- Another year, another reaction with my mum. She has now seen all the songs from semi final 1 of Eurovision 2024 and given her brutally honest feedback. Of course the host Sweden, and two of the big 5 countries (Germany, United Kingdom) that are automatically in the final, but performing in this semi, were included as well.

Portugal not following the rules and doing their own thing is the best complement.
As an Irish person this is sad to watch 😭😭. We finally send something different, take a risk, and it actually is so creative, artistic, reflects Irish history as well soooo much, but everyone is like ‘no, go back to your bland crap that nobody ever votes for’. I get that it’s divisive, but I find so many reactions to this expression of the alternative music scene and the new Ireland combined with historical Irish cultural elements depressing. Bambie is an icon, we are so proud. And as you said to Serbia - if you’re not used to it it may take some time, that’s fine. But this automatic shutting down, it’s sad.

@@silencestation557 I have - and also Patroden Studio gives a great musical analysis of the song. It’s ultimately musical theatre, and sure, it’s not suited to that Irish national final studio (no songs are 😂) but this was miles above the competition this year. Harking back to our pagan roots, the first Irish alphabet, the heartbeat underlying the entire song apart from the end breakdown, the artistic and creative power of Bambie as a performer, there’s so much to appreciate, and instead it’s just ‘no, Ireland is better than this…30 years ago’. Sorry, times move forward and music changes. Genre mashing is a thing, Bambie has great live vocals and a great back catalgoue, and to hear such automatic dismissal of the song (the live in a poor studio and not the music video or even the LDN preparty), it’s sad and disheartening as an Irish Eurovision fan
@@ESC_ChrisM Yeah, I totally get that it's pretty sad. I think even only the fact that you guys send something so "out of the box" this year should be appreciated. For me personally, Doomsday Blue is a real grower, I love its deep and multi-layered nature so you'll discover something new by every listen. The visual aesthetics of MV is on another level, really impressive! I'm sure that it will be so spectacular on the Eurovision stage, an absolute standout.

When you listen to any song for the first time and you listen to it in one piece until the end and then you go to listen again because maybe it's too short??, as if you need more... It just keeps you on a high level until the end without a break. Everything is so well connected ,words, message, rhythm, melody, visuals..Everything so well connected and conveyed. I am from Serbia and I respect her opinion about Balkan songs. For example I can never connect with Swedish songs or one from Lithuania, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Denmark, Ireland & Croatia (mostly)... we all have different music taste and it would be weird and not honest if we say we like them all. That's exactly what I've been saying about politics and neighbourly voting. It isn't necessarily always about a specific country, rather the music (style, genre) that is popular in the region and what people are used to. Of course it's just one piece in the puzzle, but an important one that many tend to forget. Thank you for your comment! 🇪🇪🇷🇸
Only like Portugal and Serbia
The only songs that are masterpieces and original and melodic. Others are generic and overdone

i mean i get why people get sick of sweden but literally no one other than pop people apply to melodifestivalen or get invited, so its just a competition of gneric pop songs every year, and usually at least one of them is quite good and gets sent down to the continent to represent us and i am usually happy with it. there isnt much mainstream music in sweden that isnt radio pop or heavy metal hahahahaha

I cant stand how lame and boring Swedish songs are year after year after year. Never off course, never experimental, never new. Look at Norway for example

I disagree with what you said regarding calmer music. It doesn't have to be all plastic pop songs in English. music has to convey feeling. and not be empty like many are... without any cultural reference.

I sincerely disagree with No Rules sounding like Modern Talking, they only made one song like 20 times (I do like it) but it was never in that bpm. To me it only sounds like E-type. Also I do think the song's message is even more important than the seemingly endless references to 30 years ago. And I am goddamn PERKELE PROUD to have a memorable show representing us, even if some hate it.

I have to agree with your Mom on Croatias entry Baby Lasagna I've listened to it a lot but I just feel like it is a bit too simplistic and not as catchy for me as others seem to like, definitely should be in the grand final though but semi final 2 has around 4-5 acts that i think will finish infront. Cool video :)

As a Slovenian, I can say that I completely understand, the Slovenian song is really like that, it's not bad, but it's also nothing special, so there's no need to apologize, cause that's right, the song is average, and your opinion is completely credible.
