  • Lotus has finally managed to cram the strongest version of its 3,5 litre supercharged V6 into the Exige. The resulting Exige Cup 430 is the fastest street-legal car the British manufacturer has ever made. It combines 430 hp and 325 lbft with a kerb weight of only 1056 kilograms. Zero to 100 km/h is dealt with in 3,3 seconds and after that the Exige Cup 430 pushes on to a top speed of 290 km/h. Is all that power controllable? Autovisie editor Dries van den Elzen finds out on the Lotus test track.

      Do it :D
      Maybe not a 430 yet though. A 350 for around 30k is probably not going to lose any value now. They are still really quick and you can tune them pretty easily. The biggest difference really with the 430 is much more downforce (and you need the extra power to overcome it). The 350 still gets to 60 in under 4 seconds.

    I love the fact that Lotus uses a proper manual transmission instead of using flappy paddles, for much more driver fun and engagement.

    • @449Raphael
      @449Raphael Před 4 lety +1

      No, it doesn't. It steers perfectly with two fingers while driving. Look at Seb delannoy with his 380 Exige on the mountain roads around Monaco.

    • @BlatentlyFakeName
      @BlatentlyFakeName Před 3 lety +1

      You don't need power steering on a car this light. It numbs the steering and you lose a lot of feel. Once you drive a Lotus you realise just how much feel has been lost in modern sports cars.
      If anything Porsche should make their cars [a lot] lighter and remove it.

      F1 heritage. There is no car out there like Lotus. Forget about Porsche. It's for granny's and no fun to drive. With this car you smile until the tank is empty. You don't get that feeling with Porsche and I drove them both a lot. It's a boutique car while a Porsche is a mass produced car.

      The anodised aluminium chassis Lotus use on all of their cars is really expensive. But they are also low volume, hand built cars and that is never cheap.
      Anyway the Lotus is much more visceral than any Porsche. The gt3 is very heavy and doesn't have the feel or response the Lotus has. It's also FAR more expensive to maintain. Not exactly rare either and doesn't look all that interesting.

      It's not that hard to find the answer even for stupid people.

    • @BlatentlyFakeName

      The old ones also had no airbags or much else in the way of safety equipment and relied on the chassis to take the impact (which it can, but the EU and US regulators still insist on safety stuff now). That stuff is pretty heavy. Most didn't have aircon either and that's about 60kg worth of equipment.

  • @SL9SH

    What an overpriced thing,These specs are very shitty in today’s standards, a ZR1 which can do 0-60 in 2.85s will eat this shoe for breakfast in every possible scenario, you’ll still be left with plenty of money to spend, feel good with having the sound of thunder from a big V8, and you’ll save the embarrassment of being seen in a hairdresser’s car with a wing, I only came here because the spec of this thing was appealing but after I saw the price tag I laughed so hard.
