      Personally I feel Irene should give up on Sherlock and flirt with Molly. That would make a much more stable couple. Molly is smart, loves people but shy and Irene is sexy, smart and mischievous. They could bring out the best in each other.
      That both of them were involved with Jim Moriarty it’s possible that both characters are already closet friends. I am surprised that the female characters of BBC Sherlock are not developed more. I believe that was part of the point of The Abominable Bride episode.

    For me, the scene when John says that he's not gay and Irene says that she is, but "look at us both", it's saying that both John and Irene DO love/are attracted to Sherlock despite their respective sexual orientations. Because Love isn't necessarily synonymous with Sexual Attraction. IMO, there IS some form of attraction between Sherlock and Irene, and there IS love between Sherlock and John, but it is not necessarily a sexual attraction/love. It could be romantic, could be intellectual, but perhaps not sexual.

    • @SilverGallowglass
      @SilverGallowglass Před 4 lety +28

      @Snoi Med It is true that for a lot of people sexuality and love are linked but not always for all people. You have found that to be true in your life, but that isn't always the case. Asexuals can find romantic love and platonic love. Aromatics can have platonic love and sexual love. Someone who is both aro and ace can still have lifelong platonic companionship.
      We usually expect our romantic and sexual love to agree though because that is seen as the norm. Which can cause some to be confused about how they love someone when it doesn't agree because it might feel the same. All forms of love are able to be just as powerful as the others and so when you love someone intensely you might not think to question how you love them, you just know you do. You might assume that because it is intense that it has to be romantic and sexual because that's what it was the last time you felt this intensely for someone. It is all subjective and confusing because everyone loves differently and every type of love is different, so no one but yourself can really know how feeling love works for you (and even we have trouble knowing ourselves) but that is part of the journey of living.
      The thing is that sometimes our attractions are not static. There is a fluidity to attraction that means that sometimes you experience something unique that might fall out of line with your expectations for how you are attracted, which is partly what I think is happening in this scene. She has never loved a man and John has never loved a man, at least not how they love Sherlock (as to how they love him, that is up to them) but it is different to the love they have felt in the past and there is an understanding there.

      When I first saw this scene, I totally got differently from now. To begin with, I was obsessed with the idea of Sherlock an Adler being in this sick idea of love; while I also was sligthly pissed of by the recurring joke of everybody confusing Jon and Sherlock as a couple... but now the message is far deeper.
      Both Jon and Irene have a clear sexual identity... both love women. But still, both have found a particular person in the world from whom they are absolutelly unable of not being atracted to. There is no need this to be a sexual atraction; simply they found themselves bound to follow Sherlock. They are amazed for him. Althoug he denies any sexual relation (as none of them is interested in it) Jon still finds himself forced to live with the man and follow him in his adventures...
      ... Irene, however; whose line of work is obiously more sexual; she finds herself filtring with a man; as any schoolirl would. And even if she is rejected, ignored (and there is no sexual aspect in their relation either) she continues to orbitate toward him; even if she it is against her own nature.
      Irene sees this; how she and Watson are actually atracted tho the very same man, not nowing either of them what are they actualy looking or expecting from a relation with that man. And of course, the inhabillity of controling thoose feelings amazes and wonders a master of controling the desires and the feelings... brilliant

    The people here debate whether or not they are gay. Moffitis always stated that there would be no Johnlock, which is all joke and such. But I do not understand the scope of this' joke ', where whole scenes like this are produced, not with subtexts, but openly (' are you jealous? ',' We are not a couple ',' yes, you are ',' look at us two ') just for the sake of' play '? Oh really? I think Sherlock has some attraction to Irene, and in other episodes, like 'The Abominable Bride' and 'The Final Problem', proves this, but I believe it's something that's just a fascination for both. Irene is a lesbian and Sherlock declared 'girlfriends is not her area' and that is exactly why they were confused by this fascination that arose. I also believe that if they stop their silly games and relate to each other, they will both discover that they can be just friends (But I would not be upset if they did, they would become a couple.I even like Irene) With John it's totally different. Sherlock risked his career, health, happiness and his life by his doctor. I understand the discomfort with the gay thing, but everyone who actually watched the show, can not deny that all seasons have revolved around John Watson, since when Sherlock laid eyes on him in the lab on Bart, until Sherlock rescued him from the pit where Eurus drowned Redbeard (especially now that it was discovered that who was behind Moriarty was Eurus) What I can say is: John is the true love of Sherlock, and Irene the only woman Sherlock loved.

      in fact nothing has been confirmed, but the evidence of the canon indicates that it happened. I personally believe it did. But as for his argument that Sherlock is not gay because he had sex with Irene sounds a little weak. I mean, it's not news that a person has sex, gets married and even has children with someone of the opposite sex and later 'discovers' that he is gay. It happens more often than we think. Celebrities are there to prove it. Besides, do not forget that Irene is admittedly gay. So you mean she's not a lesbian because she had sex with Sherlock?

      But I don't really believe it. He was more attracted to her intelligence and cleverness than in a physical way was not means that he hadn't true feelings for her. He was honestly affected by her "death.' For this reason he composed this sad music.

      Stuff and nonsense. The actors have said he's not gay, the creators, writers, producers and directors have said he's not gay. _What more do you want?_
      Sherlock is a Victorian-era creation and, if anything, he brings much of that period's attitude towards keeping one's brain free of sexual thoughts in the name of "purity" - the original novels even imply that he flat-shares with a man *specifically* to remove himself from the temptation of women.
      This is one of the best scenes in one of the best episodes across all four series... The writing, pacing, editing, blocking, lighting, cinematography, camera angles, composition, etc, etc are all just about as good as it gets, and all you care about is inventing this alleged subtext. Can folk please just get over the need to project their own fantasies onto this scene already! Apparently you are unaware of the fact that the viewers' interpretation of the series is as valid as that of the creators. Irene IS AN ASSUMIDALLY LESBIAN WOMAN. And to me she was not cured of her homosexuality by Sherlock's big gold dick. Even because, this is impossible. What exists between them is a mutual attraction, by each other's intellect, that made the most domineering party (in this case, Irene) cease in submission for the sake of awe. It's purely emotional. And it's easy to remember Sherlock's words: "Girlfriends? No, not really my area."
      "I'm not interested in naked women."

    • @djjohnson8657
      @djjohnson8657 Před 5 lety +25

      Why should John care more for Sherlock's feelings than Sherlock cares for John's feelings?
      I think that the end of season 2 was a good reason for John to withdraw from Sherlock. Sherlock forced John to watch him jump from a building and see his bloody "body". So John had to live 2 years thinking he had failed Sherlock when he couldn't talk him out of suicide. Sherlock saw John crying graveside; he heard him too. But he couldn't trust John to not give his being alive away. But he could trust Sherlock's own parents to fake caring; he could trust random government workers to never tell; he could trust random street people to never tell (though they would have good reason to - to get off the streets. Tabloids would pay a lot for a story about how Sherlock lives!). I think that John would have gone along with the fake suicide if Sherlock had explained to John that giving the secret away would mean the deaths of Mrs. Hudson and Lestrade. He would have willingly gone to visit Sherlock's "grave" if it mean saving them. Then Sherlock forced John to go through the terror of waiting to die in the underground to make him admit he still admired Sherlock. Then laughed at him for being afraid.
      If we go back to the 2nd episode of series 2, then what about Sherlock secretly feeding John, a PTSD sufferer, a hallucinogen that caused test subjects to commit suicide years before. Sherlock could have tested the sugar BEFORE, in the same lab where he tortured John.
      In series 4 they switched roles. Sherlock became the caring one; John became the abuser.

But as Sherlock and Irene, it's not sexual... it's an attraction, but not sexual. He admires her intellect and strength.... With John, Sherlock has never been as close to anyone as he is with John. There is a love there as well, but not sexual. But again with the actors... Benedict/Martin... again the audience sees attraction as in sexual (look at some the fan art that has been created) But again it's love, but not sexual. As someone said in the comments both Irene and John love Sherlock, not strictly sexual love, but someone they cannot help but follow... no matter where he leads them.... LOL!

    Sherlock and John are not gay. I'm bisexual myself, but I get only best friend vibes from them. Denying romantic relationships with best friend doesn't mean they're really a couple. So they're love each other as best friends and brothers. Moffat and Gatiss also said they're not a couple. Gatiss once said "We're not against it, but that's not the story we want to tell". And you can see John only dated with women and his love of his life was Mary. And Irene seems she is bi. She loved Sherlock, but also she likes women and Sherlock loved her too. And Sherlock is asexual. Moffat confirmed it. And you can see Sherlock and Molly has feelings for each other during this series, but Sherlock wasn't really into romantic relationships in the first episodes. However, I don't hate Johnlock fanfictions ect. and I don't mind to read them, but I don't ship Johnlock as couple. I ship them as best friends and the soul brothers. John is like the brother Sherlock never had and the brothers and friends can be jelaous for each other too. But anyway imagine if you're best friends with someone, but some people think you're couple, isn't it annoying? I had these kind of experiences too and it was bit hard to tell the others "We're only friends", but all people didn't believe me. Of course Sherlock and John are fictional characters, but you know what I mean. As bi I think if they're really a couple, I'm not against it, but the screenwriters wanted to respect the original Sherlock Holmes books, where Sherlock and John were best friends like in this series too. People can love each other in many ways. ❤️💕😊

It is truly unbelievable that people watch a series made to illustrate the process of humanizing a character that everyone has always considered cold and relentless, and yet, after so many demonstrations of how much Sherlock is an emotional creature that accumulates a lot of feelings (for God's sake, does he make his heart beat by John Watson only in the last episode of S3, how can a sociopath be able to?) and after all that, still think he's the same man who was at the beginning of the series. Sherlock Holmes is kind, gentle, friendly, he loves very much and to many people and no, he is not a sociopath.
      As for the truthfulness of the Johnlock argument in the canon, it is up to us all to interpret their relationship as we deem most appropriate. In my case, they love each other in a romantic way, yes, a lot.

      Lady Capuccino ok but for god’s sake, I let you think that Johnlock is real (they don’t love each other in the romantic way but it’s your point of view) so let me think that Sherlock is a sociopath

    It was Mycroft’s assistant that brought him there. Does that mean she was the source of the leak?

    Honestly this is one of them things where I do like to image Sherlock and Watson can be a thing but doesn't have to be gay full sexual attractions for eachother for it to be love. For me don't care what others think, I do think they're attracted to eachother in a more intellectual romantic love but not sexual, that's my stance on it.
    Do find it a rediculous though and in some cases hilarious with how crazy some people get with this topic. On one hand we got the crazy shippers who think Sherlock and Watson want to have steaming hot sex together every night and attack anyone who thinks different then the other side where people flip their biscuits at people who ship them and think they all think the same way and attack em because of it. Guess that's shipping for ya.
