Movie: Tabaruzaka (1987) / Tobu ga gotoku (1990) In the "Seinan war(西南戦争)", not fighting armor warrior samurai. "The Last Samurai (2003)" is the story of a fictional.
@2:35 total goosebumps.. That character is based general Hasegawa of the last samurai... He didnt want to fight the samurai and bring shame to his ppl.. But when his duty as a soldier for his emperor came into question he went into the battle
"Realism", ah yes the infamous realistic moshpit formation and the utter and absolute lack of formation, cohesion and discipline, clearly realistic, the samurai using katana as their primary weapon instead of naginatas or rifles at this point quite realistic in Lalaland that is. Plus the cringe hollywoodesc disorganized "charges" which resemble nothing how a formation would actually have "charged" another, which would be while maintaining the formation rank and file has cohesive and together has possible not running individually like madman. This is not a plague in series/movies alone but aswell of the atrocities called "documentaries" which are almost always by far the worst offenders.
@@alexmag342 #1 If you actually watch the video, you would see that both forces have rifles and cannons, they are both using them, the Satsuma forces only switched to thier Katanas when fighting infantry or when they ran out of ammo. #2 The Naginata, while it was still used through the Boshin War, it was a very outdated weapon that was also not a weapon used in large numbers either. Both the Katana and the Naginata were both outshined and outnumbered by the Yari Spear (if you watched the video, you'd see multiple people using the Yari) which saw way more use than the Naginata even during Sengoku Jidai. Also note, this show takes place during the Satsuma Rebellion which was after The Boshin War. #3 The reason why I said this was realistic was because of the general uniformity of the troops compared to other media like Tom Cruise' 'The Last Samurai'. I know they don't have any kind of general structure and are disorganized because, surprise surprise, it's a TV show.
@@HellCorps And that is actually accurate as well. Quite a few Satsuma Samurai chose to dawn their traditional armor but many chose to stick with newer advantages of modern military uniforms so many just stuck with the newer militaristic look and advantages of modern uniforms as the Satsuma were very open to modernization just not at the cost of the Samurai. One modernization effort consisted of Revolver Cavalry and reformation and modernization of the Navy, even Saigo himself loved his revolvers.
No, the battlefield of the Meiji Restoration was from Kyoto to eastern Japan. This is a rebellion of the samurai who rebelled against the new system 10 years after the Meiji Restoration.

@@dogwoodhillbilly Both samurai armour and modern uniform at the same time, I like the Satsuma Domain too much than Tokugawa
