaw. Our squad is the best it's ever been in terms of overall depth and talent.

  • @badabing8884
    @badabing8884 Před 3 měsíci

    Sadly I think it is English fans who are over blowing England’s chances with their expectations. They look at the players playing in the Premier league and think they should be world beating. But they are surrounded by other world class players which make up their technical and tactical deficiencies.
    England’s Mens’ senior team have only ever won one major tournament and that was 58 years ago when all the matches were played at Wembley. It can’t just be the manager that all the subsequent generations have failed to win one. And it can’t just be down to the manager. Even when they did reach a final it was again at Wembley and they produced one shot on target the whole 120m of football. Just not good enough.
    I think it may be until 2028 that England will have their best chance of winning the euros. We’ve yet to even get to a final of a WC or Euros when played overseas. And even then we’ll need to learn the mistakes of the Euro 2020 (1) final.
    Based on 1966 England need - a great manager, a great team and the final to be played at Wembley to win one. And even then we need to produce much better football than we did back in 2021.
    The distribution from Pickford, and the slow centre backs and not playing through midfield is obvious - instead passing to full backs to get around teams. Kane dropping too deep to pick up the ball is indicative that England aren’t getting the ball to front 3.
    Otherwise we’ll repeat the same formula of blaming individual players and the manager when England inevitably fail at a major tournament.

    I understand this is a Euro-centric show, however it would be nice to give some consideration to discussing teams from other continents, especially when discussing head-to-heads like Japan v Germany. Japan's performance was barely mentioned, and this is consistent with most coverage on FD regarding international football. The sport does transcend Europe, despite the "skill-gap", a little bit more attention could be placed on other countries when games are brought up involving non-euro teams.

    Guys, did you not see Foden against Newcastle ? VERY few players in the world could play in the way he did that night . It has to be Rice, Bellingham , Foden . It seems so obvious . On the left, Rashford was talked about as possibly the most in-form player in the world when he was scoring worldies every other week and 29 goals last season . Has to be front six of Rice, Bellingham , Foden , Rashord, Saka Kane . In no world , Bellingham having plenty of experience as an Eight, do we have two of either Foden Rashford or Maddison sat on the bench and Henderson who desint even have the 'legs' he once had, playing ahead of them . Nice guy Gareth but he is overthinking this. If we wish to be the best team in the world, we have to have a coach who stops being so negative
