A friend has a 2003 Johnson 115 out board it keep over heating. Replace thermostat and water pump. Heads are not warped. What else could it be

Does it overheat in the water or just on ear muffs?

@@macklinjasper3802 Sorry I missed your reply. I would make sure water is coming out of the prop. Even is water is coming out of the tell-tail is may be an obstruction somewhere preventing it from circulating.
Another possibility is that the heat is being created by friction inside the block. Could be a ring or a failing camshaft bearing.

@@DC-et4li are you sure the special adapter inside the water pump housing was installed? It converts the pickup to smaller pipe size. the motors came in two pickup size pipes in the lower unit. My boat mechanic made that mistake. Huge difference in water flow. It is included in the kit but most people never open the housing to change it. or confirm the size.

Hello did you ever solve this issue. I’m having a similar one

Hello. On these Johnsons everything up to the intake manifold in the fuel delivery system is plastic and I discovered many of the parts were warped including allowing vacuum leaks. I replaced two bowls that were pretty bad and then used a heat gun to straighten the rest out. That helped quite a but. I also retimed them which helped with idle.

You can also put a piece of sandpaper on a peign of glass & true up your warped bowls that way - worked well on my 175hp evinrude👍
