I was in Sri Lanka last year during the economic crisis. I remember how it all started with small protests and it didn't look serious, even the politicians went on just taking it lightly. Everything we are going through now as a country was just similar to what was happening. In a few months, (4 months ) the government could not afford to import basics like fuel, food, and even medicines, that's when people took matters into their hands. We don't want to get there, trust me. I saw the money depreciate, and the inflation rate going up to upto over 50%, currently, our inflation rate (Kenya) is at 8% so you can imagine how it feels like when it gets to above 50%. You go to the shop tomorrow and the bread you bought yesterday at 50 is even up to 500. We don't want to get there trust me. Let's pray for our nation and do better.

...we have all the information we need to make the decision we need to make. It's not possible that John-Allan, Jimmy Wanjigi, Controller of Budget, Okiya Omtata are all wrong. The key is the middle class. Once they feel the pinch nicely, then we move. Right now, those at the bottom understand. Those at the top couldn't care less coz they have alternatives. Those in the middle (all those mostly employed and with sizeable businesses) still have their paychecks albeit the value is lower. Until those in the middle become uncomfortable enough to join those at the bottom......no one can pretend that their ears are not working and their eyes are not seeing....

I think I'm now beginning to get it. It looks like, since before independence, Kenya was configured to become a full-time "Fuliza Economy." Global lenders were going to pile endless loans on us - tupende tusipende. We were programmed to borrow huge amounts of foreign capital, whether we need the money or not. Because of that predisposition, it then must follow that the international lending cabals will only allow politicians to rise to power in Kenya dependent on how prone or willing they are to gobble and guzzle more & more foreign loans on our behalf. Reminds me of those coffee & dairy cooperatives of Murang'a where perennially, "Bwana Chairman" will blatantly sign huge loans with banks, shylocks and peddlers of hardware, allegedly "on behalf of the farmers." When it get to the point where the produce revenues are not enough to pay off the debts, the leaders begin to borrow to pay the old loans - while still borrowing new loans - until consequently, those entities have to be put under receivership and ultimately auctioned. Tuko na shida kubwa....

Well said. Kenya is one big SLAVE PLANTATION, but people don't realise. they are busy blaming these politicians not realising that Bwana Mkubwa (Mkoloni) is still in charge. After the 2nd World War, the USA devised the Marshall Plan and gave Europe £13 billion to rebuild. £13 Billion = £175 Billion in today's money. The Marshall Plan include *Loans* (at very low interest rate of 2%), *grants* and *skills transfer.* Europe was able to rebuild and become equal trading partner within no time. African countries began to gain independence a decade later, yet there was no Marshall Plan for Africa! They gave us loans in bits and bobs, at ridiculous prices, never mind we had the collateral (resources) to meet the loan payments. The loans were geared towards projects that furthered the Mzungus interest. Sometimes they would change their mind in the middle of funding a project. When we showed a keen interest in education, they used the IMF and World Bank to defund our education! In the 80s they wanted the govt to shut down local universities so that they could pick and choose who goes to study in England, this way they would limit university education all whilst benefitting from overseas students (it's huge money maker for the UK). Moi refused to shut down Unis and instead decided limit the number of students by introducing the crazy 8-4-4 system where students had to sit 10 subjects to gain entrance; and that is how they whittled down the number of students who went to University. Today education in Kenya is highly privatised never mind in the UK only 6% of students are privately educated. The figure is 7% in the States. Meanwhile in Kenya, parents are killing themselves to send students to private schools! Kenya is a mess in more ways than I can count

As a Gen Z, we studied many interesting books in high school, but one, in particular, stood out-the play "Betrayal in the City" by Francis Imbuga. At one point, he says, "It was better while we waited. Now we have nothing to look forward to. We have killed our past and are busy killing the future."
Our capital city serves as a hub for money laundering by Western imperialists, while the political class is busy looting without restraint. Instead of taking responsibility, the people blame others for their suffering. We call on certain individuals to save us, but we can only save ourselves. Raila, Ruto, Uhuru, and all the big-bellied thieves live luxuriously because of our hard-earned money. None of them truly fights for us; they all eat from the same plate.
Come 2027, the same script will be played, and we'll suffer from selective amnesia, paying non-existent debts to offshore accounts to fund the lifestyles of the privileged few.
The day we realize that we have one common enemy and it's not our neighbor is the only day this country can move forward. Otherwise, the cycle will continue.

Well, while there is currently no evidence of "money laundering Western imperialists" there is plenty of evidence of Kenyan politicians and public servants plundering their own country!
As you heard in the beginning of this broadcast, loans were taken locally, the equivalent amount of the international loan. Meaning that a local loan could have financed the said road. No need to go and take loans from outside. Still it was done.
International banks don't come to Kenyans to offer loans. Kenyans go to international banks for loans.
So the entire blame is on Kenyans. Or Kenyan leaders.
I recommend watching a recent interview on JKlive (citizen tv) with the current chairman of EACC.
If ou are shocked by this interview, you will have a sleepless night watching the JK interview.

If you are following the conversation you'll get to realise that , he ruto himself changed the rules of the game, a good example is that at the moment they can borrow money for a project, it doesn't hit the consolidated account, pay the contractor directly, don't you see this a proper scheme of siphoning money? The uhuruto regime completely messed us big time, and these politicians have mastered the game very well, play victim and win our sympathy, none including Rao is saint because at the moment, him Raila is all over because he isn't benefiting on these proceeds in any way, on the other end those on table are vehemently hard on him, it's us wananchi in between are being used as tools and being crashed.
