Here's how to start a party, any time, any where. Put on this song and then Superfreak by Rick James, and within those two songs, you will have women on the dance floor, quickly followed by the dudes, and the evening can proceed from there. At least back in the day.

My ex and I taught this to our 2 yr old daughter on the way to the airport for a getaway in 1994. So our chubby white daughter is singing "She's a Brick House' at the top of her lungs as we walk thru the Salt Lake City airport on a weekend that is out of school. It was full of very disapproving families. We sang right along with her. We danced too.

When I was young we used to say something is built like a brick shit house, meaning it's built well and made to last. That is what they mean here. The Commodores is of course, Lionel Ritchie's first band. Try them doing "Machine Gun" and "Night Shift" along with the great Lionel Ritchie songs which he did while with The Commodores, "Sail On", "Easy", "Lady", "Just To Be Close To You", "Three Times A Lady", and the incredible "Still".

One more. You gotta check out the most outrageous funk band of em all: One band with two identities, P-Funk, made up of Parliament and Funkadelic. They performed separately from each other. When they were Parliament, they played more standard r&b/funk songs, performing in more customary costumes of the time. When they were Funkadelic, they did some of the wildest titles imaginable in styles that ranged from hard-core funk to psychedelic, and their performances were spectacles of wild music and noise, visual effects and devices, crazed people wandering around the stage in diapers and mad costumes without having any obvious musical role, necessarily, and a seriously trippy connection between the audience and the band. You should listen to "One Nation Under a Groove" and "Maggot Brain." The new Smithsonian Museum of African-American History and Culture did a major exhibition related to Funkadelic, in which they displayed the original model of the Mother Ship, a space ship that lowered onto the stage and from which the band's leader George Clinton emerged in full costume to among smoke to start a concert.

Oh man!!!!! Thank you for playing this!!!! One of my absolute favs of The Commodores. They were awesome!!! In the 70's this was major dancing music. Watch Soul Train for some dancing moves for this one.

Yeah, we did dance to this, but it was 1977, the disco and funk era; tons of hits were well danceable. I mean, imagine this song played after the funk group Brick's 1977 hit "Dusic" and followed by disco-funk group Heatwave's 1976 hit "Boogie Nights" and you'll get some idea of what it was like back then. Hell, yeah, we were dancing.

Any song that gets ya moving like that, can't be bad. Brick House only means she's solid.

The Commodores are a great group. Lionel Richie was one of the leaders of the group. They had many hits. Night shift is a tribute song to both Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson who both were great musicians. Marvin is my favorite of all time

The Commodores are from my state of Alabama. (We have had many great artists come from our state.) Lionel Richie was their lead singer and a phenomenal song writer. He went on to a fabulous solo career.

I can see a fine looking girl in college everytime I here this song. In a disco, she had a killer red dress. It was full length, but the right side came past her knee. Bottom edge was lightly ruffled. Deep v-cut to about an inch above her belly bottom, no sleeves. Man, she could dance! Man did I drool while dancing with her!!!

Commodores easy, nightshift. You are right about what a brick house is.I saw them in concert minus Lionel and he really wasn't missed. A great show
