I came here today to pay tribute to Jerry on the 25th anniversary of his passing, just as Bob pays tribute to him through this powerful rendition of Days. May Jerry Garcia’s spirit live on through us in our days between. ☮️🌈🌹💀🐢✌🏼

This is the most heartfelt version of this song I've ever heard. After these past few days of tragedy this song really hits home hard. I'm glad there's so much love out their in our community. It's one of the only things that keeps me going and gives me hope.

@occams99 Bob's 2018 version is a runner up to Jerry's for sure. I do agree that JerBear will always sing with a depth of tragedy that cannot be duplicated, however, Bob I do believe channels his love and loss for his older Brother, giving a clear representation honoring Jerry. As someone once said.. Its like comparing two Sunsets..

The last great Hunter Garcia collaboration before he died. A song so moving, it had brought me to bittersweet tears many times this year with the Deadco shows. And thats saying a lot because I'm a Type-A personality tough cookie and don't cry easily. So that speaks volumes as to how moving this song is and how deeply it touches s a persons soul. THAT is the mark of genius music artistry, NOT some top ten bullshit on a music radio station...

I love the comment that this song was meant FOR Jerry, not to be sung by him. What a beautiful way of looking at it... Bobby, for sure, has grown this song. The version is simply outstanding. It is indeed a dark and loathsome song, most like Wharf Rat. But that was the GD, a band that made you rattle, shout, and shudder. Rob W. sounds phenomenal on this-- another musical soul lost to 2016--RIP. Here's hoping that Bobby is able to continue his search for the "Timeless"...

One of the best versions ever. I know its a Hunter/Garcia tune, but I cosign on it for Bobby. The weight is lifted as well by the late, great Rob Wasserman, and the solid playing of Chimenti, and Lane. A powerful rendition. Only time would have told how this song would have matured over the years had the Man lived. I say its Mother to its Child - China Doll.

this is astonishingly beautiful. I had skipped it so many times scrolling through. wow. I think Jerry's stuff from the end just makes one numb after awhile - it's beautiful - but, also hard to watch/listen to because he's so fucked up and, bluntly speaking, is dying. A lot of that stuff is too hard for me to watch. Bob breathes another life into this haunting gem of a song. it's also sad - look at us all now - we're old people for Christ sake. we can make jokes about it to deflect the pain, but the reality is more like this song.

Sometimes I feel like even Bob doesn't appreciate that he is truly singular. I know that all too frequently the folks mixing and recording didn't appreciate him enough to mix him properly.
The Grateful Dead were what they were because Jerry, Bob, and Phil were not just incredible musicians, but also unique. That alone would have been special: It was, however, their commitment to chemistry that elevated them, all and each, to a place that no one else has ever gone.

Glenn Hall Chances are Bob may be a type A personality, just as I am. And people like us are never satisfied with our acomplishments because of our hard driving need to set thr bar higher and ACHEIVE. This personality type always strives to be the best, so maybe thats why he is so hard on himself sne doesnt see how fabulous he is. It is a gift, and a fault, rolled into one, just like all personality type have strengths and weaknesses

This reminds me of Egypt the way the guitar is mixed so trebly and up front. Those were the days(for me at least)

This song was never meant to be sung BY Jerry... It was meant to be sung IN REMEMBERANCE of Jerry.

Jerry and Robert Hunter wrote this song in 1993. I saw on of the first performances, sung by Jerry of course.

In the sense that it is an ode to Jerry (whether or not it was written and performed before he died). I wonder if Jerry and Hunter ever talked about the meaning of the lyrics.

Jeff R.Since Hunter doesn't like explaining his lyrics, my guess wouldn't be they didn't. But I would also guess they wouldn't have to. Given their long history together, I'm sure Jerry knew exactly what Hunter was writing about. A great song, and it still brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.

It's not about Jerry at all. It was written by Hunter AND Garcia. Two years before that fateful day in 1995.
Here's a note from David Dodd:
“Achingly nostalgic, ‘Days Between’ evokes the past. The music climbs laboriously out of shadows, growing and peaking with each verse, only to fall back each time in hopeless resignation. When Jerry sings the line ‘when all we ever wanted / was to learn and love and grow’ or ‘gave the best we had to give / how much we’ll never know,’ I am immediately transported decades back in time, to a beautiful spring morning with Jerry, Hunter, Barbara Meier, and Alan Trist-all of us goofing on the sheer exhilaration of being alive. I don’t know whether to weep with joy at the beauty of the vision or with sadness at the impassable chasm of time between the golden past and the often painful present.”
Miss you, Jerry. Thanks for the dream.
And thank you, Bobby.... for carrying it forward.

As a practicing Jew, the lyrics are perfect for Kol Nidre. I might introduce it to my shul this year. Does anyone know the name of this bassist?
