The first atomic bomb, nicknamed “Little Boy”, detonated over Japan was dropped by the Boeing B-29 Superfortress “Enola Gay” on the manufacturing city of Hiroshima 6 August 1945, at approximately 08:16. With a flash of electromagnetic radiation, an overpressure shockwave of 34 kPa (5 psi), and temperatures in excess of 6,000 C (10,830 F), the bomb decimated everything within a 1.75km (1.1mi) radius of the blast center. The shells of approximately 50 heavily reinforced, earthquake-resistant concrete structures were all that remained standing in the aftermath of the explosion. Hiroshima’s devastation failed to elicit immediate Japanese surrender therefore three days later the second atomic bomb, nicknamed “Fat Man”, was detonated over Japan. Dropped by the Boeing B-29 Superfortress “Bockscar” on the industrial city of Nagasaki 9 August 1945, at approximately 11:02. At noon on 15 August 1945, Emperor Hirohito announced his county’s unconditional surrender.

I remember when I was very young, my science teacher told my class about the nuclear bomb.
"It explodes, and whoever is too close to the point of explosion immediately ceases to exist. Then when the mushroom cloud reaches whoever else, their skin melts. There is no discrimination, it is just death."
That terrified me. I never want to know how it feels to be affected by a nuclear bomb.

What's scary is that this wasn't the original plan for Japan. The original plan was to drop 12 atomic bombs. Instead they surrendered while a 3rd bomb was on its way to Tokyo

I’m impressed that you include the visual of Japanese training with bamboo spear. For a fascist state at the end of war, the veil between soldier and citizen is very thin. But bamboo spear can’t defeat nuclear weapon, and the emperor didn’t tell them that. No one was innocent under the nuclear fire.
the children were. i watched a doc once that interviewed survivors and one woman stuck out.... a mother who recalled how she lost a child after the bomb was dropped all she could do was listen as her house burned down and her little girl who was trapped inside screamed that the fire was burning her. the girl was not even 10 if i recall ri9ght she might have been 8 or younger.

You've got it mixed up. The American battle line (i.e., the big gun cruisers and battleships) were stationed at Pearl Harbor; the carriers were on their way to join them, but didn't arrive until after the attack.
Thus America's traditional 'battle line' was sunk at port and the carriers were the only significant combat force in the Pacific until they could be replaced, leading to them chasing Yamato's fleet to Midway, and America's naval doctrine being re-centered around the carriers, because that is alll that was available at the time.

Considering most of Japan's armed forces were pinned or destroyed elsewhere and the US expected to fight a ligjtly armed civilian populace, how many medals do you think were made? How many civilians would have to be killed for every wounded allied soldier before the Japanese government was expectwed to surrender, with the knowledge of the decisionmakers of the time?
We ran out of the Purple hearts that were minted in expectation of Operation Downfall less than ten years ago. That's right, through Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan, we were still issuing medals to our wounded that were minted in 1945.
The nukes were damn clean end to the war, compared to the next alternative that we had lined up.

Genuine question for anyone who might know. So the song title is Nuclear Attack, but is about when the US dropped the two atomic bombs. Are A Bombs and Nuclear Bombs the same thing just different names?
Yes. Atomic bombs (A-bombs) are nuclear weapons. They work by exploiting a runaway nuclear decay of heavy radioactive elements. They are the weakest kind of nuclear weapon.
You might be confused because of the difference between these 'fission' weapons (fission = breaking apart) and later 'fusion' waepons (H-bombs or thermonuclear bombs) which use an initial fission reaction to kickstart a violent burst of nuclear fusion of small elements, which is orders of magnitude more energetic.
