  • It's a book, it has words. In this video I talk about those words with my own words. I think there's a word for that...a review? Probably not.

    Thanks so much for this great review! Glad you enjoyed it, and the glossy cover.
    There really is a lot of information in there lol, I learned a ton in the process myself.
    It is only available from Lulu at the moment, so no, not in hardcover. Further down the road there'll be an updated edition, with additional interviewees, so that'll be hardcover for sure.
    Thanks again, Mikey

    A great time to be alive in Los Angeles. I remember how the scene was very underground and how being in it felt like you were part of something very special and groundbreaking. Thank you for featuring this book.

      Cheers from OC.. yeah that OC, I'll be 150 years old this year, we were Death Rocker kid's for sure.. goth was Goth , no offense, just it was tough enough having to stick up for myself at all times, just wearing Creepers etc, couldn't image what those dudes survived in makeup and skirts.. Gang members, Jocks and Punks, Neo Skins.. we had to fight for it, made us mean a bit, but we earned it.. if you have any recommendations on modern Bands please.. let me know.. Alter of Eden for example.. peace from @∅

    Thank You... While at Vinyl Solution in HB, Jack of TSOL, called me a Death Rocker hahaha .. while I was holding Gate Fold Bauhaus collection.. always considered some of those songs .. Flowers by the Door as pure Death Rock..

    Very cool. Not much out there on that scene. Gonna have to look into picking a copy up. Thanks for making me aware!

    I loved this book. I was at the big release/show thing in LA last year and it was great.

    "The main bands are all in Phantoms: 45 Grave, Kommunity FK, Christian Death, Superheroines, Voodoo Church, and more. Additionally, there are chapters devoted to other bands that are (undeservedly) not as well known as the big guns: Nervous Gender, Red Wedding, Aphotic Culture, Die Schlaflosen, Radio Werewolf, Screams for Tina, Fade to Black, and many more. And there are the “fellow travelers,” too: Gun Club, Tex and the Horseheads, Flesheaters,"

    Excellent review! The formatting sounds like it might it frustrate me a little bit, but overall this sounds like a great book on a genre and scene that doesn’t have nearly enough!

      I never really stop. It's just the amount of time I have to chip away at them is often very minimal. I'm glad you enjoy

    Great review! Mikey spent years on this project, and Don Bolles did a great job compiling and editing. Thanks for doing this! Cat (Super Heroines).

    I feel like 45 graves are a horror punk, band that got lumped in the Deathrock scene because they were from LA

      As more Band genre tags are created...
      "Goth" being applied one example...
      To so many Bands, The Cure & Now even the Smiths.. Tagged as Goth...
      Deathrock.. fringe Punker Kids..
      Dr Martens vs Witch Buckle boots,
      Jean Jackets with patches buttons etc..
      vs Makeup and skirts that Goth Boys wore..
      My opinion is from Southern California..
      I will always be that DeathRocker kid...

    I think it would be really interesting, if not maybe kind of dull, to have a person by person account of events from my old bands. I say that just because I'm sure none of the events, as I see them, would match up to their views. I'll have to pic up that book and read about way more interesting/volatile people. lol

  • @bystanderbehindthescreen

    Odd question, could you tell me where did you bought that shirt and jacket you're wearing?

    • @doktorsanders
      @doktorsanders  Před 2 lety

      Honestly I have no idea. I've had both of them for like 5 years at least. The jacket is a really heavy winter coat

      Woooah this book sounds dope man, I love the realness of what you mentioned regarding there being so many differing perspectives from individuals in a music scene, very accurate, at least in the scenes I've been a part of. =P Some big names mentioned!! Would love to get a peek at their brains.
      Sounds info packed I'll try to get my hands on it after I'm not broke from getting my hands on so many albums lately and others I am still to obtain ahaha (one of which will be the collab you did). Also did you hear about the coming Rozz Williams - In His Own Words book/release?? Very keen to sus.

      @doktorsanders  Před 2 lety +1

      Everytime I do a bandcamp dive my wallet cries. I did look up that Rozz Book. It could turn out well if handled correctly. I'm actually still waiting on the Christian Death Indiegogo book that looks like it might arrive next year at this rate
