Still gives me same chills as it did back in 78...and brings to mind the girl I had to love from a distance. It is so great to hear a singer that is better live than on recording...a rare talent, esp today.
A truly unique artist. Particularly her first three albums Rickie Lee Jones, Pirates and Magazine, I still play to this day, from beginning to end, one after the other. Not a bad track on any of them. Truly beautiful and unique artist.
This entire album is superb. Have a listen to Last Chance Texaco or Saturday Afternoons in 1963 or Danny's All-Star Joint... Brilliant. I bought this cassette tape as a teenager and was so impressed how every song spoke to me. Years later I also bought the CD and still have it.
Thank You RLJ, I found you at 3am during Covid. Trapped at home 6 months now and have lost track of day and night. This comforts my soul. Sincerity, humbleness and such a disposition.
Rickie is always adorable. We all had a crush on her or she had the girls thinking about their crush. If we could go back to 1979 and get to love the people we were so fortunately to love through the years.
She has the most amazing way of riding beats differently than most people. On Both the Original song and this Version. It's so not typical and stands out and sounds amazing
I luv hearing the back story on songs. I also luv how artist can take something that happens everyday in life and write a story and then turn the story into a song. Everyone has a story, waiting to be told.
In a magical time when wizards walked the electric hi ways of our radios I attended a small venue in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio featuring Ricky and Old Tom Waits. Amazing
marvelously talented. needs more views & world recognition.MY FEET & HEART KEEP ON TAPPING TO HER STRUM BEATS. MY BRAIN IS LIFTED BY HER WORDS, OPENING "POSSIBILITIES" OF LIFE(I AM A WRITER/PLAYER TOO).
@@deborahaviles708 sounds like Linda Perry yet Linda has kept on keeping on. Yet ricki lee Jones is so talented, smoooove to listen to.... Just great. I wish she did so much more because her music, voice, beat, style ... Her whole package is so unique and aesthetically pleasing to experience.
@@deborahaviles708 One hit? She had many more than that, and this entire album is superb. Have a listen to Last Chance Texaco or Saturday Afternoons in 1963 or Danny's All-Star Joint... Brilliant. I bought this cassette tape as a teenager and was so impressed how every song spoke to me. Years later I also bought the CD and still have it.
I was born in 1952. I got it all! (imagine walking to the record store because a new Beatles album was coming out and not knowing what the hell you were going to get!)
I just have to add... I was born in 1970 yet about 6 years ago reopened my mind and stopped relying on familiarity. I found enlightenment because there is fantastic music being made in every main genre and now all these new categories and subgenres. I only wish I had infinite lifetimes to go back to listen to all I've heard before, trip the light back to so many decades past that I ignored and to revel in all the fantastical new. :-) it's taken me 49 years to stop being a music snob and to open my mind - and it's great!
OMT to you both born in 69 and 52... The change from LPs to even 45s, then cassette singles...then mp3s really has changed everything. We used to buy albums but that in large part has morphed to a la carte picks... We used to put the record, 8 track or 78rpm on and didn't stop with one song. For me, in general, the one song I'd buy a album/CD for quickly or over time became my least favorite. I had a CD for 5 years that I'd play in a 5 disc changer and I'd program only the one song. Then one day I screwed up the numbers and discovered one of my favorite musicians of my life. It's just rare these days for ... I think ... most ppl to ever listen to discographies and hidden in them are some of the greatest songs... B-sides if you will.
RLJ is one talent that CAME OUT when it was HER TIME. She was IT at the time of THE PARAMETER that she was destined. A lot of talents miss the window, but still have success, just not as much as they could have if they had waited, or hurried up. In ways life is the same.
Great song takes me back to a good time we had a kid in my neighborhood just moved in trouble maker his name was Chuckie the whole neighborhood beat him up one day lol
National music treasure! Today, I asked a teen working at Starbucks if she knew who Stevie Wonder was. No! I asked if she had heard Chuck E's in love! Bingo! Wow!
i saw her live at the rainbow music hall in the denver suburb might have been aurora? anyway she was really great and really high, i think, too, as we all were in the late 60's early 70's culture. it was maybe more like early 80's when she made it to Colorado she was still playing that song as it was a big hit.
Such a beautiful speaking voice. "Little Fluffy Clouds" really shows her voice off and she played a PERFECT southern 1960s mom in a gay themed movie called "Dream Boy". My favorite recording of her's is a cover of Jefferson Airplane's "Commin' Back to Me" It will break your heart.
One of the best songs ever written!!!
Fell in love with Rikki all over again. Nobody like this American original. ❤️
Perfect song, sung perfectly. Thanks, Rickie. Styling.
Miss the beret - but wow! Still amazing after all these years
there's a pure TALENT here and it's so rare.
Still gives me same chills as it did back in 78...and brings to mind the girl I had to love from a distance. It is so great to hear a singer that is better live than on recording...a rare talent, esp today.
I loved this song back then and still love this song now.
Thank you Ms RLJ
As a teen in the 70s loving AM 📻 radio I say Today's music is Goat 🐐 tripe😂
Just wow. Such a class act. Loved her music since 1979 and still do.
A truly unique artist. Particularly her first three albums Rickie Lee Jones, Pirates and Magazine, I still play to this day, from beginning to end, one after the other. Not a bad track on any of them. Truly beautiful and unique artist.
Hard to get the song out of your head as the song and music never grows old, Ricki Lee Jones, you rock..
My favourite song of all time just got better. Thank you CZcams

Rickie is always adorable. We all had a crush on her or she had the girls thinking about their crush. If we could go back to 1979 and get to love the people we were so fortunately to love through the years.
Rickie Lee Jones, you still got it. Better than ever. Just like good wine, finer with time.
Amazing and lovely. She always was.

I wasn't expecting to get chills then cry... The creator of the video did a fantastic job.
Chuck E. Weiss knew everybody back then, then the whole world knew his name!
This is it. A Musician.from planet Earth indeed.
