Depends. I think he should make the assumptions more clear, for example that one has to assume that the likelihood of f is uniformly distributed, which is a very big assumption that shouldnt be thrown under the carpet.

Thanks for explaining, but for the ones who want to know: With Leslie's doom there is a big 'if' we are not the first 5%. That number forces the solution.
With Carson's doom you fill in a probability of 1 for the Leslie's doom. That means that of course your solution is 99.9%. because P(a|b) is between 0 and 1.

The math is interesting, but you do have to make a LOT of assumptions for it to work. It also doesn’t determine whether we will ever go extinct or not, it just estimates when we would go extinct if we ever do.

Well, that is the point, isn't it? You use the statistics you already have to calculate a possible future. It's not set in stone, just speculation based on the past.
We don't live forever, so math uses that in its calculations to get to the conclusion it does.
Although I am far from an expert, I don't think it assumes it will work. It's just the most possible outcome based on the knowledge we have as of now.
The most interesting thing is that, Edgar knows everything, and that is why he is sleeping while PewDiePie explaining.

It's interesting, but after reading up more to make sure I understood, they don't work. To start with, you explained them pretty well. However, there's absolutely no basis to assume that we're not within the first 5% of humans. Secondly, unform distribution is assumed, which also has no basis. Humans aren't identical, unlike tanks which are intended to be. Later humans simply cannot exist without prior humans, whereas the existence of one tank is completely independent of the existence of another. The distribution just doesn't work.
The statistical methods are fine, numerically, but the figures mean absolutely nothing.

This. Statistics is cool, but it can't look into the chaotic future like a crystal ball. If you do the calculations 100,000 years ago you get a wildly different prediction than if you do them today.
To add to your point about the tanks, that method is used to determine approximately how many total tanks have already been produced, not how many tanks could ever be produced if given an arbitrarily long time to do so. Similarly, if the balls were multiplying in each box and you had to guess when they will stop, there is not enough information to give any coherent answer.
We can come up with an upper limit of the number of possible humans given known physics and cosmology, but anything below that upper limit and above the current-day estimate is anyone's guess, with some probability distribution in between.

This is based in The Law of Averages, which is not an actual law. We don't know how many people are left, so we are equally likely to be in the last 5% as the first 5%. The rest is circular.
Another way to think of it is that if we suddenly start being able to support higher populations, things will have improved, we would not have arbitrarily moved closer towards a pre-set doomsday.

Exactly, the doomsday equation is filled with speculation the 95% confidence interval mentioned here isn't accurate as there is more than likely either a type I or type II error occurring in the calculations
