  • I got my hands on a 2004 Mustang Mach 1 in Competition Orange. The power in this car is still impressive for how old it is but the suspension setup really dates the car. Enjoy the video!

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles but just serious power planted to the pavement. The wiggle may need to be adjusted. I know I have mine planted and can hug corners like crazy. A true 150+ / 13 second car that is streetable enough to be driven regularly with more than enough internally to back up the looks. A stock one in a few years will still be enjoyable and they aren't building any more...

      @michaelharris748 Před 6 lety

      +Christian macTavish I would guess it probably has a cold air intake pulley long tubes offroad mid and catback maybe 96-98 cobra intake cams and real solid tune. I've seen plenty of them with similar mods putting down 330-340 wheel you can also do a ported short runner and get 10 or so more and it shifts the power up slightly which really works nicely with low gears 410 and lower...these cars have to have 410 or lower I'd do 430-456 if you're planning to stay na. like he said you really need to be in the mid to upper rpm range to really feel irs power band...throw 430-456 gears in one and drive it and come back and talk to me...they're very mean cars for the power they put down. it's very common for these cars to break 11s na with steep gears and sticky tires and stiff suspension.

    Mine has a few suspension mods and 275 front and 315 rear tires and it's an awesome handler on curvy back roads. I wonder if the one you drove had a worn rear suspension? How many miles were on it? Ford from what I remember tuned the Mach's stock suspension to be a little more floaty like the original 60s Mach 1 to help them transfer weight to the rear a little better.

    The 4V motor in the 03/04 Machs definitely come alive above 4 grand. It feels like a completely different engine when you rev it up. I think when you say "it's all over the place" is just the solid rear axel? If you hammer it, it'll get a little loose. Learning to automatically correct that is an important driving skill. It's not supposed to be all over the road if you're not breaking the tires loose? Maybe tire or suspension problems on that particular vehicle?
    Good vid though, I'll check your other stuff out. Thanks!

    • @Gjeebs
      @Gjeebs  Před 6 lety

      When I say it’s all over the place I was more talking about the suspension being a little out of tune, the seat does not keep you in place and the front end would lift when you accelerate. It was just very different from what I drive that’s all. Not a bad thing. Let me know what you think of my other vids!

    Best thing if staying na and bolt on is 456 gears no it's not too low you wanna stay in the powerband and have that umph around town you said wasn't there that's it if going forced induction then 410-430 depending on boost levels. If you're running crazy power and trapping over 125 in the quarter you might wanna go 373. Otherwise they need a MINIMUM of 410 I'm personally going 456 on my next one with bolt on and 96-98 cobra cams degreed with bigs and littles and over 400 lbs in weight reduction and suspension mods and sticky rear tires etc. I'd like to go deep in the 12s or high 11s with bolt ons. It's very relavant. One of these with 400 lbs removed (not that hard at all and still very streetable) only weighs 3000 lbs compared to 3600-3800 lbs for the newer coyote cars. I've seen a bolt on cobra cam Mach do 350 whp on an e85 tune and at 3000 lbs that's more than enough to take down stock coyotes and even bolt on coyotes unless they've been on a serious diet themselves. I love the Mach one people that know what they are respect and people who don't know mustangs usually think it's just another na 2v gt lol.

      How much does highway mileage hurt with taller gears?

    • @michaelharris748
      @michaelharris748 Před 6 lety

      +Alex Melia I know this is an old comment but gears don't hurt highway mpg that much. my mach 1 would get like 26-27 mpg on the highway with stock 3.55 gears and full bolt on...my old 97 cobra had a similar 4v engine and 4.10 gears I was able to average just under 25 mpg on a nearly 200 mile trip cruise on ac blasting. I'm betting I could average minimum of 23 mpg highway with 456 gears possibly even higher. the mach 1 has a slightly taller 5th gear ratio than the 96-98 cobra did so rpm ride around a couple hundred less on the highway vs the early cobras so even with 456 gears the mach would probably tach at or below 3k at 70-75 mph on the highway. if I get another mach which is a strong possibility it won't be my daily I will get a clean low mile car and it'll be my nice day and weekend cruiser and my straight line car (I have a 16 fiesta st for the twisties and to serve as a daily). it's not a big deal if my highway mpg is lower in the stang because I get well beyond 30 on the highway with my st even on e30.

      @@kennordsfan1494, oxford white is the fourth rarest. First is screaming yellow. Second is zinc yellow. Third is competition orange. Oxford white was the rarest in each year but because the other colors were only produced for one year they are rarer than oxford white.

    You need to educate yourself a little more about the car and its value. Also its meant to go fast in a straight line not back curvy roads, its a muscle car not a sports car.

    I'm going to also going to jump on you for a poor, woefully uninformed review. I own the same car, 2004 Mustang Mach 1, 40th anniversary Edition in Competition Orange, 5 speed manual transmission. I've owned brand new Cobras, '67 Camaro SS convertible, SS Impala, ZO6 Corvette, on and on. The Mach 1 with the Terminator engine is an absolute blast to drive, with most certainly under reported horse power and torque values. These are part of Fords "Heritage Series" cars produced to include the Mustang Bullitt and the Mercury Marauder. The Mach 1's, especially the 2004's are considered collector cars and are getting extremely hard to find in clean, unabused condition. The Competition Orange was only offered in one year, 2004 and is now being sought out by collectors. I have never had one issue of control in my Mach1, along with a B&M Ripper shifter and a brass shifter bushing, rowing gears is easy and effortless. A performance tune, a CAI and a cat back exhaust system frees up a LOT of lost power and the acceleration rate is phenomenal. Most certainly there are much faster cars on the road but by sheer rarity, none much more rare then one of these for sure. Mine has the following: K&N CAI, ceramic headers, Bassani X pipe, sub-frame connectors, Stage 2 clutch with Ford racing bushings, B&M ripper shifter, JDM racing custom pro-tune, Eibach street/strip 4 wheel complete suspension kit, Koni ST/R orange struts/shocks, Bilstein rear axle wrap shocks, Accel high performance spark coils, E3 spark plugs, SLP shotgun resonators going into a 3 inch Magnaflow stainless exhaust system. I have had my ass handed to me by a friends tuned Hemi Scat Pack Challenger, but I have also beaten many cars as well. These are just a ton of fun to own, tune and drive so if your thinking of getting one do it quickly as the value of these are definitely going up. Happy miles!

    Really??? If you’re complaining how the Mach 1 handles then maybe you should start taking the bus because I can name a very long and distinguished list of cars that you’re probably more into that handles way worse than a Mach 1!

      Mached You are you running aftermarket or bond stock? Also it depends on the driver.

      Alpha Bet it’s all individual taste. I think the new one looks like a Fusion coupe and my ideal Mustang is an 05-09 GT/CS with a Coyote swap.

      When I first saw the new Mustang I thought the Thunderbird returned. The car is big enough.
