- Lotus has finally managed to cram the strongest version of its 3,5 litre supercharged V6 into the Exige. The resulting Exige Cup 430 is the fastest street-legal car the British manufacturer has ever made. It combines 430 hp and 325 lbft with a kerb weight of only 1056 kilograms. Zero to 100 km/h is dealt with in 3,3 seconds and after that the Exige Cup 430 pushes on to a top speed of 290 km/h. Is all that power controllable? Autovisie editor Dries van den Elzen finds out on the Lotus test track.

Raw, manual, super light, crazy fast. One day.
One day indeed
You're a competent driver, most reviewers don't know what they are doing especially when dealing with manual transmissions.
Man that looks crazy fast!
I like how the presenter was talking about how slippery it was out there, but he looked like he was gunning it anyway!
Mad respect!
That Toyota V6 sounds pretty badass
@デの 3N its already there in is350 without supercharger
Thanks for the vid. After driving a 350 Sport, I have been hooked on the Exige. I can’t imagine how a Cup 430 feels! The want is strong!
What a brave man, talking while pushing flat out 🙏🏾
This car, and a GT3, would make the perfect pair in a garage.
enten Oh wow. That would be something amazingly fun.
For me it would have to be an M2 Competition and an Exige, that is if we aren’t talking stupid money
@@wolffayz8464 I know someone with this exact combo (and a m 550d and 1 serie convertible) but I can comfirm that this indeed is a reallllyyyy good combo
@@lil_woody_420 would love to make friends with that guy haha
@@wolffayz8464 yeah crazy! He was even kind enough to take me on a full on lotus tour with 50 other lotus cars trough the country roads of the netherlands. One of the best experiences of my life.
This car looks the real deal '
A real drivers car '
Raw racing
Great review, thanks. Lotus are at their best when cars are giant killers in performance and handling.
Since it was announced I’ve become fascinated by this car!!
Me too, I own a very nice Evo IX running 500bhp and I keep thinking should I sell and but a Lotus Exige 430.
Do it :D
Maybe not a 430 yet though. A 350 for around 30k is probably not going to lose any value now. They are still really quick and you can tune them pretty easily. The biggest difference really with the 430 is much more downforce (and you need the extra power to overcome it). The 350 still gets to 60 in under 4 seconds.
I love the fact that Lotus uses a proper manual transmission instead of using flappy paddles, for much more driver fun and engagement.
Driver involvement is much more satisfying to me than outright lap times.
That bare shifter is a work of automotive art.
Amazing car!! Design & performance....much better than other supercar
This is one of my favorite driving videos... come back to watch it again from time to time. 👏
Mint review, subscribed and Lotus this is the first car since the Elise that has me thinking, WOW!
Great review, thanks a lot!
Thanks for the ride!😎
Great review and great driving!!!
Great review really enjoyed it! and love the 430! give me one
great video and driving!.. much love from uk
The sound is insane!
Very nice review and drive.
Love the car
Great driving - as usual...
Really excellent video. Well done and thanks :-)
it made my earphone and my brain vibrates for the first 15 seconds. now i know which car should I own
Great video
I am in love again!!!
Proper drive, especially in the wet👍👍👍
Super!
nice very well spoken in English as well keep it up
Emile, dat vind ik ook. Maar daar zijn jullie Hollanders goed in. Engels is jullie tweede moedertaal.
@@DirkHav engels is mijn tweede taal omdat ik het zoo goed kan en ik woon in belgie
Can it install sequential gear like rally car? Quick shift?
Amazing car the little Exige👍🇬🇧🏆
Love that green paint. Dude, see a Dr. I have stage 4 lung cancer and don't have a problem like you're having talking in this video. If you're smoking-STOP now. Great subject matter. Love the Exige, they're so cool.
very underrated car
290... not mph then :-) mad car, but beautiful car :-) Respect with the driving skillz in those conditions, which tyres were on??
This was a great review...but the 3-11 I believe is the fastest track car Lotus has built.
like a art
is this still a hotrodded and tuned toyota engine?
Anyone know the quarter mile in one of these ?
Is that Empire green?
RIP Exige 🥲
does the windshield wiper need to stay in the middle?
Nope!
It's a lot more bad ass with the wiper in the middle. Looks like a Le Mans car. I did the same with my Tuned Speedster turbo.
That things sounds so damn beutiful
Dude sounds like he's been blowing some serious lines. Perhaps just the sniffles
❤❤❤
Sounds mean, angry even
That's something I miss with turbo sports cars
I'd accept a much slower car as long as it's got a killer noise to it
👍
So an exige or 911 GT3?
Exige
911 gt3. Completely different class of car.... Porsche actually have motorsport heritage too.
need a new ESPRIT with V-8, 4 litres AUDI engine they using for their RS cars (560 bhp, make them up to 720BHP)
Kirill Mavrodiev yea a new esprit would be great
But it have to be in super car territory, audi r8/ hurracan performance
they were talking about doing something on that level, back in the day people thought of lotus as being on the same level as those
Kirill Mavrodiev hey lotus is now buying by Geely mother and work now together with polestar.
Naa, Audi/VW are too unreliable. Especially for a track focused car.
They are going to stick with Toyota. It was announces recently. Geely have let them do it.
Porsche who, ap racing j hooks....damn
i would do anything for this car
A smaler pulley on the supercharger with race fuel and you're at 0.5 hp/kg !!!
Hi I thought the fastest Lotus track car is the new 3 eleven?
Leigh Heaton yes, but only the track version with a sequential gearbox that is not homologated for street use...
After seeing this i think the exige should have power steering. But shall drive one before judge.
No, it doesn't. It steers perfectly with two fingers while driving. Look at Seb delannoy with his 380 Exige on the mountain roads around Monaco.
You don't need power steering on a car this light. It numbs the steering and you lose a lot of feel. Once you drive a Lotus you realise just how much feel has been lost in modern sports cars.
If anything Porsche should make their cars [a lot] lighter and remove it.
P.S. Trunk space only big enough for a 12 pack of beer.
Is 12 beers not enough?
1 problem, no muny
And yet.. Lotus lap times are always comparatively crap..? 🤔
why the fuck didnt they just make an exige 430. Whats the point of an evora 430
The problem with Lotus is their ridiculous price...
Tell me the name of a car that makes 0-61 in less than 3,5s, top speed 290kph, with only 1100kg, with this sound and as fast as this one. And the price.....
@@comomolaelmartronko true
F1 heritage. There is no car out there like Lotus. Forget about Porsche. It's for granny's and no fun to drive. With this car you smile until the tank is empty. You don't get that feeling with Porsche and I drove them both a lot. It's a boutique car while a Porsche is a mass produced car.
@@449Raphael uhhh porsche gt3 would like to have a word with you. Have you driven one? Na 4 litre 500 hp manual. Your words dont do it justice
The anodised aluminium chassis Lotus use on all of their cars is really expensive. But they are also low volume, hand built cars and that is never cheap.
Anyway the Lotus is much more visceral than any Porsche. The gt3 is very heavy and doesn't have the feel or response the Lotus has. It's also FAR more expensive to maintain. Not exactly rare either and doesn't look all that interesting.
veel te duur speelgoed
kan je verder niets mee doen
They get rid of the Toyota engine😲 they are crazy 😭😒😤
This and the evora both have the Toyota V6 from the Camry
I don't like white in middle up all the time
1056 kg? get it down to 850kg carbon fibre, carbon fibre blah blah..why's it so much heavier than the series 1& 2 then??
Cause the 1 and 2 series had 1.8L,4 cylinders engine rather than having the 3.5L,V6 engine. The bigger engine the more the HP produce, the bigger the engine, the heavier it gets.
It's not that hard to find the answer even for stupid people.
It's impressive how the exige 430 cup had less weight than exige s.87HP more and 120KG less than the exige s
The old ones also had no airbags or much else in the way of safety equipment and relied on the chassis to take the impact (which it can, but the EU and US regulators still insist on safety stuff now). That stuff is pretty heavy. Most didn't have aircon either and that's about 60kg worth of equipment.
What an overpriced thing,These specs are very shitty in today’s standards, a ZR1 which can do 0-60 in 2.85s will eat this shoe for breakfast in every possible scenario, you’ll still be left with plenty of money to spend, feel good with having the sound of thunder from a big V8, and you’ll save the embarrassment of being seen in a hairdresser’s car with a wing, I only came here because the spec of this thing was appealing but after I saw the price tag I laughed so hard. Even a Z06 is faster at half the price
The ZR1 is way more expensive and you can't even buy it outside of the US lol
The older Corvettes were pretty shit build quality. They wouldn't have sold in Europe even if they tried.
Mister Nobody valid point tough for us Americans, this doesn’t look like a good deal 😹
Hey rick, you don’t get Lotus and never will. When things get twisty the Lotus will embarrass the z06. Only in a straight line will the z06 beat the Exige, but not much skill in that. BTW so glad you don’t get it
@@BlatentlyFakeName in my country (Mexico) this Lotus and the last gen ZR1 were the same price ($150K) a Z06 was $100,000, still around $40 to $50K below the exige
@@johncarlo2630 this comment was written a year ago Carl lol, my mind changed a little as I’m a track day junkie and could well see the potential of the Lotus on a technical track, but still to pricey for me (let’s clear that I can’t either afford the Corvette or the lotus for that matter ) but if I had the money I would buy something different
