    For me the most impressive thing about Djokovic's performance is that he found motivation and positivity out of nothing. Imagine you just got thrashed in the previous set, your opponent is hitting winners left and right, you can't win a point on return, nearly all your service games are being taken to deuce and you're facing a crucial break-point
    It takes real mental toughness to generate motivation from that situation

      @stelmanx7010 Pƙed 3 lety +82

      It was plain tactic, his intention was to save energy in the thrid set in order to get fresh into the fourth set. And he knew that if the match goes to the decider, fifth set it will be a peace of cake to win the match. As he is more fit than any other player on tour, he can continue to produce high level of tennis after a marathon of four hours of play. Have a look at the mechanics of strokes. Thiem consumes much more energy to generate power in his strokes.

      In reality it pushes you on the flow.. only presence of mind helps .. don't consider Nole's opponent an easy go , they are equivalent players with similar strategies at this level !!! It's really extra ordinary how a player molded himself to the situation and came up after a breakdown (both mental and physical) in the third set .. !!

    Djokovic playing against the crowd EVEN in Melbourne. The most underappreciated sportsmen in tennis. A mental rock and by the time he ends his career - the greatest of all time. He is the GOAT in my books even now. Just imagine how many GS's he would have had if he enjoyed nearly as much support as he rightfully deserves. He has been battling both the crowd and his opponents throughout his WHOLE career. Greatest of all time. Period.

      @heavybattle6650 Pƙed 3 lety +15

      @@Femaqui07 I mean that in the most positive way possible because I am a big fan of Djokovic. I absolutely think that this Bravo is much more of a mental game than actual praise. It shows Thiem that Djokovic is not bothered by his play, in fact he is so unbothered that he is perfectly okay with praising his opponent in the crucial set. Djokovic is not just a mental wall, he knows perfectly well how to mentally disturb his opponents as well.
      The same thing was crucial for the final tiebreak at the Wimbledon 2019 final. He asked for that (at first glance useless cause the ball was clearly in) challenge after Federer's first point because he knows that Federer is a mental weakling in these big moments (especially against Djokovic) and is easily disturbed, easily loses his rhythm and no offense to Fed fans but he has kind of an arrogant personality on court and in the next point, Federer just wasted the point with a half-assed, rushed half-volley, which basically lost him the match.
      So Djokovic is clearly a savage on the court in more than one way.

    Probably the most Djokovic has been pushed in AO since Stan did years ago...just seeing the latest finals just make me really hope Thiem somehow gets back to a form where he can win another Slam again.

    Djokovic fans-The fact that this crowd is so Pro-Thiem isn't a dig at Djokovic at all. In fact, it's the highest form of flattery they can give. Djokovic's dominance is so obvious-and assumed-that they just naturally cheer for the underdog (as crowds almost always do). They realize the likelihood of a complete blowout because of his greatness and simply want to see a competitive tennis match.
    Its wrong on the occasions when Djokovic (or his fans) play the victim card and claim they simply "hate him because he's great"

    Good final. Thiem, if i was playing like against Rafa in the quarters, would have made it. But like Medvedev in the last US Open final, he was close but not enough to beat the monster Djokovic. Remember guys that Djokovic, except for his injury in the US Open 2019 and his semi- final lost in the French Open 2019 against Thiem, won all grand slams he participated since Wimbledon 2018, a year and a half !
    As a Federer and Nadal fan i'm impressed. How Djokovic managed to keep up with the youngsters and outplayed the concurrence when he came back to an amazing level is truly a sensation. Sure, Federer did it in 2017, and Nadal as well serveral times, but remember the 2018 season : Federer was at the top, Nadal was dominating the clay like a beast as usual, and Djokovic was down n°20 and had a lot of personal problems.
    All specialists said that Djokovic could come back, but with 12 grand slams, he would bedefinetely outside the GOAT conversation. One year and half later, the guy has 17 grand slams, swept Nadal in straight sets in the OA 2019 final, and beat the most popular guy Federer who was playing godmode in the Wimbledon 2019 final ! Then he won an 8th australian open title in 12 years !!!
    Of course, it's not my favorite player. Of course it's the most popular guy on and off the court. Of course i prefer Federer style or Nadal attitude and crazy lift and defense. But Djokovic is the guy who really dominated the last decade of tennis, clearly. And he was the ONE, who slowly dominated both prime Nadal and Federer back in 2011- 2012.
    And i'm starting to think : well, he keeps up this quick speed, he can beat all the records in 2021 and 2022...

      It is sure looking like it. He is tied now in slams with Federer and Nadal leads all-time in weeks at number 1.
