    I've never had a single issue with the 4 thread heads. Just have to torque your plugs to spec, and you're golden. People launching plugs out the heads are more than likely cross threading the plug into the soft aluminum, even with 9 threads thats a recipe for disaster.

    • @MikesGarageRoute66
      @MikesGarageRoute66  Před 2 lety +5

      I completely agree. 144 inch pounds and you are golden when installing new plugs. A lot of people either didn't use a torque wrench or they used one that is on foot pounds that wasn't accurate at the lower readings. Thank you very much for watching!

      @MikesGarageRoute66  Před 2 lety +1

      First I want to thank you for watching. I really appreciate it. On your 96 Cobra there are a lot of things you can do. For more power I would recommend a small amount of boost. Pound for pound it is the best investment. Centrifugal is probably the cheapest and most reliable power to add. Then stay around 5 to 6 pounds of boost. The other option is a 2.1 Kenne Bell which is also a really good option (personally I like the Kenne Bell). The key is not to get greedy with boost and enjoy the Cobra for what it is, a Great Car!

      Hi Mark, there is a huge difference in the Intake. The 03/04 Cobra has no runner length which is actually hurts hp. The better manifold is the Mach 1/ Marauder, but it can be improved by having it turned into a short runner. Richard Holdener did a really good video on power adders for the Cobra and you can see the difference runner length makes. czcams.com/video/h4OHdC3nAFk/video.html

    I had heard or read that there were actually 2 different pistons made for the 03 cobra. They changed from one to the other sometime during production. My cousin wants to put a short block from an aviator in his 5 speed Mach 1 as a replacement. Just a 6 bolt flywheel is all he would need I assume?

    Things I were not aware of: The JE Pistons and being able to get on par with the coyote's but with an even stronger block. Also when you mentioned the 96-98 cams and how you can pick up power over the 03/04 cobra cams. Makes me wonder why more people do not go this route. Maybe because custom grind or comp just make that much more over the 96-98 cams? Also I've always wanted a rod from an 03/04 cobra and I know you wouldn't separate the set but I would be interested in the set of them as well. Let me know what you would want for them, I have a lot on my plate as far as what I'm already buying for the Cobra for mods but if its something I can swing I'd be interested in them.

      Since the last time I commented on one of your videos I purchased another 2004 Mach 1. I still have my previous 2004 Azure Blue (bone stock), but this time the “new” 2004 I bought has just a hair over 66k and it’s been completely built as a dedicated NMRA car. Previous owner was retiring from the service and couldn’t take the car with him so he gave me a deal I couldn’t refuse 😂
      It’s been on a Dynojet and it pushed 717rwhp/663tq on 93 pump gas with 14 pounds of boost from the 2.9 Whipple. The engine has been entirely forged by a builder locally and then everything was dialed in over at Premier Performance down in SLC. It’s on the stock heads (although I think they have been modded in some way) as well as the original WAP block.
      I’d always heard folks say that the TEKSID block was the only way to go (and I know it’s a great block) but it seems the WAP block can handle some power too. This current engine build has barely over a few thousand miles on it. It’s terrifying to say the least.
      My biggest issue with the car currently is to get the front coilovers squared away, they make all kinds of popping noises when turning (I think they might be missing the bearing that goes in between the coils) as well as the fact that it scrapes everything. I’m going to see if maybe the rear coils need new isolators….maybe raise it up just enough without changing coils (Eibach Sportlines is what it has).
      As for the Azure Blue, it needs freshening up….it has 128k and it’s all stock. It lived the life of a daily driver that was never garage kept. The suspension is TIRED. Some other things need changed to make it smooth again too……but my goal is to get it back into fighting shape and cruise it. Cheers Mike and thanks for all that you do. E85 do 10:1, if you need 93 octaine you will have to have the compression much lower and HP will be limited. Besides that new bearings and upgraded oil pump. • @MikesGarageRoute66
      @MikesGarageRoute66  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for watching. With 130k you may notice more piston slap when cold, the rocking motion accelerates the wear on the piston skirt and ring lands. Symptoms can be oil burning, but that can also be oil from the valve guide seals as well. The best way to check is a compression check. If the difference between the highest and lowest cylinder is more then 10 percent, then the lowest cylinders are weak. You can then put a little oil in the cylinder to see if it jumps up, that means rings if it does. An alternative is a leak down test. Chances are with 130k miles a compression check will show the engine has some age.

      The manual had a Kellogg forged crank, the auto had a cast crank. Both engines had the same weak rods that were in the 96-01 Cobras, Marauder, and Aviator. Only the 03/04 Cobras had Forged Manly rods. Thank you for watching!
