My Time at Sandrock - character creation: dealing with colors

- Recreating my character from the latest Let's Play series and trying to explain how I deal with the confusing beast that is BLUSH, and generally with the fact that colors during character creation tend to look a bit different than in the game itself (because of the lighting). I'm not very good at explaining, so bare with me :D

I found out about making the pupils smaller the hard way. My builder looks like she's just had an eye exam, especially compared to the other characters. Oh, well, I'll know better next time.
I'm going to try your eye shadow trick next playthrough--thank you! I ended up using a very subtle mauve shade, and it worked but I couldn't figure out how to make it look like eye liner.
I, also, had to fiddle with the lipstick forever to get a natural tone.

This is wonderful! Thank you for doing this! I always wind up spending a ton of Gols at Pablo's later on to fix my horrible blush and lipstick choices. Your explanation and examples have helped me make sense of what's going on between creation and actual in game lighting.

@Amaryllis-Hyacinth Fang's hair color is a bit of a mystery, really 😄 I think oficially it's described as brown or dark brown. In reality it's kind of... warm grey with hints of muted purple. But my brain keeps insisting Fang's hair is black 🙂 I can clearly see it is not, especially when compared to X's feathers, but my brain is very convinced 😅
OMG, I have wanted my character to have darker tanned looking skin every time I create her and I can't ever seem to achieve it. THANK YOU! I did it with your help.

Hopefully it'll be more polished on the switch by the time I finish Portia but for now I'm happy to just keep treating myself to your videos (and avoiding spoilers!) 😊
Pro tip for you all that I just found out: When you get access to the hair salon (which isnt that far into the game, promise), you can change your hair colour and make-up and it ACTUALLY looks like the colour you are choosing. So for character creation, focus on your facial shape etc. (since you cannot change it later? or at least I havent reached that point yet) and eye colour, but for hair and lips etc. try to choose something bearable (the darker the better) until you get to the hair salon. There you can pick your actual hair colour and make up in no time without much experimenting. :)
Great tips for the makeup and the psa to make your colors slightly darker than you actually want because they are lighter in game.
Blonde hair was also hours of experimenting for me to get it natural looking but also so the eyebrows don't look like they were drawn on with a highlighter 😂
Oh, blonde hair is its own horror story. My husband's character is usually blonde, but what he ends up with is more green than anything else.

i'm not sure if they patched something with the shader in the meantime, as the womans banadan in the background is blight blue for me too, but i cannot replicate your skin color tone, even with exactly the same slider position.
i struggle so much to make a good tan that doesn't feel washed out
I lost a lot of time for doing a character I enjoy it a lot, as someone who is make up artist. I can’t stop my self to make my character. Simple but beautiful. Someone who is playing a dress up game. I’ve been careful to pair whoever who I want to romance, I want my character to be able to fit the looks; whoever I go. Hahaha
I make my character to have olive skintone, and it looks so off in gameplay lol
I restarted so many times bc my character was cute in character creation and clownish in game 😂 I ended up refunding the game but the char creation hair options were nice since they allowed you to customize different sections
