- In this video, I wanted to discuss some of the advantages of using an external foot switch, such as the BOSS FS-6 with the RC-505 over an external MIDI Controller.

I have an FS-6 and got tired of messing with the battery, so I just got a 9-volt battery adapter that connects to my AC adapter.
Also, if the Control Pedal 1/2 thing is a hassle, you can use a stereo Y-cable instead of the TSR cable and plug the ends into the separate jacks so that A is 1 and B is 2.

It's tricky and takes a lot of practice. Many loop artists make it seem easy... It isn't. But if there is will there is a way! 😁

Great! Useful video....just decided to purchase Nektar after your other review.....one thing: I think you can change the fs polarity if you want the assign to line up more intuitively w pedal order(control pedal 1/2). Thanks again!

Thank you, great tutorial. I have everything setup and it works but I get a short delay when starting a recording and ending the recorded loop so that whatever I try to record it's slightly out of time in the beginning/end. It's like I press the controller and it takes a fraction of a second to register in the 505. Thanks.

Hey mate, love all your tutorials. I'm looking for a combo of Boss FS-6 with HandSonic. For some reason both foot switches only progress the kit. In the Handsonic settings it's set to +/-, and the switches on back of the footswitch are all set to FS-U. The cable I'm using is TRS for A/B. Scratching my head otherwise! My ideal scenario is A progresses the kit, and B goes backward.

Hi Ben. I see in some of your videos, you're using botht the FS-6 and the Nektar Pacer with the RC-505. If I was to run the Nektar pacer, is there any advantage to also running a FS-6?

Hey Ben great stuff..is there only one input on the 505 for an FS-6 (compared to the 300 which has 2)? I need at least 4 capabilities at my feet... start/stop all, rec/play/overdub on a track, next phrase memory location, previous phrase memory location. The one thing I really want that the 505 has that my 300 lacks (mentioned in your other video) is a metronome voice. Without this, I create my own click tracks and put them on Track 3. But before I move to a 505, I need to know I can put all the features at my feet (too bad there's only a desktop version).

Hi! Could I use Marshall amp footswitch pedl 90010 with boss rc looper pedals??
It seems to me that now that you can save a "user set" within the RC-505 you can skip the "copy this preset to the other presets to copy the settings over" step. It looks like you can just load the User Set into the new preset. Am I right on this?
If I got the RC 505 do you think I could get by with a FS-6 or is the Nektar worth it/that much more useful?
Hi Ben, great video, Im looking for a new loop pedal and am still not sure whether I should get the 505 or 500. Im mostly just playing in my room, are the start/stop buttons usable by using your feet? (or even toes) I prefer not to use an additional midi footpedal due to limited space in my room. I think he said before that it is not built strong enough, that's why he uses the Nectar floor pedal to operate the rc505.
Yeah Steve is right! I've seen people using it on the floor. But I would highly suggest using a foot controller, makes it much easier. I have a couple of tutorial videos explaining how to set them up if your interested.

The unit seems rather fragile and plastic for floor use. I wouldn't do it.
Can you write with the memory mode and use the footswitch only for two tracks at the time, or all five?
I think you can do that with the mkii. I think I’m gonna upgrade. That alone is worth it but you can also assign effects to each individual track
Can I set one of this to start some particular effect to get quicker access to it? For example distortion, without scrolling it all the way to find this effect?

Those 3 quick effects A B C are just not enought if you ant to have dynamics in your performance.
when I do this, the footswitch works, but for some reason the metronome (one measure count in) doesn't trigger, and if it does it stops after recording (it is set to not do this I believe) how do I insure the count in works
I need 4 controls. When I assigned to 3 and 4 it just doubled up the effect. I was able to toggle between but I’d like a 4 switch controller
Hi Ben great channel, ermm I have question....I have a fs7 going into rc 505, I want button A to start recording channel 1 on looper and channel B to start recording channel 2 at same time, is this possible?

I have fs7 and 505 if you press them at the same time one starts recording and the other starts playback. if you press one it starts record, then when you press 2 it records while the other plays back.
Hey I have an issue with the drum volume defaults to 100 when your assign controller to all start and stop.
So, for every song I have to assign the pedal? Can I assign it for stop/start/ all song banks?
And the drum volume defaults to 100 on all play/stop. Ugh. Can’t fix this

@@MikaelLewisify what I found that worked for me is changing the session and go back to the time signature you need but again- changing the whole session
@@victoriadouton7618 so not possible to do 2 different time signatures in same song? For example, Pink Floyd’s money changes from 7/4 to 4/4 during guitar solo.
I typically just stay in 7/4 because it doesn’t seem possible to change time sigs within a son (on the RC505).
@@MikaelLewisify I couldn’t do in the same session. You gotta change the session and save presets of the same song in two different sessions and *save the different time measure
Can you set the second switch to toggle between all five channels on the RC505?
Thats what needs to be known... Also the FS7 boss pedal does work and in momentary with an external power source..

How do U start/stop recording with each of the 5 loops available? This video seems you can only do it with 1 loop, what about the other 4? I see pedal b U can assign to turn all 5 on and off, but how do U start/stop recording on loop 1,2,3,4 and 5 individually. I want to copy the start/stop buttons of all 5 loops from the rc505 to the floor? What's the best pedal to do this? I'm guessing it's a 6 button pedal with 5 seperate on/off plus an all 5 on/off? What's the best pedal for this please everyone. I'm a guitar player who wants to buy a keyboard with drum pads and do similar to Marc rebillet but add guitar as well, hence the need for foot control for the RC 505.
In the menu, there's a Target Track Rec/Play option, I selected that. When I press edit on whatever track to select it as target, but record reverts back to track one no matter what I move the target track to. Do you know how I can change this, so I can track hands free to multiple tracks and not just 1?

HI there. I want to switch from the EHX 4500 to the RC-505. I use the EHX footswitch for rec and play/stop. The EHX footswitch records the track that you have selected. I see you can assign the start/stop for the whole machine but can I do the same with rec function - select which the track I want on the RC-505 then the rec assigned button on the FS-6 can trigger it?
you can change the target track with your hands: by holding exit button and then clicking the track you want to be target. or with FS-6 by assigning function to it: Target track number increase

@@dmitriykamenskikh4517 OK I tried that. I can select the with exit /track. I have an fs7. I have assigned switch 2 (A on the fs7) to TGT TR REC/PLAY but it doesn't trigger recording. I've tried MOMENT and TOGGLE. No good. Do I need to set the targetmin/max? I know the fs7 works as I use CTRL1 for ALL START/STOP
@@OscarMicMusic No I don't think you need to change min and max parameter, because you need to use toggle mode. Try to check if the polarity and mode switches on the pedal are moved to the left?

Hey Ben, love your channel! Thanks for all the super helpful tutorials! I’m having a really bizarre issue when using my FS6 pedal with my RC505: I play along with the built-in rhythm/click, and when I use the FS6 Pedal A, it Triggers Track1 but ALSO changes the Rhythm Level (volume) from 0 to 100 on every other press. I have all the switches and settings exactly like in your video, have tried two different TRS cables, have powered off and back on, and have made sure I’m running software version 2.0.1. But no matter what I do, when I first hit Pedal A, it starts Track 1 playback and the Rhythm with its level at 100. If I stop playback and hit pedal A again, it triggers Track 1 and Rhtyhm, but sets Rhythm level to 0. Stop and repeat: triggers Track 1 with Rhythm level back at 100. Do you think I have a faulty pedal? Would love your thoughts! Thanks so much and have a good one!
just check "assign switch 3" and turn it off. by default it changes rhythm level 0100. I've had the same problem. So make sure you have assigned only switch 1 and 2

For some odd reason, when my foot switch is activated, it plays the metronome at FULL BLAST.... I have tried going in and turning the volume for the rhythm all the way down, and then it will jump right back to 100. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

not record/stop, but you can trigger play/record -- set your rc to be rec > play > overdub and then you can just manually stop it with an other footswitch just set to stop.
