I miss players nowadays which are "real" and have a unique character. 90ies and 00" were different gravy

Italy is always blessed with fantastic and resilient goalkeepers right from the day of dino zoff till today. But I have not seen an Italian player that is stronger and durable than Paulo maldini, very constant, calculative and consistent.

I remember this match , when Sacchi changed most of the starting 11 who won their 1st game against Russia. He was clearly overconfident and underestimating czech rep at that time

Coming here for this video, for some examples of tactical mistakes. I was a young naive teenager and the supporter of Gli Azzurri when this game happened, and got a hard time to handle the defeat. Didn't really know who were to be blamed, due to the lack of tactical knowledges at that time.
And I agree with you... Overconfident and underestimating the opponent is the recipe for disasterous defeat.

A shock result. I remember Casiraghi's miss at the end.

Italy would have made it to the second round without the hard headedness of Sacchi who left Baggio outside the squad list. Casiraghi missed the unmissable that day.

He deserved More than the accolades he got from football. But in football, the highest honours has always been given to attacker Or occasionally some midfielders.maldini was a great defender

Italy had Sacchi as chief trainer that has been one of the most overrated manager, that wanted to show that with his defensive tactics he was more important than the players

The only player in Italy's starting 11 without UCL trophy or without World Cup final at that moment was Chiesa, and he was amazing player.
