Compound V is my favourite of the two. I prefer a puzzle that is already controllable, and then adding faster lube to make it as fast as I'd like it. Compound V is definitely a great lube for that.
Compound X is made to make a faster cube controllable. Meaning the puzzle is too fast out of the box and you want to slow it down.
One problem I've found is that when you use a thick lube to slow puzzles down, over time they will dry out and leave a more than usual gummy feel in the puzzle and it slows down. As a result, you need to either clean the cube and re-lube, or speed it up with a faster lube.
I recommend them both, it really depends on what you're trying to do. Hopefully this video helps :)

I completely agree with you about 6 x 6's. I am frequently frustrated with them, I have bought 4 different ones including the X Man Shadow mentioned. I kept thinking I would find something that felt good, but have never been completely satisfied,always having problems with lock ups, pops, speed, etc. I think I will go ahead and buy the Cubicle Lab Yuxin Red and see how that works out. Any suggestions?

Compound v is slower than dnm, but it is smoother. It also smells good
