Shaq says LeBron getting scoring record will make him the GOAT - Skip & Shannon I NBA I UNDISPUTED

  • According to Shaquille O'Neal, LeBron James doesn’t have to win another title to become the GOAT. All the King simply has to do is pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer to go with the four championships he’s already got, and Shaq said he'll be cemented as quote 'the best player ever.' Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss how much they believe getting the record will help convince doubters that LeBron is the GOAT.

The narrative gets shaped like Jordan wasn't fully back yet when they lost in those playoffs, but in-fact his numbers were better that season in the playoffs across the board than they were the next season when they won the championship.
The difference was that they were weak inside, not Jordan's performance. The first 3-peat team had Grant for defense inside & the second had Rodman. Without those two, they didn't have the interior defense. Jordan can do a lot of things on the court, but he is not a versatile defender like LeBron for example. @@TheVashCross this is a heavily offensive minded NBA. Lebron has only played in 26 games… smh… of course he’s going to have higher numbers. He hasn’t even played enough games to be thrown into the calculations. Jordan at 40 played a full 82 games and was 20/5/5. In 2002, Jordan’s last year, Ray Allen led the league in 3’s made per game at 2.6. This season the highest leading scoring average per team is held by Utah at 116 and every team that follows is in the teens. In fact I couldn’t find the 2001-02 season points per team but in 2003-04 104 was the leading points per game but today you have to go all the way to no. 27 to get that same number. Change of pace and the addition of the 3 ball are going to up all the numbers. Inflation. Simple math. 20 points in 2001 is 27 today. Easily. Jordan would be right under Anthony Edwards and James Harden in today’s league. You guys just won’t stop.

Kareem wasn't nearly the all around player that LeBron is, and he wasn't even the best player on his team for a handful of those titles once Magic took over. LeBron is adding a record that people thought would never be broken, and he's doing it in a legitimate fashion while he's still one of the best players in the league.
There is a difference between breaking the scoring title by limping across, and actually breaking it while you're still great. LeBron is essentially averaging 29 ppg on a 52 fg%.

Matter of fact the NBA boom that caused actual athletes to start competing in the NBA happened because of MJ. So if anything that’s just another notch on his belt. He made the NBA a global sports org. He inspired talent not just in the US, but in countries all over. Lebron has too, so did Kobe but neither will ever be credited with popularizing the game.
