Larry Nixon was my favorite fisherman growing up I watched his show everytime
Larry is truly the favourite of many of us
Ahhhhhh the fun times back then. I was fortunate to be selected by lottery to fish the amateur side of several BASS top 100/150. I drew KVD at Lake Seminole and one practice morning at Buggs Island ate breakfast with Larry Nixon Tommy Martin, Paul Elias and several others. They all treated me like they knew me for years. Great memories. Thanks Dave for reminding me of that with your podcast.

I met Kevin when I fished a Bassmaster Pro Am on Lake Seminole. I believe it was 1995 and we fished out of Wingates Lunker Lodge. Jack Wingate was a great guy and those who have never met him he was one of a kind. I was lucky enough to be rooming with Chet Douthit who I knew from fishing at Lake Okeechobee and we ate dinner one night with these guys who are legends of the sport. A great experience for sure !!
I idolized every one of those early pro anglers KVD mentioned. I also idolized KVD after he won that big tourney by flooding his boat to get into a creek nobody else thought to fish, and left the spot early just because of the time it took to flood and bilge all that water out again, and get to the weigh in on time!! Great ol'days!
I would be freaked out if I met Vandam , Mercer , Linder ect
Freaked out, is when you fish against them.

He was one of many that did. Also a legendary angler

A friend and I were at an expo in Richmond watching a pro demo and Larry Nixon comes up behind us. We turned around and had short conversations with him. He was a very polite, down to earth guy. Many years later I got to meet Kevin well into his career. They were monumental moments in my life.

Great story! I've got one to share, my dad is friends with one of the legends mentioned in this clip. When at a BASS event, that legend told my dad "that kid (KVD) will be better than me or any other fisherman in the future". That was in the early 90's. Greatness can see others of the same caliber, just sayin.
