I really tried to justify decision and keep Mark VI however after more than a week with the phone decided to choose S24 Ultra instead. Here are my cons/pros (i know it is long, but maybe it will help someone to decide :) : Xperia Audio: more bass, less spacious, Battery: very good performance, great standby results, drop during the night only 1% Indoor photos (gray conditions): less noise, more sharp outcome. White balance rather cool, whole shoot is sharp, better macro capabilities. Indoor photos (dark conditions): much less noise, much sharer outcome, better highlights management Video overall: lack of sharpness, Xperia 1 V recorded much clearer video over VideoPro app. Video Zoom: soft, lack of saturation, stabilization could be much better Video night: needs software improvement, too shaky stabilization, lots of noise. Additional features: Memory card slot, 3.5mm audio port, Extra: less premium feeling while holding it in hand, but is much more comfortable due to size and weight S24U Audio: much more specious sound, with slightly less bass. Battery: great battery performance after updates, average standby, drop during the night by 3% Indoor photos (gray conditions): more noise, sharpness present in the center of the shot, little green tint, more warm white balance Indoor photos (dark conditions): much more noise, photo is sharp in the center, worse highlights management Video overall: much sharper, with higher dynamic range. Little bit more saturated, Video Zoom: clearer picture, sharper, very good stabilization, saturation is just on the good level, Video night: lack of lens flares, sharpness is OK, sometimes appearing magenta/green tint. Additional features: S-Pen, DeX, Antireflecting display coating, Extra: premium feeling while holding in the hand, little bit less comfortable however with bigger screen. Verdict: I decided to stay with S24U. This is more complex phone as a whole package (we should remember that phone is not only about camera). System navigation is smooth and phone has much more features which justify price more than in Xperia case. Sony still needs few software updates to fix some issues, for instance there is a weird lag which appears while phone changing panel refresh rate. Video has a lot to improve, there is a lot of sharpening applied to photos in auto mode.
They aren't underestimated at all. I've owned my 1iv for nearly 2 years and it performs worse than just about all my other Sony devices in terms of what it is supposed to do. The overheating is terrible
Disagree strongly. Just switched my Sony Xperia 1 IV for a VI. Until my new VI, the former one, was my best phone ever, which includes a series of Sony devices, but also iPhone, Samsung, HTC, LG and Nokia. Overheating was a minor issue, but is now fixed in Xperia 1 VI...
I had some issues with software on my 1mkIII, but overall I'm very happy with this phone. Wasn't happy about front camera performance too but I don't use it often. Sony is really a phone for specific group of people. I'm kinda sad that they ditched 21:9 aspect ratio which makes their phones so great to hold in hand but well. They need to sell their phones in the end. Preordered 1mkVI and it's waiting for me at home. Can't wait to get it to my hands!

Great review, love this video, new subscriber here👍 I have the s22 ultra I've had samsungs scince the stone age😂😂😂 I think I'm a sony fan now love the shutter button audio jack and sd card slot this is definitely my next phone🤞🤞🤞
Had it for a month too, the most impressive feature for me is it's battery life, first phone I have had in 10 years that really manages to get 2 full days of medium to heavy usage.. have been waiting for this for what seems like forever
It has up to 1.75 TB, not 1.5 (sd+built in storage) and it the 1 V had 3 camera apps not 2. Photo Pro, Video Pro and Cinematography Pro, all of which mirrored the menu systems of Sony's Alpha (A1, A7S3), Cinema Pro (FX 3,6,9) Cine Alta cameras like the Venice which can only be rented not bought, (as it costs a s much as a house). The greatest thing about these apps was by learning them you then knew how to use all of Sony's cameras right to the very top.
Saving money right now. Hope to buy it as soon as possible. It just enter Malaysia 's market a few days ago. However, it is still long way for me, coz, it is really expensive.

A 1.5k screen (yes it's the minimum today, and above all, Samsung was criticized for years for its S+ which were "just FHD"), 4 years minimum of Android update (but the smartphone must be released in February at the latest, not 2-3 months before the new Android version and especially the new Snapdragon) because there, it's no longer even 3 years of updating but 2 years in real life, a 1" main sensor, better video stabilization, keeping its niche features (Pro Camera, colorimetry, headphone jack, SD card) by adding mainstream features (better HDR, better photo night mode, good auto camera like on iPhones, Galaxy and other smartphones), a "really" good telescopic zoom, and above all a price of $1000- $1100 max, there, Sony will be able to get back into the game. 🙏🏽
When I look back at your previous review of the 1v , Mark … you slated the camera ( especially the zoom lens) .. imo the 1v was better than the 1vi as there are a few things that Sony has dropped , music haptics for instance , which was a fantastic idea and is just about to be copied on the iPhone 16 I believe . Also the shutter button is going to be copied by apple too ! The Home Screen does not rotate on the 1vi which is a shame . I don’t agree about the camera app being better than the dedicated camera apps on the 1v ! The screen is good on the new phone but I think the clarity was better on the 1v ( personal opinion ) . One thing that is better on the 1vi is the battery life ( probably down to the 1080p screen ( why didn’t they go for quad hd ??? ) They begrudgingly offer three years of updates for the operating system now instead of 2 , which is a step in the right direction . It may seem that I am dissing this phone but I still love Sony products .. and imo the Sony 1vi is still niche enough to make me buy it ( I used one for a week to make my comparison) . But Sony have to learn that charging stupid money means that they are there to be criticised… and rightly so . In a world of “bubble gum” mobiles that look pretty and over saturate photos , Sony stand out with probably only the pixel phones that can compete with their camera tech .( although we know most of the pixels photos are software manipulated.) All in all the 1vi is a great phone , that is not quite a must buy , unless you are a Sony but like me !
Shame Sony has decided to not go global with this phone outside EU/UK its not hard to import but the support and after care with import becomes very challenging. good review from a general perspective.
I live in the US is there anyway to purchase this in payments and get it sent to me? Or do you have any word if Sony is looking to branch out to the US due to the positive reviews around the world from this device?
Mine is.. ok. It's resprung itself several times and the camera has a lot to be desired but I do love the phone overall. I really wish the post processing was a lot better, a lot of the photos looks bad. Great battery, great screen however isn't worth the money.
And the battery? It's the biggest reason I'm into this phone and did not see you complement it. Is it that much better then all the other flagships or it's just marketing?
It's an amazing phone, camera is superb. Unfortunately not all variants support Esim, which I found out after buying. Many reviews mentioned it supported Esim, whereas the EC72 doesn't support it. FYI
@@Agent-xj5xe XQ-EC72 does NOT, only XQ-EC54 supports Esim Overall the XQ-EC72 is a great phone, it handles 4k video editing with ease. My only complaint is the Esim, which is one reason I hoped to use while traveling in different countries, now I need to fiddle with sim providers within each country.
I dont think sony will get rid of the headphone jack as it is a big part of their brand as they sell digital audio players, 3.5mm IEMs and headphones. The only way I see them getting rid of the headphone jack on their phones is if they release a line of usb-c iems and headphones. But yeah that would seem to be negating what sony is all about. Samsung never had cd walkmans so don't have that vested interest or passion for audio and Apple is more focused on "innovation" than practicality and quality of sound.
I think Sony should bring out some decent mid range phones , bit like they used to do . I know rhey do a cheaper phone, which i believe isn't particularly good .
I don’t think the cameras are that great in general. I like all the software stuff and the capture button they have, but the end result is not something that would compel me to get over other top end smart phones these days. It’s a shame, because I do enjoy the approach to phones Sony has taken(and diversity in the smartphone market is always good).
I want to get one but it's not available in India so won't be able to get covers/screen gaurds and service/repairs just in case. Also the pricing is extremely high which IMO is not justified. If Cameras were higher spec with auto and night modes comparable to vivo or honor and had 5 yrs of OS update then the price would have been digestible.🙂🙂 Has anyone made custom ROM with gcam support?😅
@@mr-simog4736 Because there are only incremental improvements these days with top end phones. People have to buy food which has become very expensive.
Absolutely loving my 1 mark 6 after switching from the Samsung S24 Ultra! The battery life is fantastic, probably no other phone has given me such battery life 💪🏻
They have ruined the whole core concept of this phone. It does not match the layout of their Alpha cameras which people are used to. The 4K Screen is gone and the 85mm lens is more blury than before. The worst of it all, they dont give you a LOG format so you can apply your own LUT which now Apple offers. So iPhone is ahead of it now.
im owning a xperia 1iii 2 years alredy.. i an say that fingerprint sensor doesent work anymore..speaking mic falling apart an stop working..believe they doing it with thier updates.... so not trusty... this was my first and last sony phone..
I daily drive the sony xperia 1 iv android phone with it's 4k 120 hz oled display, headphone jack, micro sd card slot and a physical dual sim card support that I bought from best buy when the phone came out. Unfortunately, my sony phone already has oled burn in issues just like every single oled device that I use and own already have burn in issues. It's why I wish there were a mini led display versions for smartphones so there will be no more oled burn in issues. The way I use oled displays on any display that has an oled display is guaranteed to have burn in issues and the display has even gotten dimmer and the white colors turn yellow like a clear cell phone case that turns yellow. I treat all displays in the same way whether the displays are oled and non oled displays. It's why I don't have an oled 4k tv because i guarantee that it will have oled burn in issues and that the display will get dimmer because I would buy a remote for the 4k oled tv and bypass the oled safety features to prevent oled issues such as turning off safety features to try to slow down the process of oled burn in issues. I basically would cause burn in intentionally on the 4k oled tv.
Is it worth the money....no. I've got it, still testing it but it does have a few issues with auto adjustment of screen brightness, finger print scanner is a bit dodge compared to my pixel 8 pros screen based optical scanner. Cameras are ok to good. Os is ok but lacks Google's end polish. Form factor is great and much lighter than the pixel 8 pro (more plastics?) Screen brightness is fine. 720p panel I really haven't noticed the difference and I am genuinely getting 48hrs battery on light to mid use. Gaming performance much much better than the pixel 8 pro Need to spend some time learning the camera system..... Not sure but what happened to being able to take loads of photos quickly like 30 a sec which was on the mk v, can't seem to find this on the mk vi which if it's gone is disappointing as I have 4 kids and pets that never stay still!
@@taxidriver00754 personally watched videos from CZcams on it but not tried content in 4K. However, TV marketing used to say you can't tell the difference between HD 1080p and 4K on screens less than 40" so I'm not sure you would notice much of a change here. Colour reproduction is good. And the speakers which are front facing are soooo much better although to notice you need volume over 50%
The camera is totally simple now, isn't it?Automatic mode and basicmod are now Foto . For moving images e.g. children it can't get any better than the 1vi go left....to Pro Mode.....Press M and select S.....Then you choose a shutter speed that you need For fast movements at least 1/500 sec.....Make sure you have enough light and ISO is not too high......The less the better.Select eye autofocus. Select Image sequence high. Then press the shutter button lightly And focus on the object......Press Shutter Button and the picture will be 100% perfect.
And still has old boring UI. Yes is liclose to stock Android, but for 1200£ should have custom UI, also screen is not bright like competition have and a hear also phone got hot sometimes like every Sony before. For me still best desing no doubt but overpriced phone like every Sony for years.
returned my Xperia 1 vi and will keep my s20fe longer. The xperia 1 vi is NOT as good as youtuber want you to believe, trust me. Especially the camera. I tested every lens thorughly and I quite understand a bit of camera tech and phone camera quality. The pictures on my nearly 4 year old s20fe were on the same level as from the xperias in most scenarios. I was extremely disappointed by the 7.1 optical zoom. it looked washed out and not sharp, more like a digital zoom with a low mp sensor. on 20x zoom the pictures of my s20 fe were more zoomed in and simply better. the normal pictures look more vibrant on my s20fe and I like that. The ONLY definitely better thing is the battery life. but that is not worth spending 1300 Euro. It has no new backround pictures that change with every time unlock the screen and I love that feature from my samsung. always looking at the same backround is so boring and I don't want to install an app for that. So yeah I seem to be a samsung fanboy but I don't care. And I was a DIEHARD Sony fan until the xz premium.

And the battery? It's the biggest reason I'm into this phone and did not see you complement it. Is it that much better then all the other flagships or it's just marketing?
Sony 👌. my very first phone, a sony J5
It's an amazing phone, camera is superb.
Unfortunately not all variants support Esim, which I found out after buying. Many reviews mentioned it supported Esim, whereas the EC72 doesn't support it. FYI
so, does 1 vi support esim?
@@Agent-xj5xe XQ-EC72 does NOT, only XQ-EC54 supports Esim
Overall the XQ-EC72 is a great phone, it handles 4k video editing with ease. My only complaint is the Esim, which is one reason I hoped to use while traveling in different countries, now I need to fiddle with sim providers within each country.
@@Agent-xj5xe XQ-EC72 does NOT support, XQ-EC54 does support Esim
@@netizenplanet thanks!
Big downgrade is aspect ratio changed, big change is tele macro and battery
But that's a matter of taste I had the Pro i,1V And now the 1vi I find the new format much much better.. Fortunately, Sony has changed that
I dont think sony will get rid of the headphone jack as it is a big part of their brand as they sell digital audio players, 3.5mm IEMs and headphones.
This is actually metal and glass btw.
I want one but does worry me about future updates
I think Sony should bring out some decent mid range phones , bit like they used to do . I know rhey do a cheaper phone, which i believe isn't particularly good .
Xperia 10v.
@@bloodytoad2010 they need to improve that model it's way behind the competition ☺️
@@marksouthwell4490 there's rumor of upcoming mid range utilizing snapdragon 7 series. Hope it's either the 7+ Gen 2 or even better, the 7+ Gen 3. 😆😆😆
How's low light photography? I heard it wasn't that great.. :/
I don’t think the cameras are that great in general. I like all the software stuff and the capture button they have, but the end result is not something that would compel me to get over other top end smart phones these days. It’s a shame, because I do enjoy the approach to phones Sony has taken(and diversity in the smartphone market is always good).
Low light pics are great too 😊
The 1 mark 6 is great in pictures quality, it's a huge improvement compare vs the 1 mark 5, as they also changed some of the cameras hardware
As a Sony camera enthusiast who lives in the states, oh well. I see they decided to cut their losses and having to deal with US carriers.
It's either this. Or S25 or Google 9.
How's that 1080p downgrade and aspect ratio change?
Didn't notice the resolution change and the ratio is much better.
So Sony doesn't even come close to Samsung's now 7 years of OS updates...or am I wrong?
Yeah but most people get a phone every 2 years. At least i do. So why would we need 7 years of updates?
Not 7, but they give 5 years, it still more then enough
@@mr-simog4736 Because there are only incremental improvements these days with top end phones. People have to buy food which has become very expensive.
@@arthur_pd3 years and 4 year of security updates
Bit put off with the bezels tbh. The forehead and chin takes me back to 2017. Apart from that it looks a good phone but a deal breaker for me.
It's 9999999 times better than notch / gigantic island on the display to me.
@@bloodytoad2010Yes, and they use these bezels to built in front facing stereo speakers, which apparently sound very good.
they still removed 4k screen and downsized not a upgrade we hoped for
Absolutely loving my 1 mark 6 after switching from the Samsung S24 Ultra! The battery life is fantastic, probably no other phone has given me such battery life 💪🏻
no other people is busy digging on what apple is doing delivering low old tech with supery fancy hype phones .
You just made me regret that i have brought a Samsung
They supply impressive latest 1 inch sensor to other phone manufacturers yet they don’t use it on their own flagship phone.
1 pro comes with 1" sensor.
@@ThiHaGadgets yup but they never released a new version of that with the latest version of their 1” sensor. Hence, why?
@@BEM_01 They don't want to sell a lot. 😁
Rumor they coming with a pro c. Do not know if it's true though.
Incredibly sharp 😂😂😂😂😂 how much do they pay you dude?
You must be new to this channel. This guy doesnt do sponsored reviews. And the results speak for themselves, don't they?
How much did who pay who, old chap?
Form factor is great and much lighter than the pixel 8 pro (more plastics?)
Screen brightness is fine.
720p panel I really haven't noticed the difference and I am genuinely getting 48hrs battery on light to mid use.
Gaming performance much much better than the pixel 8 pro
Need to spend some time learning the camera system..... Not sure but what happened to being able to take loads of photos quickly like 30 a sec which was on the mk v, can't seem to find this on the mk vi which if it's gone is disappointing as I have 4 kids and pets that never stay still!
How would you compare the screen for watching movies and stuff on it to the pixel 8 pro
Screen resolution is actually 1080p(fhd+)
Let's pretend that it is hard to say the name, because... Everyone else does it.
Please try harder - this doesn't make any sense.
Would think of getting a Sony, however some networks in the UK only cater for iPhone and Samsungs. Pixels are also issues on some networks.
Not true..
300.- and Mediatek, sorry SONY
I only buy Sony...
Xperia 1 is a superb reliability Quality. Good Build Quality as ❤️🩹 well
That's an awful lot of money for a phone. I'd rather buy a nice Swiss mechanical watch.
Not much of a comparison that, mate, is it?
What on earth are you talking about? 🤣
That’s an awful lot of money for a smartphone. Id rather buy a nice refrigerator.
Kann deine Uhr Fotos machen😂
That's awful money for watch. You can use your phone to see time. 😂😂😂
Nah, I’m an Apple person 😊
6.5in is just too small, Sony should make a bigger phone like 7.2in up to be stand out with others
I love sony but they're so expensive 🫠
