Every single time it happens against the Cats.....They come prepared for a war, while we meekly submit, ad nauseum.....Sick of it Sam.....You've been pantsed by Scott more times than I care to remember already.
I'm sick of watching the Cats harass us around the ball with numbers for the first ten-fifteen minutes and we spend the rest of the game playing as if we've got hardcore pressure. When will Hawthorn learn this tactic is what Geelong does every damn time. Jai Newconbe was unable to mark so many times because he was expecting heavy contact when there was none coming. Connor Nash don't have one single touch possession all night. He fumbled and handed the ball back every time he was near the ball, we over ran the ball and gave so many goals to Geelong due to poor ball use. Who the hell goes to Geelong and thinks that kicking down those tiny wings is a good option? There's no space out there. You've got to be brave and go straight up the guts. And where were the leaders? Who stood up last night? No one looked like a leader to me. We lose Sicily and all of a sudden our backline goes to water. Useless!! One player does not make that much difference. Or SHOULDN'T!! Mitch Lewis is super lazy with his running patterns. Without him we were having no problems kicking goals. He comes back in and all of a sudden we don't look for anyone but him and that stuffs up the way we've been playing for months. And what a surprise ...he limps off injured again. Now, don't get me wrong, he should've gotten a free kick for that head knock. There was nothing innocuous about that hit. It was high and should've earned a free. But the amount of 'grass guarding' I saw the Hawks players doing after are time was telling. That's Sam Mitchell going into his shell and not knowing how to coach his way out of a tough situation. We should've gone hard core man on lan footy after that first break and made every Geelong player earn every touch. Instead we were guarding patches of turf and allowing them to pick their way through our bruise free tactic. Pathetic football and Sam Mitchell being out coached once again by a fella who has beaten the Hawks nearly every time he's coached against us. Chris Scott must just laugh to himself when he sees a game against Hawthorn coming up. I effing hate losing to those mugs from Geelong more than anything else but I hate seeing us put no effort in to make those buggers earn their win. We just roll over and let them belt us every damn time. It's a weak mind at Hawthorn when Geelong come into the equation. Not tough enough and a forward line that added a tall who doesn't work hard enough to deserve to play senior footy.
Not enough effort and a disappointing result. It was a challenge though, and the lack of Sicily (especially), Ginni and Dear was really visible. Hopefully we get them in next week and improve our game a lot in UTAS 🤎💛
