I keep making recommendation comments to Smosh videos that they should do a funeral for Defy media. Someone contributed to my idea by saying that Shayne should bring Dave Dilford into the video. I really want this to happen 😭
@@notjustlaura6708 that’s what I was thinking too lol. It would be incredibly cathartic for them lol. It's actually a Keith Richman. They said so in an episode of Quiplash. They sort of censored it but did a bad job of it and I suspect it was done badly on purpose. This guy also is on the board of GrubHub.
ian initially at a normal posture at the questions then slowly getting into his uncomfortable eye scratch and PTSD hunch is what killed me edit: first of all thanks for the 100 likes, but ian’s gaze averting was also everything. it’s like seeing a fight happen in front of you of you while also not trying to catch the smoke, but really it’s just the PTSD
Sometimes i forget that Shayne was in the trenches of Defy with Ian right from the beginning, this must have been just as triggering for him as it was for Ian
Probably not as much. From what they've all have said, Ian and Anthony (and later Ian alone) took a lot of the brunt of it and tried to shield the team as much as possible. Shayne will have experienced the general bad vibe and choices but not all of the stuff Ian had to.
I realize that shayne's "making giggles for 8 year olds" was not only why they were so popular for 2010s but why they were unhappy. They couldn't be as mature, they were stuck making content for early teens, they clearly had to be a character, and same for Games in that time. And it became not fun and it went so far that anthony quit. But at the same time they were doing VERY well, so while people think "old smosh used to be better" for mid 2010s.... it's because it was written for you to like it because of your age.
EXACTLY! I think that’s also what killed smosh, because I think if smosh was doing the type of skits they do now like 5-7 years ago they wouldn’t have been called “childish”. I love smosh tho so they could upload 10 hours of shayne and Damien staring at a wall and I’d watch it 😂😂
You hit it square on the head. Most if not all of their demographic in the early 2010s was 7-12 year olds. Thats when I started watching them, anyway. We grew out of it, but Anthony and Ian couldn't, since most of their fanbase was still in that age group and they'd risk losing most of their fanbase if their humour matured alongside the channel.
Shayne said in the podcast that around the time that Defy went under Smosh was doing some of its biggest ever numbers and also Defy was the worst place to work as a creative
His real name is Keith Richman, though. They said it in one of the Quiplash videos during quarantine; it was censored, but for a fraction of a second, I could see it
We all know from Ian's reaction that Shayne is nailing this, but I'd like to point out you can also tell from Shayne's performance and this is so accurate because it was filled with spite. Like he wanted to make fun of this guy so accurately that it couldn't be denied
It sucks what Smosh and everyone else that worked with Defy had to go through after they went bankrupt, but at least they're with Mythical now and working with actual CZcamsrs that understand there position and where they're coming from and they hopefully won't have to deal with with anymore Dave Dilfords ever again.

This man’s actual name (Shayne changed it for obvious reasons) was/is Keith Richman. I mean Dave Dilford is fitting, both three syllables, both act like a total dill, you know, the works! We never actually saw this person and yet we can tell Shayne is nailing the impression of him
I googled him: yup, same shirt!
We all have met this type of person before
Ian's very visible discomfort tells us how accurate this is.
Yeah, Ian even says it at the beginning of the video
