For some reason, I always thought Congo's Caper was something for DOS, but maybe I was thinking of Congo Bongo? I'm not sure, but either way, this looks like fun for what it is. I'll definitely pick up a copy if I come across it. Thanks for another interesting review!
It is pretty fun, and not too terribly difficult. Hope you get to try it soon!
Great review! I'd never heard of this one before, but the gameplay seems easy to get into and fun enough to hold a player's attention til the end. I was pleasantly surprised at your reveal that, while there IS a 'bigger bad' behind the main villain, you don't wanna reveal who it is. It's a good way to encourage players to pick it up.

I've tried this one before, because it's in between the Joe & Mac games, but never finished it for some reason; I think you've inspired me to do exactly that.

It's pretty hard but it's a great game
Great timing! I'm on a bit of a Joe & Mac marathon at the moment and I've had this on SNES Switch Online for a while but never got to it.

This is what you expect when a company known for arcade games wants to make a console mascot platformer. It doesn't have the limitations you normally see in arcade platformers (time, constantly being pushed forward), but it's still got a strong arcade look and feel.
Congo's Caper definitely has some appealing visuals, that's for sure!
@@quwebs It fits a late 1980's/early 1990's caveman style. It was probably inspired to some extent by B.C. comic strips mixed with Manga (for the Japanese games).
Data East had a lot of this starting with "Caveman Ugh-lympics" which they published for NES, but didn't originally create. This game looks most like their "Joe and Mac" game series, of course, with vivid arcade colors.

Hey that looks pretty cute! Not sure on the slot machine mechanics, I don't like things like lives and power ups being that arbitrary, maybe damage ranges but not that lol. Great review sir quwebbers!
Thank you! The slot machine is pretty inconsequential overall, it's just kind of a bonus if you happen to win it. It just felt so out of place in a caveman style game? 😆

Thankfully, enjoying Congo's Caper is easy because it's on Switch's SNES Online app! Though I bounced off of it in frustration at the falling platform over spikes stage because I had no idea you could run with the L/R buttons xD

It took me a bit to figure out the run buttons as well. I guess that's what I get for not reading the manual! 😆

I'm going to have to go back and play the Joe & Mac games, I remember having a lot of fun with them playing couch co-op back in the day!
Looks like one of those "solid platformers" that came out around the time of Sonic. I prefer 2d platformers to the 3d collectathons myself (its sacrelige, I know. But I dont like Mario 64 at all. I didnt back then and I dont now. I have Super Mario Odyssey on my switch and I still dont like 3d platformers)
So any good, fun retro 2d platformers are a win in my book. You should do Demons Crest for SNES abridged. Love to hear your take on that one - was one of my favorite games back then.

Quwebs. What is your target audience? Your presentation and delivery is for kids. Kids generally don't like retro games
