    Just bought the Tundra TRD Off Road Limited last Saturday. I cannot express how pleased I am with this truck. My uncle had the GMC Sierra and the Tundra is a more capable truck all around. Better at towing and more intelligent design. Plus, the TRD dual exhaust sounds soooo sweet! If you are looking for a truck, you owe it to yourself to at least test drive a Tundra.

    Watching this in late 2021 as the new 2022 Tundras hit the lots. I think I'll be sticking with my tried and true 2020 Tundra for a while. Great review Alex. 🇺🇸

    I don't believe the others towing numbers, Toyota doesn't shy away from numbers. Too bad the others do

    Alex, just wanted to let you know that your reviews are very informative and a pleasure to watch. I do watch many, many car review channels and yours is one of my favorites. Keep up the great work!

  • @AAutoBuyersGuide
    @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 11 lety

    It depends greatly on which trims you compare. The base Tundra is narrower, taller and longer than some of the American trucks but the larger cab varieties are on the whole narrower, taller in height and shorter in length than the others.

    But the reason why the tow numbers are lower is because the other makes don't use the new SAE tow ratings. I'm willing to bet they don't use them because they inflate their numbers.

  • @AAutoBuyersGuide
    @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 11 lety

    I will have to ask Toyota for clarification on that. The documentation I had from this event is ambiguous but leads me to think that it may be the "in-between" form known as electro-hydraulic where they replace the belt driven pump with an electric pump but retain the hydraulic rack. I'll Try to get back to you soon.

  • @AAutoBuyersGuide
    @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 11 lety +2

    I agree to a limited extent, however I have a hard time believing 50%+ inflations on the numbers. The big deal in this segment is the 2014 RAM V6 with the 8-speed auto which is an incredible tow vehicle (I've towed 7,500lbs with it) and the RAM 1500 diesel which will tow almost as much as Toyota's V8s. I have to say that my towing preference would be the diesel and 8-speed over the Toyota V8 and 6 speed.

    • @30smsuperstrat
      @30smsuperstrat Před 2 lety +1

      The cost of modern eco diesels in maintenance and false inflation of diesel fuel over gasoline make the diesels cost of ownership outrageous. Upon further review, the man step in the F150 looked horrible after a few years.

  • @AAutoBuyersGuide
    @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 11 lety

    We try to where we can, this was a truck provided at a launch event and Toyota didn't have any off road courses to try. They did have a trailer but they didn't know how much it weighed so I discounted that portion and didn't comment.

  • @geoBM818

    Great Review! This is a fully thorough review and If I still sold Toyotas, I would use this video's key point in reference to the tundra too!

  • @AAutoBuyersGuide
    @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 11 lety

    It is possible that Toyota made a mid-cycle change. We were driving a limited that day and it had LEDs, however it was also a pre-production model. I would go with what Toyota says at this moment as far as feature availability.

    Very detailed review and one of the best for the 2014 Tundra. Looking to buy one and this review helped. I could not find any info on the suspension and you answered it right away. Great side note on why the 1794 edition. I also like how you mentioned the changes from the previous version. Since I own a 2008 limited, I was curios if the changes where just cosmetic. Thx.

    Alex - Very well done. 4th review of yours I have seen, and like the others, this one is full of good data, well presented, with nice walk around/demo footage. Do you know about planned diesel engines for the Tundra?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  Před 10 lety +1

      While some car companies will pass around their own rumors, Toyota is very tight lipped so we really don't know if there are any diesel plans for America. At this point Toyota seems very resistant to turbos and diesels on our shores.

    I like the interior upgrade. I'm not a fan of the my grill is bigger then yours going on with all the trucks though. I think the grill on this new Tundra looks cartoonish just like the massive grill on the new Chevy trucks. They make the hood so high you can't see over the front of the truck very easy, something hampers offroading.

      +Htown7 Not everybody. After years of Ford and Chevy trucks or vans, I was pretty happy with my previous Toyota Tacoma. But, being the smallest truck I've owned, I needed more. Traded it in for a 2016 Tundra Limited 4x4 CrewMax for the extra towing capacity.
      After a few minor tweaks and a switch to more aggressive all-terrain tires, there's hardly anything about this truck I don't like. While nothing truly outstanding, Toyota got everything, the whole package, just right. Comfortable interior, pleasure to drive, handles well off-road, tows my new 28-ft travel trailer comfortably, and looks good in the color (sunset bronze) selected.
