You should come to Nepal :) Its totally different. Its a small country and also poor but Nepalese people are very kind and friendly. They greet someone they feel is new to the sociecty no matter if they are black or white ( nothing called racism) :)
I'm gonna try to explain a bit about showing two fingers at UK people.
Once upon a time, long long ago, there was a war between france and the united kingdoms, which i honestly don't remember because i'm so bad at history. They fought with swords, bows and shields. The french people were known to be good at archery, so whenever UK people captured some, they cut off the grooming and middle fingers so they couldn't use their bow again.
The action of showing these two fingers to british people means literally: "Hey look, I still have these two fingers. I can kill you."
So more than showing middle finger, it's most likely compared to a life threat, haha.

Things that I learned while traveling:
1. If you see your teacher at the airport, don't tell your Dad, or else he will come over and make you "socialize" with your teacher. So awkward..
2. If someone knocks your only coke out of your hand while bumping into you, don't bump into them back, or else you might get your phone taken away.
3. Don't sit in a plane seat that is in front of a toddler who will kick you for 11 hours straight.

I feel like you say that from personal experience. I can’t relate to any of those except for the first one because 1. I don’t drink coke and 2. I’d probably be the one sitting next to the toddler. I try to get my brother to stop but trust me it’s hard.
Honestly like I never saw any of my teachers at the airport but if i did I WOULD NEVER TALK TO THEM ITS SO AWKWARD . And it’s not just the airport it could be at any place

I do the pillow thing too!! I have this down feather pillow that I've had since I was 9 or 11 and it always has a zebra print pillowcase on it and I take it with me EVERYWHERE.

Haha I was just thinking this! I was born in austria, moved to albania until I was 3, then moved to Kosovo, and at 15 I moved to California. And my parents are from the USA so I was exposed to their culture as well as the ones of where I lived
Your last point is spot on. I've been studying cultural anthropology this semester, and it's amazing just to learn about different cultural values.

The backwards peace sign is an equivalent to swearing because in the middle age archers would get these fingers choped off when they commited a crime and so showing somebody those two fingers means something lige: F*** you I still can shoot my bow and arrow."
To add to that, it was the French taking English prisoners. They would just chop of the English's two fingers because then they would be useless, and sent them on their way. Two fingered swearing is like saying 'hah I didn't get my fingers bitches'.
Weird, that's the same prifin story I have heard for our (American) middle finger swear, at least similarly. :)

Where I live in the UK, two fingers is 100x worse than a middle finger. It's unspeakably rude.

Love traveling, wish I could get a job in traveling (no not a flight attendant), I go somewhere maybe six times a year, but airports and planes still stress me out so much!! You'd think I'd be ok with airports and planes by now, but nope! I know exactly how to handle airports and planes. Nothing bad has happened to me at airports, I've never missed a flight, it's just the most stressful thing in the world!
But the destination makes it all worth it!

I quickly figured out that last one when I moved to Russia at 13...I quickly learned to have no specific expectations regarding my travels, but instead to remain positive about going to a new country for the first time and patiently learning about that culture through immersion. No matter where I went, whether it was Barcelona or Hong Kong, if I did that, it felt like home in a matter of maybe 2 days. Now I live in a small town in Wisconsin, and I miss traveling so much...

That last big point tho. I recently started walking at a company that is run mostly by and for people from Africa. I'm only an admin assistant, so 95% of the time I'm in an office filing. But talking to the other admin in the office, Precious, I've learned so much on how different Botswana and England are and that I would probably seriously struggle somewhere so different.

One of the many things I admire about Lily is that she isn't just all words! I recently found out that she was in a kpop reaction video. I thought "ah one of my fav youtubers is going to watch kpop!". In the reaction video, Lily didn't even seem to care that the guys were wearing makeup and whatnot. She was just enjoying what was she was hearing and seeing. I know this might seem like a minor example..but to me, it speaks volumes about her ability to see norms as relative rather than universal.

I've travelled on my own twice to the same place and I stayed at my best friends house everytime I've gone. I never get homesick at all I guess.

The thing where putting two fingers up like that is rude in the UK originated from back in the olden days when we had wars with France and stuff like that and people used to cut those two fingers off enemy archers so that they couldn't shoot their bow. When you do the "V" thing with your fingers if your palm is facing the other person or camera it means "peace" but if you do it with the back of your hand facing the other person or the camera it means "victory"
