Even in the legends and Canon stories jedis augment all their senses and abilities they can react and move at the speed of sound and even thought that sometimes not a lot of bullets today travel around about the speed of sound so a Jedi can most definitely block and dodge current bullets
And considering that laser weapons I just as fast or even faster than our current weapons until that the jedis are dodging them it's just that they are radiated by light where the bullets are not smaller when they come out and it's almost impossible for the Iman I to pick up on the bullets coming at you and but if you have the force you're most likely can

The blasters, both in Star Wars and SG1, do have one advantage; battle endurance. They mentioned this in the SG1 episode I referenced. Earth weapons need to be reloaded pretty frequently compared to energy weapons. Alan touches on this in this video.

    • @borsniel7767
      @borsniel7767 Před 6 lety +34

fraggenaught is right, this is also touched on in the deahworlder series on HFY. energy weapons are a logistical boon for major military forces due to the fact that a single solider can carry far more ammo with far less weight then someone with a regular firearm. this eases up pressure on supply lines and allows for a faster overall force as your infantry wont be weighed down as much. on an individual level the slug thrower is a far superior weapon system and is personaly what i would carry, however if i was arming a force of platoon size or greater it would be blasters all the way.

When the Jedi first attacked Mandalore, the Mandalorians used blasters until they realized that the Jedi kept reflecting the bolts back at the shooter. They swapped to the Star Wars equivalent of a firearm and fought the Jedi with those. When the Jedi tried to deflect the slugs, they just melted and turned into shrapnel and shredded the Jedi's faces.

@Jerrol Hale Just because the armour itself is damaged does not mean the person wearing it is. For example many modern day plate carriers suffer catastrophic damage after taking a few rounds. Yet the soldiers wearing them often suffer little more than bruising and or cracked bones. Painful certainty but not lethal in the slightest.

Not really, assuming you mean that the rebels intend to kill the stormtroopers. Most rebel troops were simple people, not hardened killers, and not having to deal with another’s death is an easy choice. If anything, knowing that your enemy is likely to not kill you would make the average stormtrooper go easy on the average rebel (we all know about their infamous aim) which is a plus for the rebel side who can’t necessarily afford proper armor.

The Bryar Pistol is shit, wouldn’t work against Jedi with either fire mode. I missed it when Academy came out :(
The E-11 if you use the alt fire can actually spray down a reborn pretty well. He’ll deflect some shots, but a lot will get through.
The Disruptor (Sniper) Rifle seems good, but those fuckin Jedi just matrix dodge it. You can do the same though by holding the use key and inputting a movement direction.
The Imperial Repeater (big fuckin machine gun) wont hit anything with those projectiles because what actually manages to hit the target is deflected in groups, but the alt fire will wreck a fool because they can’t block or push it back.
The DEMP (weird electric gun) can hit Jedi with the alt fire since they get caught in the zap radius.
The Golan Arms Flechette rifle is insane. Don’t use the secondary fire unless you have high ground, but the regular shot will do decent chip damage because they can’t block every flechette. I’ve been one shot with it before
      Fuck the rocket launcher.
And yeah basically all the grenades are useless. They’ll push TD’s back at you, push trip mines to activate them, and push det packs to detonate them.

If you're a soldier in a theater of war, rifle rounds are your biggest concern, so you'd go with plate armor. It's not likely you'd use ar500 plates, though. They are far too heavy. Modern soldiers wear ceramic plates that will dissipate the bullets energy and stop the round. They shatter upon impact though, so need to be replaced once they've been hit.

    Counter argument:
Using a projectile based weapon, even a fully automatic heavy machine gun, against an experienced force user may essentially be suicide if they are aware of your presence (and they usually are). They might not be able to absorb, deflect, or even reflect the the ammunition back with a saber at you like they do with blaster bolts, but Jedi and Sith alike have proven to have extraordinary telekinetic command over any physical object large or small. If you were to fire an entire box of ammo directly at a Jedi I don't see why they couldn't essentially raise their hand, use their force power to place a stasis field in front of them of sorts, and do pretty much exactly what Neo did in the end of The Matrix by just... holding all the bullets in place in mid-air until you're done firing, then potentially using a force push to throw all those projectiles back at you in equal terminal velocity all at once like the world's largest shotgun blast.
A note about armor and materials in the start wars universe as well: Star Wars does take place in a Galaxy "far far away" which means all the metals and materials you are seeing everyone use are not metals or materials comparable to what WE have available on OUR planet. Things like copper, aluminium, or even iron might not exist in the same way in the Star Wars galaxy as it does ours, and the materials that DO exist that would be used in a similar manner may in fact have some very different properties than anything we might be familiar with. Heavy alloys like Durasteel are what a majority of armors and infrastructure are made of in the Star Wars universe, as well as even more advanced materials like Bescar in Mandalorian armor or cortosis-weaves that allow extreme resilience to energy and heat. These materials and alloys, even the non-metallic elements like Plasteel (which Darth Vader's helmet is made of), are highly advanced beyond much of our technological understanding and inevitably may hold up just as well against projectile weapons like firearms as they do against energy based weapons such as blasters. We simply don't know.
Its also worth noting that you don't see someone directly hit by a blaster (as in Skin or fabric contact, not armor contact) survive very often. Because blasters are an energy based weapon not and not a kinetic one, I have a theory that Blasters are anti-personnel weapons more than anything else. Accuracy and precision in a firearm matters very, very much, because the main damage from your projectile comes from penetration at high velocities, meaning that in order to kill someone you need to target vital areas of the body were sensitive and important organs are located and can be destroyed. If you get shot in the foot with a 50. Cal bullet, you will no longer have a foot, but you may survive.. if you get shot in the chest with the same round, you will not survive. This may not matter as much with a blaster, because it truly is an ENERGY based weapon, which means that on contact with the skin it may damage the impact area of course, but the human body is highly conductive, and its very possible the energy from a blaster bolt is dispersed through a targets entire body, not just the place of impact... meaning its very possible that if you get shot in the foot with a blaster, you may very well still die almost immediately. This would make accuracy and precision less important factors in Blasters than they are in Firearms, and also may explain why stormtroopers seem to prioritize rapid fire over accuracy in the movies.
The argument against Tibanna Gas and its unstable nature is partially warranted, but in the form of Blaster ammunition itself it may not be anywhere near as deadly, volatile, or dangerous to handle as you might be expecting. The reason I say this is because in our REAL history the US Military made the exact same argument when they switched from muzzle loaded firearms to cartridge based firearms. Before the the mid to late 1800's all firearms were loaded by loading in your gunpowder and ammunition separately down the front muzzle of the firearm. Though this was out of technological necessity at the time, when a cartridge based ammunition was finally designed that contained your gunpowder and your projectile at the same time, the military was really hesitant in adopting it, as they were concerned the ammunition could ignite outside the firearm and cause the person carrying the ammunition to either be severely injured or die. This was a valid concern on paper, but as we found out, it wasn't as warranted as they initially thought, discovering that it was actually very, very rare for munitions to critically fail outside the firearm it is supposed to be loaded into, and even when it did the damage an exploded round of ammunition could do didn't really have enough energy outside the firearm to be of real concern. I imagine Tibanna Gas based ammunition may have some similar factors at play.
On the flipside, if you were to use a blaster in our modern world or if you were a special ops solider or an assassin of some kind, a blaster does have one interesting upside that regular firearms do not have... tracelessness. There is no projectile or round to be found at crime scene based around blaster fire. All of it is energy base, and therefore there are no forensics that can be done to trace were a projectile may have originated. This doesn't matter as much in a large scale battle, but as a smuggler or someone in an occupation that does not wish to attract attention from authorities, a blaster would be a weapon you would be able to use freely and not worry as much about evidence left behind.
Anyway, that's counterarguement/short novel. Personally.... I'd much prefer the Zerg industries ZF-1.

    • @seabasswallyworld

The reason why slug throwers never had much development beyond what they are is mainly because of the ancient Rakatan Infinite Empire, who enslaved all the alien species they came in contact with, including humans. They were the first to invent the hyperdrive, starships, blasters, pretty much all the base technologies of the Star Wars universe. Those trillions of human and alien slaves? They took their masters creations and turned it against them when the Rakatans also lost their force sensitivity which weakened them greatly (their tech was mostly based from the dark side of the force). Kinda easy to skip past guns when you can steal incredibly advanced tech that's already made for you.

You calculate the drop of your projectiles, spread and then use a machinegun/section of machineguns to rain down a cone of death on a designated map coordinate. Much like artillery you can destroy or deny the enemy without committing your own troops to potential losses.
The most terrifying thing is that by this stage the bullets are traveling so slow they do not make a noise. So suddenly people just start dying.

Blaster bolts aren't slow, and lightsabres can deflect slug throwers. The blaster than can switch between positive and negative charges argument is also nonsense as it shows that the person who came up with it has no understanding of lightsabres.
Lightsabres are more of a mystical weapon than a technological one, and their ability to deflect blaster bolts has nothing to do with the technological parts and everything to do with the mystical elements. Hence why some of the precursors to lightsabres, such as the swords (and other close combat weapons) made by the ancient Je'Daii and the Sith Alchemical swords (which have no technological components) can also deflect blaster bolts.

Which means less area to scan for hostile targets. Similar to what modern US troops had to do in Iraq and Afghanistan.

They say they're more advanced, but dont give a reason why beyond "it's a laser gun". Like he said: specialized ammo types, range, durability, ease of repair, sheer stopping power, time to impact, extended automatic fire, even the odds of a kill are better with a projectile. If you shoot a guy and he doesnt die right away, he might bleed out because it doesnt cauterize the wound (keeping enemies alive in a war is detrimental). And your bullet doesnt have a chance of exploding if you drop it. These are all things firearms do better. You cant use the EU to save you from this, the expanded universe was disbanded. What we're now left with are op flash lights that are redundant until you reach anti vehicle weaponry, and even then it'd most likely need to be mounted on a vehicle itself. Blasters are cool and flashy, but not scientifically sound as far as a general infantry weapon goes. That's why its science fantasy instead of science fiction. Because it's not grounded in reality. Which is ok. I dont know why star wars fans need their franchise to be the best at everything all the time. It's not. It lacks in a lot of areas. Almost any that involve common sense actually. It’s like Necron ships in 40k not using shields because they’re used to weapons so high tech that shields would just be redundant, so when humans basically „throw rocks“ at them(torpedoes, cannons) the lack of shields just allows these weapons to be hella effective.

These guys are 1000X more advanced than us, you don't think they can propel a bolt faster than a human can throw a ball? Even a 14 year old can dodge that, yet trained troopers in SW can't. This leads me to believe that blaster bolts are actually faster than they appear on screen. Also, you can't see bullets yes, but that's because they are small and not very bright. Blaster bolts are bright as hell, put a tracer on a bullet and they appear to move around the same speed as a blaster bolt.

    • @Brendan-kx8iy
      @Brendan-kx8iy Před 4 lety

@@Ally5141 Also, Jedi can dodge a rifle round because they don't need to react to the gun, they aren't batters waiting for the ball to come. They have Precognition and know where you are going to fire a bullet or bolt before you even pull the trigger.

When it comes to real life guns I find myself really admiring the Steyr AUG. Its versatile and modular, its reliable, alot of the parts could be 3D printed because of how it was made, the bullpup design means you can acquire targets quickly and stay on target for longer without getting tired, there is evidently very little recoil, you can instantly switch barrels without needing any tools out in the field, the simplistic design makes cleaning easy, the proprietary magazines last longer than STANAG mags (but you can still use M4/AR15 ones with the NATO stock), the short stroke gas piston means it handles heat better than an M4 AND its adjustable so you can still fire it with low quality ammo without it jamming, the bullpup layout also means you can fit a long barrel in a small space, and imo it just looks awesome.
The downsides are its expensive, parts arent impossible to get but still not as easy to get as for an AR15/M16, some people just hate bullpups for various reasons, and the stock trigger is about 9lbs so not great.

I’m late, but I can explain what’d happen to a bullet on contact with a lightsaber!
The tip of the bullet would sublimate (solid -> gas) due to the heat of the lightsaber, but this would happen nearly instantly, causing a small layer of vapor formed by the rapid melting and evaporation. This is the Leidenfrost effect, caused by the substance (the metal) being instantly flashed into vapor. Said vapor would slightly alter the course of the bullet, turning it so that it passes through the lightsaber mostly intact and flies off somewhat randomly. It would still hit almost as hard as a normal bullet, and wouldn’t fly too far off course. It would still keep heading towards the Jedi’s side of the battlefield, that’s for sure.
