- This is a heartwarming story of a cat who's significantly impacted our video game studio, both in real life and in-game.
Back in October, when we released the pet update video, the team came up with an idea to make a behind-the-scenes story about Banjo, an in-real-life cat that has helped our studio along the way. A lot of players expressed their interests at that time, so here we made it :)
Banjo was a feral cat that loved chasing mice and cuddling with our employees in the office. The kitten later became the inspiration behind our in-game pet character. Watch the video till the end to find out the adorable story of Banjo.

Did you provide a cozy home for Banjo in Sandrock, and who's your favorite pet in town?
Nemo, Banjo and the meerkat are my favorites, but I love them all. (Although Macchiato's eyes creep me out)
Nemo and Banjo are the only two living with me, for now.( The pet houses are so big 😣)
I love Banjo but my favorite pet is Coco, mostly because of X and its mission (they are so cute 🥰)
I adopted Macchiato so far, but Banjo, the meerkat and Captain are probably my favorites.
You can't spring the question of "Who is my favorite" because all of them are. I love Banjo for his intro and because of the look he has, just screams classic cat and I love it. I love Macchiato because of the ditzy look on them. Coco because of X and because of how unique they are. The Meerkat because we heal them back to health and gain their trust. Nemo because he's such a good boy who follows you around. And I love the fox cause it's sooooo adorable

I love you guys so much ❤️ I never felt so close to a "video game studio" before, but you put so much love in my time at Portia and now in my time at sandrock I can feel it all the time while playing both games. I am a cat lover in real life so of course I adopted Banjo and Macchiato. I've tried to get Captain too but the game won't let me adopt him. 😢

Fell in love with Banjo in the games, knowing he's a real cat and now has a forever home is heart warming. For one kitty it was hard to love and feel loved by dozens of people who came to work, but now, it's probably easier for Banjo to feel truly at home. It was a hard choice, but the right one for Banjo. Immortalizing him and sharing him with us in the game was also a great choice. I'm gonna bring him home with me in the game as well. Give the real Banjo a good head pat just for me.
