How to: Bonsai Stone Planting (Saikei)

In this Bonsai stone planting tutorial, I will show you how to make a Stone Planting with easily accessible materials you can find at your local aquarium and hardware stores.
Stone Planting is a form of Bonsai with that you try to imitate a cliff or mountain side with trees and fauna growing on. They look extremely impressive even after first creating them - which is unusual in Bonsai practice. With this tutorial you will be able to create a Stone Planting like the one I am showing you here in about 2 hours of work.
The materials I used are:
- Ficus Benjamina Trees (found cheap at a local hardware store)
- Seiryu Rocks (found at a local aquarium store)
- a little fern (hardware store)
- muck (keto tsuchi and silt, ordered online from a Bonsai shop)
- Pumice
- moss I collected outside

Hey there - I recently made a shorts video where I show some of my trees. There you can see that it is alive and well. Other than that I don’t think I will be keeping it much longer. There will definitely be more stone plantings in the future, I will try to go for some with more mature trees now :)
