  • Mochi Mayhem the epilouge event for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has been released with Pecharunt benig the latest mythical Pokemon from this quest, and while it's nice that we got a free DLC update, and an actual event legendary Pokemon after so long, this DLC 100% has issues. Yes all 5 of the Gen 9 rival were there, but man did this event fall flat when it comes to the story and DLC.

Considering the little story that was here, they could have just stuck Mochi Mayhem within the Teal Mask so it would feel less disjointed going back to Kitakami after finishing the Indigo Disk. Not every story needs to be explained in every little detail. There are many clues to what the all story is while leaving some mysteries in the air, for the interpretation of the player.
It is confirmed that Pecharunt had the Loyal three under his command as he gets mad they're not anymore if you bring one in your fight against him. In the same way, Ogerpon is really mad when brought out since he knows Pecharunt was behind them (and potentially the all village's hatred in the past).
The all "desire to the extreme" is not only Kieran's thematic, but also the AI professor. And we know Terapagos' influence linked Paldea and Kitakami once.
The dust on the inanimate Pecharunt on the stand tells us that he probably sleeps for long times unless something wakes it, in this case it's likely the mythical pecha's scent.
The story is still there, even if they leave empty spaces for you to fill out. We can't know for sure all the details, and we are not supposed to.

Dude, one thing is to find clues here and there but not leaving it all to the fans interpretation, so you mean is ok for fans to build the story instead of the game developers? Because that's the whole deal with mythical Pokémon since years ago, it's extremelly rare for them to have a story or lore related to their native region, and this one is a HUGE miss opportunity, nobody managed to identify this "unknown" Pokémon, they didn't even wondered what was that thing, that's the least we should get, and the possesion thing should be more related to people's ambitions and less "oh, just make everyone do the chicken dance" and maybe people would put two and two together, also even characters pointing out some relation to how the possesion could look similar to the loyal three toxic chains, stuff like that. I don't think people ask to explain every single detail, Peacharunt could do something completely different but at the same time it could hint how everything started, how the loyal three were created, stuff like that, because without that, you are just saying that in the point of view of the characters, Peacharunt is not related to the Loyal three, it is an unknown Pokémon and it just appeared out of nowhere for no reason, that's why the story doesn't work at all.

I have a feeling that Pecharunt was meant to be more connected to the 1st DLC’s story, but, they needed a mon to be a mythical event & decided to reduce (cut) Pecharunt’s role in the main 1st DLC’s story
Thus why it feels *disjointed* imo
After all, that cutscene that plays in the 1st DLC (talking about Ogerpon’s past) shows the Lousy 3 AND Pecharunt (cut out) is probably a remnant of the original story the devs had planned out
TLDR : Pecharunt played a bigger part as a legendary in the 1st DLC’s story, devs needed a mon for myth event, decided it should be Pecharunt, & reworked its role to be done at a later time thus why it feels so disconnected

@@MaxEdrox "so you mean is ok for fans to build the story instead of the game developers?"
Yes. That's the point. Of course a writer knows the story he writes, ideas are not put at random (And that's why exploration of cut content is interesting in any games, looking at how the story might have been told differently).
But in the end, the final product is meant to be leaving room for interpretation, holes that have several solutions to connect the dots.
The story is told incomplete, it is different from "not working".

pecharunt’s dex entry for scarlet could also explain why kieran’s been acting the way that hes been. my theory is basically pecharunt helping kieran’s desire for victory and draws out his untapped potential, to the point where he quite literally trained without rest during blueberry academy. maybe the reason why kieran and the loyal 3 isnt complete mochi mochi is because at the brief interaction at peachy’s, maybe pecharunt gave kieran some power for loyalty and power but kieran unintentionally transferred some of the power from pecharunt to the loyal 3 with his punch, making his and the loyal 3’s loyalty not as much diffeent while still drawing out their potential and desires, or something to that degree.

That strong will and desire being the perfect conduit for him to liberate those purple fumes while in the Loyal Three altar.
Maybe Kieran wasn't fully possessed because he had the Teal Mask with him, it probably gave him some immunity. Idk.

8:09 I think it's up to interpretation, so here's my take:
Pecharunt needs to give the toxic chain or mochi in order to fully get control with the desires, Kieran didn't have it, but due to his feelings of being betrayed caused Pecharunt to slightly alter him, and was able to transfer its essence to the monument through Kieran, and near the end Pecharunt manages to get control over Kieran's emotions almost fully.
Later on, Kieran is still under it's influence in Blueberry Academy, but a few things make it easier for him to momentarily snap out of it. And his reaction to Ogerpon (which I didn't do because I don't want to be a jerk), was Pecharunt remembering Ogerpon and having a sudden reaction to it. In Area Zero's Underdepths though, Pecharunt's dormant body was far enough from Kieran that the player calling out for Kieran to help was able to make Kieran remember their bond and break free. This also explains why Kieran's hairstyle is moved around to look like Pecharunt, but also why his eyes don't turn purple because the control is incomplete, meaning you can snap him out of it without having to contain/defeat Pecharunt.

I feel like part of these expectations are based in how much people DID figure out beforehand. Concluding that there has to be more, people kept imagining the possibilities of what it could be or do. Pecharunt is a puppetmaster, it is a schemer. Maybe it did have grand plans but the player, being the protagonist, crushed them underfoot again and again. Maybe this was its last ditch effort to get what it wanted, possibly revenge for its defeat at the hands (paws?) of Ogrepon. People controlled by it can speak and write, maybe it got someone else to do something indirectly. Or maybe the mythical pecha berry revitalized it from its slumber? Some of the official posts about the event suggest that Pecharunt is stirred by the smell.

I think the backstory is clear for Kitakami but the whole Area Zero stuff is still up for debate, regardless of the new idea with the Time Machine actually being a working machine, but not in the sense that it’s our past or future, rather branched realities/timelines that mimic our own.

It’s way more satisfying to see a character change on their own, not being controlled by someone. It would honestly ruin him as a character if he was controlled.

    Considering their teams, it does kinda make sense Nemona beating Kieran. Lycanroc, Kommo-o/Goodra, or even Pawmot can counter with Incineroar, Dragonite, Politoed, Porygon-Z, Grimmsnarl, & Hydrapple with how Nemona has set up their final movesets. And Nemona's will is so OP to fight through Pecharunt's control to still being herself to fight us!!!! And I have to say, Nemona's new improved team is interesting!!!! I figured Lycanroc, Goodra, & Pawmot would remain as they're signature constants with her (of course the Starter remains too). I did think it was a good changing Dudunsparce & Orthworm, as they never felt real in her team. I Really wasn't expecting another Pseudo like Kommo-o though. And Nemona is sorta pulling a Leon, as unlike Leon where one of his pokemon (that's not the starter) is at a type disadvantage to the player's starter (Rhyperior, Seismitoad, & Mr. Rime), Nemona picks one that's stronger than the player's (Milotic, Ribombee, & Dusknoir) {as well as the addition that Nemona also gains another starter of either Infernape, Decidueye, or Greninja}
    - But I am a bit curious which of team fits Nemona best more. In my opinion, I'd say Milotic would be her best synched choice (secondary/back-up would be Ribombee. Dusknoir seems kinda far-off of Nemona's character & personality); in which this also links to her additional partner as Infernape which I can also think matches Nemona well too

Or they just want fans to piece it together. We sort of have/can with the hints. We know Pecharunt is the boss of the Lousy Three. He was there when they attacked Ogrepon (Ogrepon's reaction when fighting Pecharunt shows this as she is pissed! And the image of the trio from the TM cutscene). The only big question is... how were the lousy three revived. Given Pecharunt's ghost typing, I can only assume it's because of the toxic chains of the trio reacting to Kieran's strong emotions (or the presence of the Teal Mask).

Maybe Kieran actually ruined Pecharunt’s plan. During the event, Pecharunt took the mob to Loyalty Plaza. But the loyal three weren’t there, because they had long since been resurrected and (most likely) caught by the player already. Imagine a version where they were still there for Pecharunt to revive and power up. The player would be so busy with them that Pecharunt could escape. Still annoyed that the purple color of that aura when the three were revived is never going to be explained, because it’s apparently not the case that Kieran was being used. Pecharunt would have known it was pointless to go Loyalty Plaza. Maybe we wanted a dark story than GameFreak wanted to give us.

  • @fiercedeitymidna5781
    @fiercedeitymidna5781 Před 5 měsíci +1

I agree with the fact that Pecharunt could have been introduced in a better, more lore compatible way. The following is a list of some tidbits/lore that could have been used in Pecharunt's DLC:
    *OGERPON"S PAST*
-We see in Grandpa's story that there were four pokemon that stole the masks (it's clearly Pecharunt in the upper right corner, not a part of Okidogi's chain like some people misinterpret).
    *POKEMON D/P/PLAT*
-There's also the (Dis)loyal Three sporting purple chains (which are similar to the Red Chain Cyrus used to control Diagla and Palkia in D/P/Plat.).
-The (Dis)loyal Three are a trio, similar to the Lake Trio in D/P/Plat.
-Penny, Arven, and Nemona make up what I call "Paldea Trio". Much like the trio of Dialga, Palkia, and Arceus.
    *POKEMON COLLOSEUM*
-Kieran's Shadow Punch/Pecarunt's possession effect look similar to the dark energy effect that Shadow Pokemon from the Colloseum had.
-Ogerpon was never at the cave whenever Kieran visited there, which may suggest that she had the same power that Rua had (the power to see the darkness within the Shadow Pokemon).
-Kieran's refusal to listen (which I see as another reference to Colloseum, specifically the "pokemon's hearts being closed off artificially" part), only coming to his senses once emotions reaching a fever pitch and Scarlet/Violet* call out to Kieran.
    *POKEMON RED/BLUE/YELLOW*
-In Lavender Town, there was a place dedicated to laying the souls of deceased Pokemon to rest. Most of the trainers there were Mediums, which were influenced by ghosts. It's possible that this happened because of The GHOST's rage from Team Rocket desecrating it's grave (which most likely influenced the Meduims who resided in the tower). This bit of lore could have been used as a way to explain Kieran's Shadow Punch cutscene, since Kieran did stand next to the plushie at Peachy's (getting the power to resurrect the Disloyal Three just from exposure to a harmless looking plushy that turned out to be toxic).
*I'm using Scarlet as the girl's name and Violet as the Boy's name since I don't know their canon names...

The crystal pool brings people back to life in a way. One of those crystals are on the mask Kieran stole in teal mask. Then the intent, after he got beaten by the mc, he was angered at being outcasted by his sister and the mc, and then punched the shrine. Life giving crystal+intent+contact

  • @sonofcyrus5402
    @sonofcyrus5402 Před 5 měsíci +1

If i had to guess, the loyal three revived after feeling Kieran's desire to become stronger and prove himself to the MC when he punched the grave, the purple glow simply being corrupt desire and not some mysteirous power linked to Pecharunt.
Yeah, Pecharunt was what gave the loyal three powers based on desires and all, but it wasn't evolved with events at all until the Mochi Mayhem event. Maybe the reason it woke up in the first place was because it was hungry, its name is Pecharunt , like a Pecha Berry, and you have a Mythical Pecha berry in your pocket after all. :/

I feel like after Sun & Moon (the original's not ULT. Sun/ULT. Moon) the story aspect kinda went to Hell. I'm not asking for Baldur's Gate 3 levels of story telling but what I am asking for is a concrete story with actual villains that are both seen and talked about for most of the game, plot points that don't just happen out of the blue, good character development (which to Scarlet & Violet's credit, is something the game is pretty good at for the most part), and no deus ex machina's (like how we're somehow able to catch Terapagos in ANY pokeball even though it literally broke the only pokeball that results in a 100% catch rate). While I have some minor issues with them, I liked the base game's overall story for Scarlet & Violet and the Teal Mask's story but the latter half of the story for Indigo Disk and the entire Epilogue feel really phoned in.

@@mrfrogyeet I know the shield is what broke the master ball but you're still forgetting that this is a master ball we're talking about here. It's the thing that's been guaranteed to catch any pokemon in any game that it's been in for years. The only explanation Scarlet & Violet gives players for having the shield break the master ball is because Terapagos was overwhelmed by the terastal energy down in the deepest part of the Underdepths in Area Zero which-anyone who's played any Pokemon game other than Legend's Arceus (it's the one game without the master ball due to not having been invented yet) would know just how much of a cop out that is. If I can catch the God of the pokemon universe with a master ball without it putting up a shield then why should a pokemon that is significantly weaker (in both a lore and literal sense) be able to do this? As Lacey would say, "It's just not right!"

The mon needed to be overcharged with terastal energy to break it and you just finished beating it all out of 'em the same way you do any other tera raid.

lol I thought Kieran was possessed by Pecharunt in the Indigo disc because he had the purple hair. I thought Pecharunt was on Kieran's head making Kieran aggressive

The Area Zero part of Indigo Disk and this Epilogue reek of rewrites. So many dropped plot threads and both stories boiling down to "find the legendary, boss fight, catch it, done." with little to no explanation of why it should tie into the rest of the story. I mean, think about it. What's Pecharunt's goal? It just gets woken up after we show up at Peachy's with some pecha berry we got in the mail, feeds mochi to everyone to bring them under its control and then... what? What was its plan for after it took control of everyone? Maybe it might have wanted revenge on Ogerpon and us for beating/killing the Loyal Three, but the most we get of that is a minor interaction if you use Ogerpon against it. Maybe it saw Terapagos as competition with their "wish-granting abilities" (Terastal vs Toxic Chain)? Anything like that?

To be honest, people were asking for the events like Platinum's to come back. And that's exactly what we got.
An event tying up a loose end(s) to post game/DLC storylines...in the vaguest sense possible.
We also never learned how Oak found the stone tablet like the one on Route 224 or how Marley even knew about Shaymin. Nor did we ever learn about how Eldritch's son got cursed by Darkrai. To say nothing about Arceus who is a complete anomaly who isn't even mentioned as related to Dialga, Palkia and Giritina nor how the Celestia Ruins somehow depicts its implied summoning. All of these things we can only infer about at the time or by using the anime.
I can't really say it was bad or even average- Everyone loved the Platinum events and they did less than this. I just feel like its nostalgia talking again. Personally I think Gen 5 handled this better- You had separate, unimportant events that are nice side stories. NOT a resolution to an in game plot hook.

I disagree that the DLC was garbage. I loved it. True, some more detail about certain aspects would be nice but I was still able to enjoy the story and interactions. As for the aura around Kieren, might've been caused by something else or maybe it was something leftover from the writers changing their minds about the story. Maybe he was going to be possessed initially but later decided to drop that aspect. Who knows? Can get messy when they do this but at least it wasn't nearly as bad as the whole Dark Energy subplot they were building up in Mass Effect 2 which got completely dropped in Mass Effect 3.

The loyal three came back to life bc of the crystal from the crystal pool. Kieran had that mask/crystal when he did that. Not a aura. He had nothing to do with pecharunt

My guess was that at the start of Kieran's spiral, Pecharunt had probably possessed him without its shell. After all, it started near Peachy's where you're forced to lie to him, and the only time it could return to its shell was when he returned after the Indigo Disk events.
Besides that, the mochi it produces from its shell likely has different possessive properties than it does on its own.

I dont know people, everyones just so angry at peacharunt but like... from what weve seen in the story he makes people chicken danca and thats it, I think Peacharunt isnt evil but chaotic, also probably the loyal three just killed the Ogerpon trainer cause as said, theyre ambitions are amplified alot, so probably after seeing someone in their way they would try to get their goal or what they wanted by any means (I love peacharunt and it could easily my fav mon)

Even though it was short event , Mochi Mayhem still good epilogue for Gen 9 DLC . I liked We could hangout and have adventure with Paldean friends and Kitakami pals (and if doing Club thingy in blueberry academy , it nice interaction we got between Paldean and Bluebrerry friends) . Also , Pecharunt were nice new mythical pokemon and seen it do literal "Mochi Mayhem" in Kitakami village .
I do hope there will one more DLC and that is basically Gradution for the player and nice conclusion for Gen 9.

Arven still feels that he doesn’t have any parents, despite us meeting OG Sada/Turo. He will apparently never forgive them. As for Nemona, just as predicted, rich parents, but still well-mannered herself. I still thought that Rose was Penny’s dad but that “annoying dad” persona is obviously Peony

People always complain mythicals are just given away without any story. And now people are complaining that we got one? Just choose what you want.
