    Growing up behind the iron curtain as native Armenian in 70s and 80s he was an iconic legend we all looked up to him and wanted to be like him. Thank you for this wonderful video and biography of Yurik Vardanya. I truly enjoy watching.

    My lifting coach had Yurik's sequence posted in our gym to show proper technique. My coach was Istvan Javorek. .

    You should do one on Yury Zakharevich. He may not be the goat by Sinclair or total, but his records of 210/250.5/455 as a non super aren’t talked about enough

      This. Zak was TRUELY amazing and his hair was very un-Soviet at the time :)
      I mean when we look at non-supers doing 240 CJs then we are in true rare territory and then find me non-supers snatching 200+.
      Hell, find me (many) supers doing 200+ in snatch. And he did WAY more than that!

      @@SilencedButNotForgotten nonsuper = weightlifter that doesn't compete in the super heavyweight class. At the time of Zak, supers were 110+kg. He was in the 110kg class.

      The most impressive thing for me is that he actually made the 230kg clean after already breaking a world record and gone through 6 made attempts. No one else would do that

    So fascinating a documentary. This man has, or had, a mindset and belief in himself that is unparalleled. His training, including mental training, including great talent in many other sports, makes him virtually unique.
    Much gratitude for the great job in making this video. What a shame that he died at the early age of 62. What a shame that he missed three Olympic competitions! Learning about him will change my life.

    That old mantra about front squatting for 3 = cleaning; it is wise. I've lifted for years without a rack, doing cleans into front squats. Builds great strength whilst remaining mobile and flexible. Yurik's 1 front squat = a clean; is beast mentality.

    Superb Seb! I was lucky enough to watch his battle with Zlatev at the worlds in Moscow in 1983. Incredible vocal and partisan support from Armenian contingent. Great days! You should do Rigert - a fantastic lifter and character.

    Fenomenally put together! Great commentary. My deepest respect goes to this giant of weightlifting, as well as to Blagoev and others GOATS.
    Would love to see you cover some of Angel Genchev's (BUL) lifts/stories. His 202.5 clean and jerk at 67.5kg bw and many more amazing lifts, despite all the controversies etc.

      Согласен у каждого свои природные особенности поэтому техника зависит от этих особенностей подрыв у него особенный за счёт спины толчок с груди тоже особенный штанга вроде находится и впереди и вроде бы как нормально Хотя толкать надо за голову В общем природные способности имеют большое значение главное использовать свои сильные стороны

      @@user-jv7ue7ic9w все именно так, личные природные данные формируют индивидуальный способ поднятия штанги при одной теории (механики). Надо учитывать, что кто-то имеет более сильные ноги, чем спину и наоборот. Поэтому соглашусь с вами у Юрия более кажется выражена спина особенно в рывке. Недавно смотрел А.Арямнова так он вовсе на старте немного как бы сваливается (в рывке) на носки гляньте как-нибудь, так делают как он единицы. Как он сам говорит, так фаза подведения в подрыв эффективнее, плюс важнее спина так как рычаг по более, чем на ногах.

      @@user-dh1ue9sh9o Да согласен я обратил на это внимание он даже снимает спиной Варданян всё-таки снимает ногами в момент подрыва надо стоять на полной стопе а не на носках потому что Если стоишь на носках подрыв будет слабее всё-таки в технике есть какие-то низыблемые правила от которых нельзя отступать

      @@user-jv7ue7ic9w спасибо за ответ. Пусть слабее , но во первых, это только кажется, во вторых противоречит теории рывка, но при этом он взял золото ОИ-2008 не учитывая ЧМ и ЧЕ. Нивелировать силой технику также не удастся, за все это мы с вами и любим ТА. Если легкая атлетика королева, то тяжелая-император. Вы лично тренируетесь со штангой?
