Yeah, its just a damn shame about the pushes he had and the booking. I think he was a good wrestler, but he was overexposed, and he held onto the belt to many times, for too long, with minimal pay-offs whenever he lost. If he'd had less reigns, but remained a pure heel, he'd have been better off. JBL, an asshole yes, but what a great villain! he was. So much character, presence, and he knew what he was, another great villain was Ted Dibiase, who criminally never won the title. HHH, was a Stone Cold clone, with longer hair, but his gimmick worked. Unlike Austin, however, HHH'S face turns mixed with his title reigns, muddied the waters and made for a boring, unlikable face. It's a shame, HHH had potential to be a truly great heel.

When he came back from the quad thing, he was still very good but he never was that level of worker again. And since 85% of his main event run occurred after that point, to make people believe he was the same, everyone had to constantly say he was the best in the business, in those words, over and over and over again. He said it, Flair said it while managing him, the commentators said it, every single babyface opponent was required to say it, and it was very forced. In a lot of ways he’s actually underrated, but he was made to look unbeatable in an era where it seemed like a bunch of other wrestlers who seemed more organically interesting were getting their knees cut out for seemingly the most trivial reasons. I think HHH best year, was the year 2000. His Street Fight against Cactus Jack at the Rumble 2000 is one of the best street Fights i have seen in that company. He had great chemistry with Rock and Austin and his Last Man Standing match against Jericho at Fully Loaded is very overlooked these days.
Yes, he was never "the guy" no matter how many times the WWE wants to say otherwise. But there is far more to Hunter then just being married into the Mcmahon family. He is a legit good worker.
