"Most of you listening probably assume that the best of Yurik had been and gone...that he had wrung the water from the stone--but he hadn't. Greatness is, indeed, measured by the height of the peak, but legends are measured by the number of peaks--by the size of the mountain range."
Take a bow, Seb. Always knew you were a poet, but you've outdone yourself here.
Thanks Wes, I’m pleased that I was able to get it out right
That was so good it deserved to be highlighted in the comments!
Growing up behind the iron curtain as native Armenian in 70s and 80s he was an iconic legend we all looked up to him and wanted to be like him. Thank you for this wonderful video and biography of Yurik Vardanya. I truly enjoy watching.
My lifting coach had Yurik's sequence posted in our gym to show proper technique. My coach was Istvan Javorek. .
Seb, this work is epic. If this doesn’t motivate someone to lift I don’t know what will. You and your team did a fantastic job on this!
You should do one on Yury Zakharevich. He may not be the goat by Sinclair or total, but his records of 210/250.5/455 as a non super aren’t talked about enough
Well he's the third greatest in history by sinclair, so I guess he should follow next.
This. Zak was TRUELY amazing and his hair was very un-Soviet at the time :)
I mean when we look at non-supers doing 240 CJs then we are in true rare territory and then find me non-supers snatching 200+.
Hell, find me (many) supers doing 200+ in snatch. And he did WAY more than that!
What is a "non super"?
@@SilencedButNotForgotten nonsuper = weightlifter that doesn't compete in the super heavyweight class. At the time of Zak, supers were 110+kg. He was in the 110kg class.
@@maco1985 ahhh, I see!
One of my original weightlifting heroes. Amazing replays. Fantastic tribute to the second greatest Sinclair of all time and one of the best athletes the world has ever seen.
The most impressive thing for me is that he actually made the 230kg clean after already breaking a world record and gone through 6 made attempts. No one else would do that
A true hero and inspiration for all Armenians 🇦🇲

Fantastic job Weightlifting House. Keep it up.
Thank you for the video. Felt nostalgic. I remember his triumph at Moscow olympics. True LEGEND!
I LOVE THESE STORIES KEEP THEM COMING!!
I can’t thank you enough for the work that you have put in to these documentaries. You shed light on things we would have never known and are keeping the history of our (fragile) sport alive. All of this makes me want to be a better person and lifter. Thanks dude.
An incredible summary & collage of videos. Caps off to you Sir and this channel.
Loving these videos! The stats are insane 👌🏻
This was awe-inspiring, great job on educating about such greatness seb
I love these documentaries, very well done!!
Thanks for this awesome vid seb !
Thank you for this Seb. You have done amazingly.
Great quality of document thank you a lot !
Thanks again Sen for such amazing content
Thank you for this. Probably one of your best videos imo. 100/10
No words. Fantastic. I LOVE these shorts about individual lifters.
This is incredible - thank you for this. Would also love to see you do an interview with his son Norik discussing his father's training programming.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Keep the content coming. Vardanian was THE MAN! when I started in 1983.I appreciate the love these weightlifting legends are getting.
This is truly great content, keep it coming !! 👌🏽
Absolutely brilliant video, thank you from us all! -Ryan
Amazing content, thanks.
You did an amazing job on this. All of these type of videos you have done have been great, this one is my favorite so far. Before this one, my favorite was the one you did on Aramnau.
What a great video with excellent commentary. Great job!
You've outdone yourself with the production on this one, incredible story.
These videos are so enjoyable to watch great work
Love this documentary style videos!
Just got my Naim poster! Loving this series!! Thanks Seb
This was the best one yet!!! Love the story at the end. I got chills!
I’m so pleased!
Same on the chills.
thank you so much for this masterpiece of a video
Dude's givin' Super Sayian vibes fr......that 160 cold snatch story with him training in his mind; that's some Vegeta shit right there. Imagine if he had some gymnastic training as well.....best athlete in recorded human history easy.
Dude's seriously inspirational and intense as fuck.
You're describing a cartoon to a real person?
This mans technique is just a thing of beauty
So fascinating a documentary. This man has, or had, a mindset and belief in himself that is unparalleled. His training, including mental training, including great talent in many other sports, makes him virtually unique.
Much gratitude for the great job in making this video. What a shame that he died at the early age of 62. What a shame that he missed three Olympic competitions! Learning about him will change my life.
Yuri Vardanian had the longest standing long jump ever recorded of 13 ft.
@@user-jv7ue7ic9w No, because Vardanyan was already a high level track and field athlete before he became a weightlifter.
Brilliant video..one of my favourite lifters. His speed was ridiculous.
Beautiful Narration. Well done WH!
always great seeing athletes excel in different sports
Amazing. Great story, WLH!
Seb this documentary is a masterpiece. It & he inspired me to become a weightlifter. I now total 210 kg @ 85 kg after 4 months of training. Thank you.
These videos are honestly just so amazing, they actually make me emotional. Also... please tell me the Yurik posters aren't limited edition, I just bought the Naim one and can't afford this one rn 😭😭
That old mantra about front squatting for 3 = cleaning; it is wise. I've lifted for years without a rack, doing cleans into front squats. Builds great strength whilst remaining mobile and flexible. Yurik's 1 front squat = a clean; is beast mentality.
Love these!! Doing a class project on Naim after watching that video
Beautiful video
This video actually inspires my meditation practice
Superb Seb! I was lucky enough to watch his battle with Zlatev at the worlds in Moscow in 1983. Incredible vocal and partisan support from Armenian contingent. Great days! You should do Rigert - a fantastic lifter and character.
Great video, Seb.
That was really excellent

Great, great, i am speechless.
Fenomenally put together! Great commentary. My deepest respect goes to this giant of weightlifting, as well as to Blagoev and others GOATS.
Would love to see you cover some of Angel Genchev's (BUL) lifts/stories. His 202.5 clean and jerk at 67.5kg bw and many more amazing lifts, despite all the controversies etc.
Awesome👌
Just like Naim - a weightlifting household name, but one that I knew nothing about. These videos are top drawer.
Thank you, Conor
Sick thumbnail, Seb! I wouldn’t have clicked if t wasn’t for the sleek and enticing design
What a fantastic story!
Thank you.
Incredible!
Thank you Brother!
Who the hell are those 2 dislikes. Like what? Seb, this is one of the best videos this channel has brought to us.
Pyrros Dimas fan boys
Thanks! As for the surname, Armenian surnames are stressed by the last syllable: VardanyAn
Wow!He was outstanding.
Thanks for playing traditional Armenian music in the background. Love ur videos, man. All the best from sunny Armenia.
This is so good.
This gave me chills
Second Heaviest Sincliar in WeightLifting 🏋♂
Nice. It's good to make one about Vasily Alekseyev also. Sometimes I'm thinking, we can't really compare him to the other super heavyweights, because he was doing the press as well. Maybe he was the strongest of them all...
Well done Seb

You should release a matching tshirt with every episode as well. For someone with more closet than wall space that would be ideal!

@@WeightliftingHouse Garage gym is gonna be looking lit!
This is one of the most badass things I have ever seen.
International legend!
Guy was amazing!!!!!!
Great Video Essay. I’d like to see more. Have you heard of Tommy Suggs?
"If I can front squat it, I can clean & jerk it" absolute fucking gigachad
"Hearts on Fire" needs to be played at the beginning of this video showing him training
Aye Yuri jan!!
Do one with ilya ilyin!!
@Weightlifting House Could you do something like this on Leonid Taranenko? I think he once held the record for the heaviest c&j.
Legend🙏👍👍👍👍👍👍
i tried to find this guy a year ago, and for the life of me i could not spell his name. thank you for your service seb lol
Best athlete ever
those dangerously sexy singlets of the 70's and 80's remind me I was born in the wrong era
Hell yeah! I'll take a sexy 70s singlet all day long!!
