    Drove one for 8000+kms through a Euro roadtrip in 2017, easily kept up with a Focus RS on the Autobahn in Germany, had a blast following a Lambo and Ferrari through the Italian Dolimites alpine passes, and overall was an amazing and surprising car! Agree with everything you've said, was comfortable on the 8 hour drives, had a ton of power and was well behaved on twisty roads, and super easy when traversing city roads though Milan or Paris etc. I had the acropovich exhaust and it sounded epic :)

      @@lilbenztruck Can't recall to be honest, from memory it was pretty good, but not as good as a 2001 TRD Celica I owned at the time. I know I filled up just outside Wannsum Netherlands, then drove at about 180-190ish km/h across Germany and had to fill up just before Leipzig before carrying on to Prague. 180-190km/h seemed to be the engines sweet spot in top gear for faster cruising...

    I went to have a look at phase 1 200 EDC yesterday. I must say that as soon as I fired the car up I was really impressed with how the engine worked. At first I had listened to a lot of reporters judging the car on its gearbox, but it seems like now, everyone wants these Clios, since they're very easy to modify and tune, even Renault Sport offer tuning parts for them.
    At first I didn't look at them as I never thought they'll be sought after like the older generations of the RS, but now my vision on them has changed. I'm gutted I didn't ask the dealer for a test-drive, but I was blown away when I fired it up. And it didn't have an Akrapovic on!

    A very useable everyday drive, but also a hoot for a blast down a twisty road. The twin clutch box is the way to go, most super cars have had them fitted for years, manual box is old hat these days. Give it a Map and she flies.

    • @CarswithJay
      @CarswithJay  Před 4 lety +6

      Manual maybe old hat but it has a certain flare that the Dual Clutches or Autos in general don't give you all the time. I had this problem with the GOLF R, S3 and BMW M2. All I prefer in manual as a weekend/special drive. Day to day yes the autos are better suited.

    Renault addressed the issue of adjusting the EDC software to make it more responsive in the trophy version.. also engine is co-deceloped with Nissan. The press unfairly critisied the Megan RS when it came out.

    My local French car specialist said to avoid the DCT at all costs, due to reliability. Followed by the 208GTi.. that's worse.. his advice was to buy a Clio with a clutch pedal (I did have one, and reliability was fine)

    Had this car after Megane 265 and 275. I put about 13 000 km on one in summer of 2017 and another 13k in summer 2018. For me it did not compare to the Megane, seat position much higher, lack of manual transmission. It was quite nimble through the corners but it definitely didn't have the grip of the Megane. Biggest issue that annoyed me was the lack of power at high speeds. It was quite lacking in it above 150 kph and above 200 it started to really run out of juice. Still, I had a lot of fun with it for those two summers.
