Whatever you are describing it was not Euro 96. Regularly cited alongside Euro 80 as the worst tournament. Knockouts were awful. Lack of goals. Overly defensive and lacking quality. Penalties everywhere Final was a let down too with a terrible winning goal

Alongside 2016 as argulably the worst Euros of my lifetime. Group stages were decent, especially the final rounds, but boy the knockouts were awful. Few goals, cagey defensive games and too many games petered out to penalties. The winning goal in the final summed up the competition as a whole

My own little personal bit of feedback is that it would be nice seeing a bit more build-up to the goals - for example, the pass and angle Gazza had to receive the ball from versus Scotland, etc. I might only be saying this because I love an assist!
