Geez, that takes me back 15+ years ! I did that exact same fix on my Fiero the day I brought it home on a trailer and stuck a fresh battery on it. I'd just got a car with pop up-n-down headlights, that didn't pop up😲. Had to be fixed there and then!😃
I just did mine and on the pass side i just pried out the big gear and on installation just lightly tapped it in ez and worked great no need to take apart the motor
As another alternative ..You can use 74410 dorman part from autozone. These are pucks for a ford window motor but they work in the fiero, firebird and vette headlight motors. They are tight but they work. Plus they are dirt cheap and readily available.. Or you can just fill the voids up with hot glue gun sticks cut into the appropriate lengths.
10 mm socket with a little extension & a ratchet I believe. I think you have to go by feel, pretty sure you can't see it. It's been a while though so I might be wrong.
My motors gears etc are all good but they will randomly bot go up or down. If I turn them on or off and go quickly to the culprit motor and give it a turn it will actuate just fine. I’ve heard there is some module under the fender which I’ve never dealt with. I’ve been stumped for years. For may years the only issue I had was a stripped spline on the output shaft and the little bushing inside the gear assembly. They worked perfect for so so many years up to the last few. Any ideas ? Mines an 88 Formula (V8)
There is a module in the front left area. I had one go bad once and opened it up and could clearly see where the solder path had deteriorated. I re-soldered it and it worked perfect - worth a try.
I got both of mine working, but they go up kinda slow and the right side is about two inches from going all the way up. Would that be a grounding issue or a relay?
It has been a while since I have worked on these. First thing that comes to mind since these cars are getting older and many have sat outside is - does your headlight part of the hood open freely with just the spring resistance? Are the pivot bolts corroded providing too much resistence.
@@Toys4Life I do believe so because I messed around with that a little to make sure they work like they’re supposed to. One thing I left out was at one point I only had the RIGHT headlight assembly in because I needed a new motor for the left side but before the left side was put in, the right side worked perfectly. Now that I have both assemblies in the car, the left works but now the right doesn’t go up completely all the way. I have to lift it about two inches. That’s what let me to possibly a bad ground or relay

Did you use hose?
@@Toys4Life Yes, fuel hose.
P.S: I posted this comment over a year ago! 😉
I know. Better late than never (:-)
@@Toys4Life 👍😃
This was great i live in the netherlands and this saved me from having to import a small kit with pucks for 70 bucks. Now it was just 10. Thanks man!
I was watching your video last night while doing the bushings on both, thanks for the info! Will be reinstalling the lights today.
Legendary! Saved me a few bucks and my droopy lights up and running again
Excellent video! Nice and easy instructions. Got my passenger side out and I am gonna work on it tonight. Can't wait to see if it fixes the problem.
Fingers crossed, let us know!

Interesting - thanks!
I just bought rebuilt headlight motors from the Fiero Store swapped the old ones out
The easy way!
Great vid!
Thank you!
I have a question for you, I’m wondering how you undid those bottom two bolts. I’ve got an 84 fiero, and I just can’t seem to undo them!

@@Toys4Life thanks for the tip. You mean Front left in the headlight cavity area. I’ve seen what looks like a relay there.
@@txfieros I think it's outside of the headlight area underneath the fender area. It's a 5x5x2-in module bolted to the chassis.

Those motors don't look like my 1984 Fiero.
Correct, these are 87 and 88.
