This game is BAD ASS. Truly an NES “hidden gem”.
God. I remember laughing my ass off with my buddy as a kid when they would go Cobra LALALALALA in the GI Joe movie. Had totally forgot about it until this vid. Now Im laughing my ass off again.
These videos are just the right length and the critique (good or bad) is fair, intelligent, and thoughtful. I think another reason I really like these documentaries is because in about 1989 or 1990 I got my original Game Boy and moved toward GB games and away from NES games. So I missed out on many NES titles that were not from a popular series. GB games were about half the price of NES, and, in my opinion, were just as engaging and good looking, even though they were pocket sized features. My GB game pak collection is over 4X the size of my NES collection.
That is high praise! Thanks so much not only for the kind words but for taking the time to check out my thoughts on the games that defined our childhood ❤️
My favorite NES game! I wish more people knew about this one. It's such a great platformer. The Atlantis Factor kept so much of the stuff from this, but for some reason they didn't keep the stats and characters having different guns as and stuff like that
Heck yeah! I had a lot of fun with this one! Go Joe! ❤️
I just beat this game last weekend with friend Tyler. We loved it while also lamenting the maze stages. 4/5 is a perfect score for this solid game.
Thats awesome, nice job Alan (and Tyler)! Thanks so much for checking out my thoughts! The mazes were at the very least effective 😆
I really enjoyed this game, and the other NES Joe game, even though I wasn't a big fan of G.I. Joe in general.
I always used Snake Eyes because I was (am?) a huge sucker for ninja.
Ah, 1991 GI Joe... Right before they moved to neon ridiculousness full-time and had to 'get tough, Yo Joe'. I remember Nintendo Power talking about this game in the Metal Storm issue and thinking it was really cool how many figures and vehicles they managed to include in the game.
Great review!
Thanks Mako!
I don't know the first thing about GI Joe, because as my username suggests, I wasn't exactly the target demographic, but I found this to be an incredibly solid game; great for fans and newcomers alike!
Agreed!
Great review! I absolutely LOVED GI Joe as a kid. I had so many of the little action figures too. This game is great and I like the sequel as well. Good job!!
Same here, I loved swapping all the arms and legs of my G.I. Joes and creating my own heroes 😊
I used to love this game as a kid. I've still got it, and I think I'm going to bust it out tonight and give it a go again.:)
Awesome! Good luck and... Yo Joe!
@@quwebs Yo, Joe!!!!
It would be a 10/5 game if it had the greatest Joe of all time... CHUCKLES.
Though including him would also make the game a cakewalk. Maybe keep him as a completion bonus, like the Foam Finger from Dead Space.
Thanks Quwebs: A Real American Hero, that was a cool review :D Maybe Joe's to be had!
Thanks refraction!
I award this video a REAL American 5, out of 5!
Haha hey that's my line!
To refer to this one as simply Gijoe and the sequel as simply Atlantis factor would have been easier =p
I love both gijoe games, and finished them on the old nes rental days. I had range viper, laser viper and the Golobulus cobra-la pack so I loved to see them in the game. The devs could have easily done a contra clone but de used to give more platform and strategy to which character to pick. Yeah the action is minor compared to contra, but the sense of exploration is there. Also lot of bosses!! Even if some are very simple, the fact that they put effort to include many as possible is a good thing.
The rating on this one is totally spot on!
But then I wouldn't be able to say "A Real American Hero" a million times! 😆
A good rental back in the day.
I sadly never rented it back then. No idea why!
Sweet!
Raptor is an accountant actually.
Oh my gosh, that is hilarious - he actually was a "financial consultant" 😆
@@quwebs Yep. In the comics he used his financial prowess to track down one of the 'Joe's hidden bases using pay records if I recall correctly. Larry Hama is an amazing writer.
I've been generally wary of licensed games, but this one looks well put-together! Would you say the Atlantis Factor is even better, or should we stay tuned to find out?
I would say stay tuned! 😊
Atlantis Factor is all right but it was made by a different developer. The shooting action is roughly the same but what annoyed me the most is that you do not get to pick your characters at the beginning of the game and have to unlock them as you move forward
Not to be "that guy" (you know when someone says that they're totally about to be "that guy") but both G.I. Joe games were in fact developed by KID! They just had different publishers (Taxan/Capcom).
@@quwebs It's all good! That is a fair point. It's easy to confuse the two at times, especially with old-school games
Absolutely! I am a big fan of KID (both the good and the bad) so I'll be sharing my thoughts on the Atlantis Factor sometime soon!
Cobralalalalalalalalala!!!
Too bad this is another game that was effected by the overpriced bug…
I feel like we're living that overpriced thing right now, Chris! Gotta snag those deals when you spot em.
