I Grieve is one of the most beautiful songs for people who are grieving as his voice as it builds makes the same sound our souls make during such a painful journey of missing the one you love. I listen to this song often after the loss of my husband almost 10 years ago! ♥️🕊️
I freaking love Peter Gabriel.
I especially like (ed) his lyrics
You're not the only one!
Me too
You and me both.
Right with you man. He's a legend. And a magnificent human. What a writer and voice. Yet very humble.
Peter Gabriel’s music and stories are my therapy 😊
"Axe in the frozen sea" is a quote from Franz Kafka.
+Friedrich Nietzsche I flinched when I heard it. So true.
An under appreciated LEGEND.
I love him. He seems to be such a nice man.
Mercy Street always made me choke-up during performance. Thank you sincerely for that one❤️
I LOVE that song. Peter Gabriel reminds me of Bono in the way that he has the ability to channel (in ernest) his emotions into the listener. Some may say it is really good acting. I say, rather, that is in innate ability to touch your soul.
Massive massive fan of Peter and that era of genesis. ..was fortunate enough to see him do the lamb and he became my hero from then on..no better person than him to talk about life music and all the challenges that it throws up...Peter was streets ahead of everyone at his peak with genesis and then went on to even greater achievements and success...a truly remarkable musician and human being....
hold on to your soks
This conversation is as soulful as Peter's music. He is so pure. His shyness is endearing to me. There is no bullshit about him at all. I love how he turned the interview around. A clever guy and he didit brilliantly!
Am I the only one that really liked what Peter was playing and singing? The improv he was doing? He sounds so good! I am ready for a new album...
Brilliant musician, and such a sound human being
"One good thing about music: When it hits, you feel no pain" - Bob Marley
Burlak Terrible quote, and untrue.
Sometimes when music hits, I do cry buckets!
In the early 70s, PG introduced me to artistry, in the 80s he was my style guru, through it all a wise guide for living an honest life. And the outstanding music has worked into my consciousness and become the soundtrack of my inner life. It's impossible to over estimate the effect of this man on my life
"It's a big park..." That line of conversation are words to live by.
Love Peter Gabriel.. His falsetto is absolutely exquisite!!
If this conversation went on for hours, I would still be enrapt.
Peter Gabriel makes incredible music
I love that you guys picked a great composer of his time over a mainstream "musician". My faith in School of Life is forever restored.
was it ever destroyed?
+Victor Carvalho Never. I'm just confirming mine. ❤
*****
+Sonia Khatri I would consider Peter Gabriel pretty mainstream. But to me, that doesn't matter. He's still an excellent musician. Sometimes great people are mainstream. Sometimes they're not. It's irrelevant.
+Jaydoggy531 I'd say that he is known by pretty much every person that's activly looking for music from different times and people that lived in the 80's and became bombarded by Sledgehammer from MTV or the radio. But if you were born in the 90's and only listened to music on the radio you could be totally unaware of him. But yes, he is a great musician and that's what really matters.
I've heard it said, "few men have wisdom..and the few who do, even fewer listen to"... Thanks for this interview School of Life.
I was living at an ashram in India in 1986, building a recording studio. Hadn't heard any western music for 3 mths. We fired up the new studio. Someone came in with a new album from Peter & we put it on. 1st thing I heard was Red Rain and it blew me the F away! Thank you Peter!
Thank you so much for this film. I've enjoyed Peter Gabriel's music since the 80s and it's wonderful to hear him speak about music in this way. His music does seem to truly resonate emotionally for people (including myself).
I've enjoyed these discussions (such as the one with Nigella Lawson) because the subjects are thinking very deeply about their field and there is plenty of time given to get into the nitty gritty. Thanks again. I think I'll be rewatching this one.
I love you!
Peter Gabriel is one of my favorite singer/musician. This was a very excellent interview.
Peter Gabriel is an excellent choice - a very insightful man! I was most pleasantly surprised. Thank you, School Of Life, for the effort to actually get this wonderful composer/performer for a great interview!
Wonderful, but the conversation could have gone forever! Love Peter Gabriel,.and thanks Allen for bringing him to your table!!
This is a great interview. I have always been a Peter Gabriel fan.
Always loved Peter Gabriel - wonderful musician and human being. Great interview and channel. Thank you. ♡☆♡
Long Live Peter Gabriel!

i´m someone with depression problems and you´re videos keep me going. thank you
I only know him from 'Book of love' but it's enough for me to see this interview
+Richard Fuhs I only know him because he covered book of love from the magnetic field. but I'm such a huge school of life fan so here I am!
Alain de Botton is someone whose biography and philosophic perspective I am familiar with, not without reservations. Imagine my surprise happening upon this delightful, thoughtful conversation!!! Wonderful.
A wise man, thank you for sharing this wonderful conversation.
Peter Gabriel is my favorite. I wish I knew where his music can be listened to streaming these days. I have always appreciated the song, "Darkness." I wonder what it would sound like with the original vocal track and the New Blood instrumental track.
He's simply the best.
Cant stop listening to The Musical Box lately ❤❤
very sweet about his parents
Peter Gabriel was pretty much the first musician I was ever exposed to in my life. Thank you for sharing this, truly inspiring stuff!
Nice! One of my favorite musicians on one of my favorite CZcams channels. I love hearing these two talk.

Provocative conversation. Thank you.
Love this chat.Love Peter.Love his music, his voice, his intelligence and humility.Born on the 13th February like Peter.I think that impressed the woman I ended up marrying. She loved Peter.Thank you Peter for everything.
Lay Your Hands on Me, Come Talk To Me, San Jacinto, Secret World, In Your Eyes, Steam, Red Rain, Diggin’ in the Dirt, Biko, Hear That Voice Again, Mercy Street, … these songs to you I am forever in your debt…
I was 18 as i heard the first time Peter Gabriels music. From this time on i am an follower of his does - political and musical. My daughter also growed up with his music. We want miss him.
This is the best thing I ever seen or witnessed and watched
Here is the quote " A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us. That is my belief.” - Kafka
I found Mr.Gabriel very honest.
That's what I always thought when I heard his interviews. As honest as it is possible, but without hurting the other one.
That's a skill I do not possess.
Just brilliant ! Two people I admire so much
I am 62 and luckily I married a man at 18 he was 30. We didn't have children for six and then eight years but we were both lucky to be college and my husband a masters degree. We wrote with Robert martin French horn genius but he has none both of us forever. My name is Trina humble skipper my deceased this and was Brian dee humble. We were tremendous fans of Genesis. Luckily were got to know you peter grabriel under Phil Collins. Together you two were the best
Peter Gabriel is a musical genius. His new album i/o is a masterpiece.
I was really hoping Peter was going to stand up suddenly and belt out 'Apocalypse in 9/8.'
Yes, one can always dream.
This is new. I like it.
+TheLBkidd They did a bunch of talks like this in the early videos, if you look at the videos uploaded onto The School of Life channel by date you'll find them.
Superb.Thank you very much indeed.
Excellent talk!! Still excited for the new book!!
Always exploring the new and basics of music.
Wonderful, if only more music interviews took this sort of approach! I would love for the School of Life to consider making more content about music and such.
THANKS FOR THIS INTERVIEW 🙏 🙏 🙏 🕊️🕊️🕊️
I loved this so very much. Thanks, really.
Also, you should keep doing this kind of things! With musicians, painters, etc.
One of the best youtube channels and one of my favourite musicians. Perfection.
my favorite musician on my favorite philosophy channel!!!
The bonobo clip is one of the cornerstones of intelligence and a step towards the stair to peace and unity I've come across.
Inspiring person 😊
What a lovely conversation
He was talking about the healing journey many of us must take from our upbringing before anyone else in 'digging in the dirt, find the places that got hurt, open up the places I got hurt.'
I sincerely love what you do on this channel. Philosophy is not dead, music is our lifeblood, and ideas will carry out the future.
I'm finally home.
(PS: Please do more videos like this)
I would love to attend the school of life. It's becoming essential to my MWF routine. Coupled with a chromecast, a cup of coffee, and a notebook, it has opened up my mind tremendously. Thank you!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I Grieve is one of my favorite songs too.

Interesting and amazing
the most amazing human species & influential person to date that I have been fortunate to learn of * a true genious in many or all regards.
thanks a lot for this.
Panbanisha is better at the keys than me! ;) - awesome concept and great work from Peter
What a humble man.
Peter: an astute, heart-fathomed insight into a topic which is, at very least, a mainframe institution of remunerative channels which allow associative dispersion(s) of anxiousness and passive undertones to be expressly renounced in the Spirit of Sound which, always divinely congruent with Presence, allows the process of Life to be appreciated responsively and Illumined in the Crystalline, Auric Light of The Supreme Creator.
Great! I've been waiting for this. The event took place on Feb. 1, 2016.

Peter Gabriel and The School Of Life is not a combination I would of expected, but I guess tsol just got better when I thought it couldn't!
ps Foxtrot and lamb lies down on Broadway are two of his best works
but don't forget also " trespass "
And Trick of the Tail !
@@stephaniewhite5644 I don't think so, haha
Wish one day the Honor of performing with him🌎
awesome
This was great!
Thank you TSOL, this was a lovely dialogue. Two of my favorite people! Has anyone ever told you that you and Brian Eno resemble each other? I imagine that he would be an excellent guest to have on. He's incredibly intelligent and one of the most interesting people I've ever met. Any thoughts on this?
I wish I'd known that TSOL existed whilst I was in London for 8 years! Just moved back to the US 1 year ago, which is when I found your channel here.
Thanks again for the fantastic content!
+Global Citizen Yes! Brian Eno would be wonderful. And then Cormac McCarthy.
Peter is a very generous man.....would love to hear him do a bare bones acoustic album.....guitars...mandolins....violins....bouzoukis.....etc.....!!
É uma Pena não ter legenda para português, viva Peter!!!

Interesting !!!!!!
Oh! The bonobo keyboard thing makes me cry..
+Julian Walker ~ An elder of my former religion would accompany people singing in tongues in just that way; the same intuitive sense.
This is evidence that when music moves us, and seems so spiritual, its very profundity is in fact primal.
differous01 i am fascinated with how music is a language of it's own that has to do with the way relationships between audible frequencies speak to our nervous systems/brains in ways that evoke emotions...
so yes, it is primal, non verbal, intuitive -and yet it also correlates with a kind of physics and mathematics in a way that is so cool!
+Julian Walker Completely took my breath away...
Yes. It just might be that all life is sensual to the same harmonic principles.
M31NgC224 music is an emotional language! we share the same basic emotional as other mammals!
