Free Adobe Illustrator Tutorial 4 - Designing Leather Cutting Dies and Molds Direct Selection Tool

00:00 Introducing the die we will be designing today which is a snap on key ring. It is a key holder made of leather that can be snapped on a belt or bag or anything else.
02:25 Creating three basic rectangles.
03:40 Rounding the corners of the rectangles.
04:25 Introducing the direct selection tool.
05:10 Inspecting a rectangle's anchors and segments that are revealed using the direct selection tool.
05:45 Demonstrating how to take the rectangle apart through deleting anchors.
06:26 Removing anchors from our two basic rectangles and merging them together.
08:25 Bridging the gap between the two rectangles. We have to do it with the direct selection tool rather than the selection tool in order to not distort the shapes.
09:35 Grouping the rectangles into one shape.
09:55 Merging the third rectangle with the shape.
11:40 Making the rectangle transparent through properties - fill - none.
12:50 Introducing the pen tool. Deleting a segment inside of the shape by adding a new anchor to a segment and then deleting it.
13:20 Closing gaps inside the shape with two different techniques: We can either drag an anchor to extend a line using the direct selection tool, or use a part of a square to paste on the gap.
17:30 Adding three final circles to the shape.
